Reddit mods just can’t help themselves, can they? Between this, the r/art mod meltdown and reddits owner calling r/popular shit (it is), it feels like something’s finally about to give for Reddit.

Also how much of a no life basement dweller do you have to be to moderate 240 subs? Thats insanity. Old school forum mods could only dream of being able to abuse that much power.

The question of what to do about moderators is complicated. It's a debatably necessary job that's not really feasible to make a paid position at the scale that, say, reddit needs it.

Having them unpaid invites the unemployed and people who value other things (like power and the opportunity for ideological subversion) more than money. The unemployed is primarily the young and immature, those on disability, and neets living with their parents, all skewing towards personality disorders and mental instability.

Then you have the ideological agents. These are the same people who become "community managers," or dominate FOSS projects, or end up in HR. Postmodern communist crazies know - and have known for a hundred years - that one of the best ways to enact change is to get a position doing something tedious and thankless that very occasionally has a chance to make a serious long-term impact (like writing codes of conduct, or mission statements, etc.).

This is the basis for Conquest's Law: Any space that is not explicitly right wing will inevitably become left wing. The failure to leverage the horde of vaguely rw neets in 4chan from 2007-2017 into long-term projects like this in the way the the communists do is perhaps the greatest missed opportunity for the right wing in the 21st century.

u/TeamSupportSponsor is very upset about getting banned from discord. I wonder what got him banned?

Oh... I wonder why u/TeamSupportSponsor is concerned about underage roleplay and AI CSAM?

The biggest problem isn't so much the moderators as it is that Reddit became a dominant communication platform that is basically the default for many people to discuss things.

Because of account portability it means people have access to read, vote, discuss and moderate things that are very much disconnected from their worldview. This is technically great in theory but in reality means that because Reddit caters to "everything" that the natural, innate incompatibilities between such a wide range of discussions result in a really shit hugbox and circle jerk that is basically impossible to fix.

Facebook and some other platforms have very similar issues but are far more siloed compared to reddit.

There really isn't any way I can think of that the "everything" model of Reddit would ever work in reality - and it doesn't.

Edit: there are deeper inherent problems with the platform's model also where subreddits technically have autonomy but don't really because people can't even understand what they're "supporting" with their readership unless they occupy the same class as the jobless reddit moderator with not only the thousands of free hours required to follow detailed decision trees but also the innate autistic passion to do so.

Fascism is when you spend 24/7 publicly seething about dear leader. With 0 consequences.
Sometimes I wish there was cultural exchange program with Best Korea. So we could sent them Redditors. So they would experience how real totalitarian state looks like
Less than a month after Trump the man they claim to be Hitler declared Antifa a terrorist organization they showed up to a Berkely protest and beat the shit out of a MAGA counter protestor with essentially zero consequences. A slap on the wrist for disorderly conduct and nothing was done despite the new declaration. The idea that we live in a dictatorship or that Trump runs a "fascist" government is objectively, demonstrably, provably false. Of course lefties deep down know this which is why they go to federal facilities in Portland and directly attack a federal building knowing they won't do anything. It's all bullshit. All make believe. A fantasy to feel like Luke Skywalker or some other fictional person they look up to.

Look I'm not going to pretend I don't have a reddit account to look cool on Kiwifarms. That's ridiculous. Threads like this only work because we're posting shit we see out in the wild and making fun of it. You'd have to be some kind of a psycho to do all this and not even have a frame of reference.
I thought we all had reddit accounts with permabans, this isn't new.

I notice a common trope for redditors is to lose their shit whenever the slightest thing affects or forces the tiniest change in their usual hyperconsumerist life style.

This is magnified of course when the entity responsible, even indirectly, is republican.

What would happen however if the entity responsible is leftwing?

I'm having a bear of a time finding a comment that is anything more than just mild annoyance. Its absolutely surreal given that terminally angry Redditors aren't this forgiving about anything even on completely nonpolitical stuff.
