They probably heard something similar being said about a situation where something is presently happening with people around, and if you stand on the side and do nothing then you could be argued to be complicit in what's currently happening... But since there's technically always things happening somewhere (even if you're not there to do anything about it) and Redditors are addicted to reading news about things happening that makes them outraged, they take this mean they always need to be doing something to not be complicit, which translates to "screaming constantly about how bad and evil [current thing] is in every situation, no matter how inappropriate and impotent is it" and if you tell them to knock it off then obviously you're just someone who agrees with [current thing] and is trying to silence them to protect [current thing].

Every sub is like this now. I used to like going to the kitchen confidential subreddit since I used to work in food service. It brought back good and bad memories hearing people bitch about the industry. Now half the posts are "FUCK ICE" political bullshit with the mods smugly telling anybody who doesn't like it that they're fascist and don't belong there.

From how I remember it he was hesitant to do it and the community was wholly against it because it was Fox news (and particularly Jesse Waters) but the troon thought getting the message out was too important to turn down the opportunity.
