Redfall. - I'm not angry, just...disappointed.

It could work better if it were actually more grim
The results are in, zoomers don't like grim survival horror, they want bright neon colors and constant power fantasies to make them feel le heccin cool bro.

Ideally the game would be like Dying Light. Explore during the day to gather supplies and deal with primarily human enemies, go out at night to deal with vampires and a much greater challenge.

Man, between this and Morbius, vampire fiction is not having the best of times. Unless becoming a laughingstock qualifies.
Becoming a laughingstock?
Always has been.

Jokes aside the Vampire Masquerade IP just opened up or some shit so maybe we'll get something soon
Sure. It was a fun game. What’s wrong with Dishonored 2?
I don't know. I've failed to get into it twice now although I love the first. There's something off about it.
Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime.

The problems with Redfall start from the cover art, a defeated vampire crawling away from the powerful heroes. Does real good job of making main enemies of the game look like a non-threat before the game even starts.

they had been hailing that starfield will be console exclusive for a lot of time, not a really smart move from bethesda that made skyrim, the most moddable game aside from minecraft.
I've followed Starfield for a while and I've never heard them ever say it was going to be console exclusive. I mean I believe the first reveal trailer even said it was going to be on PC as well.

It's funny, cause if you go to the website, it opens with this artwork/wallpaper (I've also seen a few news articles use it), which looks much nicer to me, if a bit generic. I'd guess they went with the other one because they wanted to show off the PCs more front and center.

Was Redfall made by the B team?
Surprisingly no. Guess they're all the B team now though.

I've beaten the game three times and have a list of gripes.
Woke lesbian bullshit aside, I feel that like Dark Souls 2, the game is only a shit game when compared to its predecessor. It doesn't really do anything wrong but it does do things worse.

The most immediately apparent example would be the level design. Not every level in Dishonored 1 followed the model of wide open exterior district area with a large interior containing the target but basically every Dishonored 2 level was that with the exception of the first area which was entirely exterior followed by Addermire which was interior. Mind you, I consider Addermire to be the best area in the game. I guess the dust district feeding into Stilton manor was kind of the same thing but the only thing that's separating the two is a locked door.

While this is just my opinion, the decision to return to Dunwall tower for the final mission was a mistake. Dunwall tower in the first game was the shittiest map and its somehow worse here. Reusing maps is bad when there are only a half dozen. It wasn't ok with the high overseer and golden cat and its even worse with Dunwall tower.

The big gimmick clockwork mansion map that got plastered all over promotional material was shit too. Nothing fancy, just floors that went up and down. Completely brain dead.

The objective markers are on by default. There were either no objective markers in the first or they were off by default. The whole point is to track down your target, not be pointed to it. Someone at Arkane needed hand holding and it showed.

The pacing of upgrades was completely retarded. You could get both weapon masterwork blueprints in the royal observatory mission but almost every other masterwork was locked until the final mission where you couldn't really take advantage of them. I feel like Dishonored 1 solved this by granting you all blueprints before the flooded district and giving you time to play with your toys.

Finally, reusing Delilah was a mistake. None of the other antagonists feel fleshed out. There isn't anything new terms of adversaries that we didn't see in the first; the only new enemy type is the clockwork soldiers I think.

I don't think that's exactly going to pinpoint what's off about the game but every time I play it, I'm reminded of how much worse it is then the first.

Hold up I know the thread is about Redfall, but Prey 2017 is mediocre at best for a few hours and then becomes exceedingly boring after you realize all the enemies are black goo, I have tried to get through that game three times and every single time I get to Hydroponics and stop caring.

In my opinion Arcane has rarely been able to find a good gameplay loop to really focus on, they made one game with decent combat and that was like 20 years ago, I have no idea why they went this route with Redfall when it seems to be a game focused on what they are weakest at.
Prey didn't have great enemy variety but it scratched that itch of being thrown into a cool retro future environment and exploring every nook ala Bioshock perfectly.

It was also impressive the way you could explore every square inch of the station and even float around the outside, it felt very carefully crafted and more like a real place than more typical game environments.

It's a real fucking shame Arkane Austin would decline so hard, but not surprising given the sorry state of everything right now.

The game is going for the "YASSSSS KWEEN SLAAAAAAAAAAAAY" audience for whom "entertainment" exists as nothing more than something to stroke their own egos, being scared, challenged or made to think is alien to them.

System Shock II is one of my favorite games of all time, one that I can replay endlessly, but I couldn't get through Prey. Found it really sterile. I've tried it twice and each time got bored sometime in the middle. The mimic gimmick grew old after a hour, enemies were boring, and none of the gameplay mechanics really grabbed me. The only thing it had going for it for me was SS nostalgia of exploring a space station... but even that grew boring because I found the environments really bland.

Loved Dishonored but still haven't touched the sequel. Don't know why. I bought it on GOG a year or so back during a sale.

Actually, no. Most Zoomers that I've come across aren't really playing the power fantasy games. A lot of them are actually playing older games. Old school Halo, Fallout: New Vegas, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate 1&2, etc. There is a craze right now with Zoomers with retro and old school gaming. I think Zoomers are looking for games that have good gameplay, decent story, good world building, are cheap and writing that isn't written by a jaded millennial.

A lot of people I've talked about Prey with shared the same sentiment. I think the great filter is either the part after psychotronics where the game forces you to go through GUTS, or the forced lockout bit where the game forces you into deep storage. The mimic shtick should have been expanded on, maybe introducing a couple larger mimics, say the size of a desk or doorway, used sparingly, that weren't picked up by mimic detection, with an AI package to not jump you immediately. The game really only has one jump scare and could've used a few more. Could have also made it so there were more areas with disabled power and introduced some darkness mechanics.

If you like Dishonored, you owe it to yourself to play the second, just to see how much worse it is.

Yes, they have explicitly said it's going to be on PC. It is going to be a console exclusive but that guy doesn't know what that means. It means it'll be exclusive to one platform on console only.

I love how this thread quickly shifted away from discussing Redfall to discussing other, better games from Arkane.

Redfall isn't just bad, its also forgettable and unintersting. At least with Andromeda people could talk about how much they hate it for pages and pages and pages. Redfall didn't even keep our interest for 10 pages.
