I gotta finish Claire A this weekend. At last save I got stuck on the plant puzzle before an Ivy ate my head.

I have not played a horror game this effectively scary in a long time. It's also made me feel like a total pleb because everyone who owns it has already screencapped their Hardcore Mode S+ Rank results. Meanwhile I'm still hanging on the first scenario and have performed below substandard lousy doing Standard. REMake 2 surprised me because I was expecting to breeze through it the way I A-ranked the original a billion times over the past 20 years.

I know this is a stupid question but the game worth the money? I've adamantly refused to look at any playthroughs because I want to go into the game in the same way people did with the original. From the preview images I've allowed myself to see I'm getting a combination of REmake/RE7 and RE2 vibes which is good imo but I'd like to get some opinions or comments from people who aren't leaving reviews on steam or are game journos.

I think this game is well worth $40+ for the first two playthroughs of Claire and Leon alone, and after that you get access to fourth survivor and 5 different Tofu characters. It's the lack of a true B scenario like the original game that can likely burn you out, since the cutscenes, events and boss battles are no different between both A/B runs. The only major differences are how you start, item placements and stuff like that. There's also a hardcore mode that brings back ink ribbons, makes enemies more lethal and limits resources, so there's still a lot here for replay value. (That's on top of free DLC coming on 15th.)

This game is kind of bullshit with its DLC, but the only one I can recommend is the $3 classic soundtrack/sound effects because the music in this game is kind of lacking. You can skip everything else, although the Elza one is pretty neat. Modders have a lot of free custom reskins and models out right now, so you don't need to pay anything anyway.

This depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for something much like the remake of the first game which was essentially the first game but with better graphics and only two major changes then you may be disappointed. If you're looking for something that is very familiar but yet feels very different at the same time then you should pick it up.

I've played and owned all the Resident Evil games including the more obscure titles such as Gaiden (apart from Survivor 2 and Dead Aim) and although I haven't finished it yet (only got round to playing the remake of 2 yesterday) it's the most frightening Resident Evil of the lot. Personally I prefer the original version of 2 whether that's due to nostalgia or whatever (but in my defense I don't hold the original version of 2 as close to my heart as everyone else since I got into the series when 4 was released on the PS2, if I had to make a list of Resident Evil games from best to worse the original version of 2 would be number 5 or 6 on my list) but this game does a lot of things right and some things much better than in the original game. For example, in the original version of 2 during the A scenarios you saw the licker pretty much as soon as you enter the police station. In the remake it builds it up to you seeing the licker, you know it's coming but you just don't know when. It makes all the right changes and I am loving it so far. Don't let the over the shoulder angle and being able to move whilst shooting bother you either, it's still very much survival horror. In fact, I'm actually finding the remake of Resident Evil 2 harder than the original version. Enemies take a ton of bullets to go down and the gore is just beautiful.

The only major problem I have so far with the remake of 2 is the voice acting which is kind of a stupid problem to have with a series that is known for having bad voice acting but whilst in the original games the voice acting was so bad it's good, in the remake it's just so bad it's bad. It doesn't ruin the experience too much but a lot of the voice actors sound like they were receiving the most unenthusiastic hand job ever whilst recording their lines.

I'd pretty much already decided if I was going to get the game the only DLC I was going to buy because the RPD Entrance Hall theme is my jam. Thanks for your input!

Right. Thankfully I have the advantage of having not played the original RE2 when it came out so nostalgia isn't going to be an issue. I was hoping to approach it in the same way I did with the REmake, which turned out to be a very smart move because holy hell that game is scary, and I ended up having a really good time with it. Considering your comment I reckon I'll probably enjoy the RE2 remake too. Thanks for responding!

Huh, there's an animation for when an enemy grabs you just as they're decapitated. The body latches on, and your character does this great little "Yeuch" and shakes them off.

There is a glitch with two Mr. X and the best thing about it is that it's canon. Yes, it's a glitch and Leon/Claire only had to fight one Mr. X but 6 of them where in Racoon City.

*X-Gon Give it to Ya gets louder*

I polished off all the achievements last night, feels good. Probably gonna do another playthrough and all the free DLC on the 15th. Easily GOTY for me, super worth the money. Why can we not get good or enjoyable games like this on a consistent basis any more *sigh*

Based on what I have seen and managed to accomplish thus far, yes, it is definitely worth it.

First and foremost, it's terrifying, unnerving, and stress-inducing. If you're looking for casual cool down after a rough time, then it's counterproductive in that regard, but as something classified in the 'horror' genre it does all that stuff right. A large part of the game is spent navigating through dark places with minimal lighting with scary, dangerous shit hidden in the shadows. Creatures make lots of noise but you can never really tell how far they are from you. You've got very limited ammo and health supplies. Every encounter is a decision to fight or flee.

About halfway through the police station Mr. X shows up. He now stalks you in real-time throughout the map instead of being limited to scripted encounters. Let me tell you, having your flashlight beam suddenly highlight his goddamned face is the most cringe-inducing thing since the earlier, better Silent Hill games.

One of this game's biggest triumphs is making zombies scary again. Zombies are such overplayed cannon fodder at this point that this is significant. They cramp bendy corridors and they are unpredictable, RNG-induced sons of bitches. Their HP is also randomized so your bullets will either make quick work of them or they might be bullet sponges. You also can't stomp their heads anymore. That just gets you bit.

The game expands on characters and smaller threads from the original story. Marvin gets some more screen time instead of just bleeding out on the floor. Remember Chief Irons, his couple of scenes and the incriminating diaries he left around? He is now a creepy, Chester the Molester motherfucker. The bit where you play Sherry is spent hiding from his serial rapist fat ass instead of building a bridge.

It's also very, very pretty. So pretty it taxes the shit out of your PS4 and makes the fans whir like sawblades.

Now, does REmake 2 make a good substitute or replacement for the original game? No. You want both around. For all the good this game is, there are parts they were lazy on. The trip to the police station is much shorter, literally a big circle around some zombies and stalled traffic. They do make you play through the gas station instead of watching it though, so maybe that makes up for it. Leon and Claire barley see each other at all during the scenario.

I've also heard that the A/B scenarios aren't much different from each other. That in fact the developers downright slacked off some places like Annette dying twice. You can no longer leave supplies for the other character to collect. You just grab whatever you want and they get their own stuff.

Your mileage may vary on that, but TLDR; get the thing. Actually, spend ten extra bucks to get the Deluxe Edition because the DLC bonuses are very nice.

Okay this was the comment I was seriously hoping to get from my question - because any game that does this instantly wins my money. You wouldn't believe how far my heart sank when I entered the first corridor after the beginning cutscene from the REmake and heard the clumsy footfalls of zombies lurching towards me from offscreen. That was when I knew I'd made the right choice buying it because up until then there was only one game I had that made zombies feel threatening again (and if you wish to know that game was Project Zomboid).

>Chief Irons being remade into a potential child rapist.

Honestly surprised they didn't make him that in the original considering how avant-garde the original trilogy was for its time.

If I remember correctly (it's been at least 2 years since I last played the original version of Resident Evil 2) wasn't there a file in the original game that accused him of being a rapist?

I remember that, but it didn't say he was into raping children. Adult women, if I remember right, but not kids.

I'm cumming to the realization RE3 (:optimistic: Code Veronica to be remade too) is going to be remade. And hopefully Dino Crisis later on.

Square enix should take notes, plop Final Faggotry and Queefdom Farts into the dumpster and work on Parasite Eve 1 and 2. And completely start over on PE3 and make it good.

I meant adult women, I was just pointing out that he was already a rapist in the RE lore regardless of the remake.

Speaking of which, I really enjoyed how the remake treated him. I much prefer the remake's imagining of Chief Irons and my favorite part of the game so far (I finished Claire A and I'm about an hour or so into Leon B) is playing as Sherry and trying not to get caught by him.

Resident Evil 3 is my favorite out of the original trilogy. Considering how I'm constantly shitting myself over hearing Mr. X's footsteps throughout 2's remake, I can't wait for them to remake 3.

yea, 3 was my favorite. It had more desperation of wanting to escape the city. It's gonna look great af. Code Veronica would be welcomed with open arms because it's horror was a bit different. The twins made it freaky and being stuck on a island made it even creepier.

I finished the PSX Version (Dualshock) yesterday to prepare for the remake and i have a couple of questions before i start the remake

1) Is the special key still there? and the way to obtain it is the same?

2) The mods to the weapons (in the case of Leon) are still there? and if they are there can i cheese again using the Remington/Desert Eagle?

3) Is true that now the knife is not useless?

4) How different is the structure of the police station compared to the original?

5) Does Mr X appear only in B (i only finished Claire A/Leon B and only saw him in Leon B) or he appears in every scenario?

6) He appears constantly? or only in certain places?

Wait there was 5 more of those things? i remember a lot of capsules in the helicopter that drop him and i thought one of them was Nemesis

Alfred Ashford is a really underrated character in my opinion, I even prefer him over Albert Wesker. I don't think they'll remake Code Veronica though since they recently-ish brought out a remaster of the version released on PS2 so they'll probably want to milk the shit out of the remaster for as long as they can.

I still have to complete the game (I'm probably will do tonight) but to answer most of what you asked:

2. There are still weapon mods.

3. The knife is used similar to how defense weapons are used in the remake of the first game. You can also use the knife as you would normally in other Resident Evil games but there is a durability meter before it breaks and you have to find another one.

4. The structure is similar to how it is on the original game.

5. Mr. X appears in A and B scenarios.

6. He is constantly following you. You can tell where he is (e.g. if he's near you or in the floor above you) by listening for his footsteps. He'll stop following you for a small bit if you gun him down but this doesn't kill him and he'll resume following you pretty quickly after.
