Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

Honestly I do wonder at the feasibility of literally setting up a alternative to the internet for spergs when I see this sort of thing. Real sad times if Kiwifarms gets nuked; found it late but it's honestly an amazing site where I don't have to worry about some uptight cunt sperging at me because I said gamer words. Internet slowly sinking into the firepit.
If 230 gets done in, the possibility for revenge gets real. Every single Twitter hate mob opens Twitter itself to lawsuits, which will at that point not be lolsuits. Twitter will have to feel the pain. Twitter will have to defend every one. Or kick off the blue checkmarks.

Yeah, but honestly I'd rather it just not get repealed. I get the idea of dunking on twitter faggots being fun, but it's going to be a short lived fun because after the immediate spasming of lawsuits and nukings are over; we're going to end up with a very sterile, corporate, internet. Everything is going to end up being safe, milquetoast, and bland. The internet was never a real 'wild west'; but it was better than what we're going to end up with. Just kinda depressing NGL.

From my very preliminary research into setting up a 'counter web' sort of thing it just seems like a losing prospect; and something that you can't really do without bowing to the big tech oligarchs. Sad times.

I do not believe its gonna be that good. No matter what anybody is gonna tell me I still think Twatter cannot be moved. My most degenerate/spergy desire was always obliteration of this site. The only good thing about is is hentai imho.

Dammit. I hope this fizzles out! I love being able to come here and poke fun at autistic cows like Lucas Werner and Russell Greer. If those speds don't like being made fun of they can quit making an ass of themselves regularly on the Internet. But, oh, no! Can't do that!

This site makes me feel better about myself. At least I am not one of these cows on here. Huge blow if this goes down.

I don't understand the sudden fuss. I get that Trump tweeted something, but the timescale isn't realistic, they would rather simply hold the bill until Trump is out of office. It's been on the house desk for months (since August, when that senate vote was actually held).
In practice, this just means that he will... which is the only bill on the table. If there was full repeal in play, it would not pass Republican senate muster, according to the Republican senate themselves. If Trump tried to force it, they'd just wait a few months or shoot for simple majority, which could mean no changes to 230 at-all.
Further, there isn't a single mention of USMCA in this entire thread, which to my understanding (and most business news sites afaik) reiterated and expanded protections that are normally granted by 230, codifying them into law in two places. The stricter restriction on government & legal power is always the one that takes effect, or at least that's my understanding, but some of the wording does seem speculative, so you'd have to show that the court case was somehow "adopting or maintaining a measure to treat a supplier as liable for harm." That doesn't seem that different from 230 to me.

@Null
Have your law guys said anything about the viability of cases under USMCA protections instead of section 230? Does it work how it seems to work? I could be entirely off-base here, but even if it isn't protective, it seems like a huge mitigating factor to any attempt to get 230 repealed entirely, since it would severely undermine the US' ability to negotiate trade.

What what the Farms need to change in order to be more "safe"? I have a few cows that I follow but I primarily come here for the wide variety of chit chat and freedom of speech. I like y'all and have enjoyed my time here.

In the event we do close, can we get one last merch run?

Nothing, without Section 230 the forum is just dead. 2 people (Russell Greer and Melinda Scott) are already trying to sue the website for damages even with the site being protected by Section 230, without it you can very well expect that number to be multiplied at least ten-fold.

Well, it doesn't help that the people we feature are too dense to notice that they're the problem by airing their dirty laundry on the web.

@Null going ghost?! You've looked like a ghost all your life. Your crippling depression comes from having done nothing but chase after the clout of autism and schizophrenia under the guise of free speech simping. What's the removal of 230 but your day of reckoning? That terrible realization that you've spent Twenty Eight Years doing nothing but shitting yourself on an obscure forum. Some notoriety you've got there, you useless shit-spigot.
I'm not even depressed. 2020 has been a great year for me.

When this turns out to be a nothingburger, I gleefully await getting to watch you backpedal so fast you go uphill.
I'm continuing as if this is not happening because it might not. I'd give it a 7/10 chance when I wrote it, but since the Senate passed the NDAA with an overwhelming majority it looks like the veto off the table. I'm still giving it a 50/50 chance now because a lot can change in 2 months and it looks like this is Trump's last wish.

This is a serious issue. There are very important people who have stakes in this law. They are doing things to progress their ambitions. This is the reality of the situation and these are my plans. I don't have to backpedal anything.

We got to prepare where to meet, how, without kiwifarms.

We meet in the men's bathroom of the abandoned McDonald's in Post, Texas. Just knock on the door and someone will ask you who it is. Say "Teenus". You will then be asked what kind of watch you have. Say it's a Citizen Watch, from Ross. The door will open. Come prepared to leave your old life behind.
