Which is annoying how people thinks a villian that isn't sympathetic or have sympathetic goals automatically makes them one-dimensional.
Sometimes there's just something broken in people that you can't explain and have nothing else going for them.

Generally, though, those kinds of characters tend to be evil children with no explicable reason for their behavior. Rarely do you get one where an adult is just a dick that wants to be the biggest dick alive.

About damn time somebody tried their hand in making mechanical body horror nowadays. Tetsuo is THE stuff to look for inspiration on if you want body horror with a machine twist.

Hell, I'll say it now, Heisenberg should have been the main antagonist, and we shoulda fought more of his fucked up creations. I want more cyber zombies and weird mechanical shit please!
I think it'd be cool if we get DLC where random people encounter each of the 4 lords (or at least 3 of them) sort of like 7's side story DLC with the Bakers.

I'd especially like to see more of Donna, Lady D and Heisenberg, Heisenberg is especially such a cool dude.

Generally short length doesn't really bother me but RE8 does leave you wanting more, although that's a good sign if a game is good enough that you wish there was more it.

I think DLC for Village will probably be about Chris and the BSAA.

You can also do that and you can also have side stories, much like RE7 did.

My money is on Ada Wong and the plague doctor concept. In the credits you see a story of a plague doctor giving a shot to a dying girl to cure her, then later the father gets a shot but turns into a werewolf.
Yeah, what was up with those images? Very mysterious and intriguing.

If we want to get into the lore and what the implications from 8 are I was disappointed what the connection between Umbrella and the village turned out to be, but they seem to be implying there's some greater history behind that logo even beyond the village, I wonder what the deal is?

8 also seems to imply that the distant history of RE's world is very different than the real world, the word I would use is it's almost "Tolkenesque".

My money is on ancient aliens regarding the Umbrella Logo. Kidding, it's probably some templar level shit. The script about the black god - as far as the Japanese version goes - probably has some people who worshipped entities like these or tried to contain them. It'd be interesting if the logo wasn't an umbrella but a shield and that the first order were people trying to control the creature from spreading. Possibly even longer than we could imagine, maybe they salted the Earth creating the Sahara desert to destroy such entities. There's a lot of questionable shit humanity did that could be excused by this order trying to contain an outbreak.

My hope is that they do a spinoff game starring Duke.

It'd be a business management sim, where you set up trade routes between monster-infested villages, buying and selling Resident Evil items. Your longterm goal is to track down rare, exotic food items, so you can make rare, exotic meals for yourself, and get super fat by mukbanging that shit. The better your business, the more food you can afford, and the fatter you become.

Maybe certain settlements would be locked out at the start of the game? They're populated by monsters who are meaner than average. But your BMI acts as a Good Boy system; once you get fat enough, the monsters will see how rollypolly and bon-vivant you are, and they'll be all like, "yo, this dude's cool as fuck. Let's let him in our village!" And then that's why monsters never try to eat Duke. They like him so much, 'cuz they're not fucking retards.

Yeah, not everyone has to have a dying daughter. Some people are motivated by their obsessions, or greed, or fear of dying, desires to be a part of something bigger etc. And some people are just broken sociopaths who lack empathy. Basically, villains being unsympathetic doesn't make them less realistic or interesting.

I'd like this too, but apparently they already said there won't be any DLC because Village is "a complete game." Considering how popular the four lords are, you'd think content involving them in particular would be easy money on Capcom's part.

Granted, anything could happen, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Well, my favorite vidya villain of all time was Handsome Jack, and HE had a dying daughter. She was dying because Jack basically killed her, turning her into a quasi-vegetative, psychic server-farm that Jack could use to take over the entire Space Internet, allowing him to conquer the galaxy and get revenge on all the coworkers he hated.

Jack was a very sympathetic villain. Until he wasn't.

I did feel bad for D's dead daughters (because they were hot), and I thought the thots were compelling villains on their own merits (because they were hot), but D herself didn't do it for me villain-wise. Nor did I get any sympathetic vibes from her at all; she got pissed when her daughters died (and who can blame her? They were hot), but D's dead daughter dialogue made me think that she wasn't so much sad about their murders, as she was mad at them for being useless scrubs who couldn't even kill one boomer dad.

Idk I think a ten hour game kinda needs story DLC to pad it out. Plus its le current year so I don't believe for a second they won't try eventually to sell boosters and skins or some other bullshit for mercenary mode.

That's a good take, I'm definitely getting the impression the Umbrella emblem is of some much older secret society, ala the knights templar, I also think the dark god could be just the first of a whole bunch of equivalents to Lovecraftian old ones, hell Moreau was already straight out of Lovecraft.

I think in RE's world's distant past there was a whole slew of civilizations that got wiped out by some biological threat.

Laugh and grow fat!

I can't fault them too much for that as one of my complaints about RE7 was the main game was not complete, you had to play the DLC to get the full story, which isn't how a RE game should work.

But since RE8 tells a full story on it's own, there'd be no harm in a few side stories a small continuation down the line to tide us over while we wait for RE9.

There's pretty clearly a lot of potential left for Castle Dimitrescu and even House Beneviento since we didn't get to see every room, I also feel the backstory for House Beneviento was a little too vague, still plenty of room to explore that I feel.

In particular for Castle Dimitrescu I was disappointed we didn't get to see what was inside the main tower, this area.

In fact that seems like a pretty big omission to me, we didn't get to see the bell tower either.

That would actually make for a decent mobile side app for Resident Evil games where you can unlock shit in the game depending on how well you do in business or by buying unique items through transaction questlines.

Just as an aside, I don't recommend using a GameCube controller if you're playing the Switch version of RE4. Reason being the quicktime events use the second pair of shoulder buttons and the GameCube controller is one shoulder button short, meaning you literally cannot do those specific quicktime events. Shame too because it works damn near perfectly otherwise.

Adachi from persona 4 is a good example of that.

I’m just hoping they’ll give us ACTUAL dlc akin to end of Zoe or not a hero.

One thing I noticed I haven't seen people talk too much about is how so many of the games monster sync up with the Universal Monsters.

You have vampires, wolfmen, an aquatic monster and a Frankenstein esque dude, very much like Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein and the Creature From The Black Lagoon.

All that's missing is a mummy and the song Monster Mash.

You could say Ethan did the monster mash, he did the monster mash!
