Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

He's going to veto it. The question is do they have the 2/3rd majority to overrule it?
I think so. Call me optimistic but I don't see why they'd buck his power play without a veto-proof majority. I don't think Cocaine Mitch is fucking around. He really doesn't have any leverage here. They can always kick the can with a continuing resolution anyway.

To anyone saying that since the Congress is ignoring Trump so that its fine:
Anti-230 attitudes are already in Congress: nobody said "that's fucking insane" they just said "it's not appropriate in this bill."
For instance, I have in front of me a full-page advertisement from Facebook, saying
We support updated [internet] regulations that will address today's challenges and hold companies, including Facebook, accountable on issues, including
* Combating foreign election interference
* Protecting peoples privacy and data
* Enabling safe and easy data portability between platforms
I 100% expect a significant neutering of 230 to accompany any internet regulation bill that addresses the things the big guys want. This advertisement, by the way, was in The National Review, a republican/conservative magazine. You think Facebook left-leaning or whatever? They're playing to both sides to secure themselves power over others. Don't expect the attitude to go away, and expect more people to support it in the next administration by the sheer fact that a Democrat will be supporting it. Also, to those wanting to own "big tech", getting rid of 230 to own Twitter is like getting rid of the Free Press Clause to own the New York Times. It's less of a nuke and more of deliberately activating Yellowstone by way of gigantic meteor impact.

The Nixon speech Null referenced wasn't written when the situation for the lunar astronauts was bleak: it was written days before launch. Apollo 11 was humanity's great tightrope walk into the great unknown: just because we passed one test doesn't mean something could fuck up and nearly destroy everything we worked for. For any spaceflight success is the perfect storm, while failure and death is whats probable, so you always have to be on your toes and expect the worst. When you don't take the odds stacked against you into account, you get fucked, and we don't even have the benefit of thousands of experts, millions in funding, favorable public opinion, and the laws of physics.

If he tries to veto and gets cucked by the lame duck that will be the most humiliating footnote for his presidency. They might as well pass an official statement saying he has a small dick and ate shit off the bathroom floor at the McDonalds in Breezewood, Pennsylvania.

Still reading through this thread, but I will miss this place and selfishly i hope it does not close though I understand if so. This place was great at the beginning of covid, I feel like i learned so much, especially about doomsday prepping. Also with all the riots this year, this was like one of the only places with true documentation.

The worst part to me is people will be held less accountable. e.g. googling Katelyn Burns or ALR or whatever, you won't be able to find criticism. Oh well.

Also i laughed a LOT here. Thanks all, esp null

God fucking damnit. Wish I hadn't lurked for so long and actually bothered to make an account on here sooner. I think the worst part about all of this is that if this really means the site goes defunct it'll be for the most boring reason possible; senile politicians not fully understanding the ramifications of fucking with laws regarding online communication.
It would be a dreadful shame for KF to go out with a whimper. I'm not saying Null should go shoot up a Kiwi mosque, but it would be nice if the last day on here was one to remember in some way.

I havent been on this site for long and havent posted much at all, but this still makes me depressed. Earth is a shit.

Good. Obama negotiated with Iran without the teeth of a real threat, and we ended up with his Iran deal sending them pallets of euros. If people believe that Trump will actually go through with nuking 230, that gives me hope that a useful deal can be negotiated. If people aren't fearful, then they won't come to the table.

Anyone know believes the following is retarded:
  • The government..
    • actually wants to help.
    • legislating anything about the internet will help it.
    • will repeal section 230 without replacing it with something.
    • will allow the massive data collection to stop because 'muh censorship'.
    • will do anything that harms large corporations while helping the little guy.
  • Trump..
    • is doing 4d chess.
    • actually understands how the internet works.
    • knows there's more to the internet than Facebook and Twitter.
    • isn't a retard who struck gold by being pitted against the worst democrat candidate ever.

If it does come to pass, well it was fun being a unwashed degenerate with you guys.

Best three years of my life!

Shit, if 230 gets the axe and the Farms go defunct, I think we all need to reconsider Chris's power and the consequences of the dimensional merge.

Real deal, we've for a longass time been in the declining days of the internet. Even if 230 somehow survives, it's worth remembering that we're still basically in twilight - so don't go getting bold. Love thy fellow Kiwi, unless they're a fucking annoying faggot
