reddit General

Honestly? I think porn is gonna be the next thing to get axed given how advertiser friendly reddit has become, then it's going to go the way of tumblr.

There's been a lot of 'reddit is dying' fear-mongering on the site for years, but in the event they end up doing that, along with recent policy changes and the ever-looming threat of the revocation of sec. 230, we're actively watching reddit actually die this time.
Porn is great (for them). Porn keeps people docile.

Ive had a thought: You think some of the people who are leaving Reddit will head to Tumblr? As far as i know the site enforces anti porn policy but doesn’t really focus on hate speech.
No, the people from the left-leaning corporate approved boards will go to the discords for those topics. The boomers from the_donald are just going to flood 4chan and facebook, not that anyone will be able to notice.

I don't feel bad for a single one of the people who're being affected by this. The time to leave leddit was fucking literal years ago at this point and these retards helped keep that shithole alive by their stubborn refusal to pick up shop and head somewhere else.

It's the same as people who whine about Twitter censorship, but when banned are right there again with a fresh sock account. Those kinds of people are the fucking problem.

Counterpoint: it's Tumblr. You really think "hate speech" will last very long on it? We have a whole section of the farms dedicated to it, and it's mostly crazy-ass progs from what I saw last time I checked it.

I used to use a reddit account soley for posting on my local sub because I'm not on any social media and there are few avenues to discuss local politics outside of those. It seemed to be sheltered from the wider bullshit on Reddit. A year ago it had one moderater who was barely active. There were no posts about Donald Trump or any US politics shit. I'd make an account, use it for a few months, then delete the account, take a break for a month or so and repeat the process.

Last year, a contingent of users complained about the lack of moderation and the one moderator added four more moderators. First they started cracking down on joke posts and pictures of scenery and stuff like articles from rebel media.

Over the last month, the sub has gotten taken over by blm shit despite the fact that the area the sub represents is like 95% white and literally thousands of kilometres from any other city with more than 100,000 people or any significant non-white population. There have been endless news articles featuring the same rotation of a dozen or so black people talking about microagressions in the local media. The sub clearly had less than 100 active users, yet comments seemed to be getting brigaded with sometimes hundreds of upvotes and downvotes. Mods were openly posting in a leftist politics subreddit, talking about posts they were going to push on the local subreddit for upvotes. Then they put a stickey at the top of the page saying that are now recruiting MORE mods. So I deleted my latest account a week or so ago with no intention of reregistering this time.

Then I come on Kiwi Farms today and this has happend. Reddit will soon be god damn unusable. Shit about Trump and US race politics is seeping into even the smallest, most specific subs. A year ago, you'd go months without race being mentioned on the sub. Now it's being shoehorned into every conversation.

A large portion of Tumblr’s user base has left for twitter due to the porn ban... The site is a shadow of what it Once was

Hmph. It took 20 million dollars and sitting on the damn thing for 14 years, but Conde Nast is finally getting to flex their purchasing power and "shift the narrative" 4 months before the election. I'm sure it feels good, like firing that old hunting rifle that's been on the den wall for the first time in two decades. Problem is, they haven't been shooting regularly, and aren't going to hit their marks. All those right wingers are going to remember who to vote for in 4 months, all you've done is scare them into the brush.

Fair, I just think that it's still going to have the exact same problem reddit did, and that it'll just be a winding back of the doom-clock if they somehow get away with an emigration to it.

There is technically a "no hate speech" rule but Tumblr moderation is so bad that the hugboxians of the site regularly complain about the site not banning right wing users. That's partially why the porn ban was put in place in the first place - bad moderation.

Outside of the glaring and rampant child porn issue, the porn bots weren't getting flagged as NSFW and were sticking porn in relatively innocent tags. The search tag system also picked up on similar tags, so if you were looking for "precure" (which is a kids show that has an adult fandom) then you ran the chance of seeing a post showing Naked Lady Posing because it was tagged as "precum". One of the issues that occured post-porn-ban was that when they were banning specific tag searches due to porn, some of these similar unrelated non-porn tags were also banned. So, needless to say, if Tumblr cares, they aren't very diligent.

It would make for an interesting Tumblr Renaissance.

Someone needs to create a KF version of this, especially if registration comes back:

The first weekend after George Floyd croaked, a pokemon trading community I was in had a post with angry discussion from both sides. I nicely commented that this content was likely in every other corner of the user's feeds and didn't really belong in a group dedicated to exchanging digital pocket monsters, and I was permanently removed from the community & it is now hidden from me.

Learned my lesson about saying ANYTHING about niggers on any platform but the farms and just joined a different trade community quietly.

For fuck's sake. The cancer of social media has metastisized to the point where even moderated, single-topic communities are subject to discussions about completely irrelevant events. All topics must be discussed at all times, everywhere. (Unless they're deemed hate speech, of course.)
