While the engine may have been originally created for RE3 I highly doubt there was any version of a Resident Evil game that had dinosaurs

Hmm, I do vaguely memba one of those crappy licensed RE Novels apparently featuring zombie dinosaurs and I think atleast some of those novels were made using early production notes of various games and ideas that were being kicked around by the RE team, so maybe it was an early concept that never made it past a few scribbles on a notepad

Honestly if I were in Capcom head office I would use the remake series as a springboard for the most ambitious of projects

Resident Evil 4.....the prototype version

Literally go full alternate-continuity and start a new series based on what was originally planned for RE4, which appeared to be a mix of old school resident evil and certain elements of both the release build of RE4 and RE5.

Keep it focused on Umbrella, maybe alter the wesker plotline to have him killed off early before he goes memetically cringy and he randomly becomes this ultra powerful clone god instead, and finally, perhaps most importantly of all....

This is exactly what I want them to do.

I was complaining about Nemesis' nose earlier but then I realized he has a nose in the original game it was just a little bit more subtle. The later versions of him had none.

I still hope we can shoot it off tho.

After two days of inebriated mania and disappointment over a certain sci fi franchise shitting itself to death, this actually snapped me out of my malaise and got me cheerful and optimistic again instead of just cynically cackling at how shit every piece of media is

I don't know why you niggers want them to reboot this series or go full alternate continuity. I have fairly negative feelings towards 5 and 6 (but I absolutely disagree with people who claim 4 ruined the story, how in the absolute fuck would Umbrella not be dissolved when the United States has to nuke a city due to their actions; besides, 5 returned to the Wesker plot and it sucked dick), but the thing I like about the Resident Evil games is that they at least have a consistent timeline. I'm sick of constant fucking rebooting. Soft rebooting the series with 7 but nonetheless keeping it in the timeline was the absolutely perfect way to go, why do you want them to change it?

While I like some of the games post Code Veronica I do think it would be best for Capcom to treat all the remakes as a new continuity and start clean after a potential Code Veronica remake, leave all the crap in 5 and 6 behind.

I honestly dont think they can do that. Especially since it would discard 7 and it would bring Wesker back (since Im one of the people that think that bringing him back even in an alternative continuity would ruin him further).

All the game are canon to some degree. Each new game is bolted onto the lore in an attempt to keep up the appearance of continuity, but there's no kind of long term plan. One example is how the Steve storyline was completely abandoned after Code Veronica despite laying down sequel hooks in Code Veronica X. (I've not played Code Veronica in years, but I think it was mentioned that Wesker had Steve locked up somewhere or something? I always assumed he died in CV, but X changed that in a file?)

I think CVX isnt canon, or at least not "more" than the original so Steve is still dead (in Darkside Chronicles, a good enough Wii game, he still dies so I think thats truly the canon outcome).

Im with ya on this. Besides, Im one of the few people that enjoyed 5's plot alright, its 6 that I think really dropped the ball, its all over the place! I think one of 6's biggest sins was to tease Chris's retirement but not going through it. Im sorry but people need to accept that these characters arent supernatural, they are suppose to be still mortal humans at the end of the day. If we do the math, Chris was born in 73, meaning that if any further appearances from him happen in the current year, he would be around his 50's. If Resident Evil is to keep going in this continuity, they seriously need to add new blood cast in the mix to "take the torch" and 6 seemed to be going at the right direction but nope, the status quo needed to be preserved...now Chris is back in 7 looking unnaturally young and less ripped somehow (I ASSUME the in universe reason is that he doesnt workout as intense as before since Wesker is dead and he cant push his body as much as he could in his earlier years).

RE 6 seemed to hint at some sort of Illuminati or The Patriots type villains that control the world or something? Simmons was part of them? I dont know, its been a while since I played that trashfire and given how 7 seems to be going off a different direction, I doubt we will see them again (Capcom really prefers to pretend 6 didnt happen at this point, it seems). 6 almost made Leon not as cool to me anymore. Re 2 and 4 Leon will always be my favorite versions for different reasons, 2 because it showe Leon as this less experienced but still naturally talented good man and 4 for just having him evolved into this competent cracking wise bad ass but still caring when it makes sense, I cant describe RE 6 Leon even if my life depends on it.

I think when most people claim that RE4 ruined the story of the series, it isn't because Umbrella fell, but how it was handled. It was entirely off-screen and amounted to a mere opening cutscene featuring recycled cutscene footage from RE2 and RE3.

Before this, RE2 and RE3 were both hinting at a grand finale showdown with Umbrella involving most of the major heroes, with Survivor and Code Veronica meant as the opening acts of Umbrella's demise.

Survivor revealed just how messed-up and deep Umbrella's operations can get and also hinted at Umbrella's imminent demise with files mentioning a federal investigation into Raccoon City and how the company was trying to pin all the blame on William Birkin to avoid further federal charges. That's part of why Survivor is the only one of the Gun Survivor games to be explicitly canon.

Code Veronica had the major plot points of the Redfields reuniting and the revelation of Wesker's survival, along with the demise of the Ashford Family. You also had the mystery built up around Ozwell Spencer and the fact that we didn't even know what he looked like until RE5.

The implications at the end of Code Veronica was that the next major Resident Evil game was going to be the grand "End of Umbrella" finale with Ozwell Spencer and possibly Wesker as the main villains.

Then RE4 comes around and just ditches all of it, relegating it off to the side. We eventually got a more extended look at the fall of Umbrella in the Umbrella Chronicles side game, which featured the demise of Sergei Vladimir and Wesker's hand in the company's downfall.

A lot of people forget that RE5 was supposed to be the very last RE game when it was first announced, which is why they had Wesker as the final boss in that one. However, the Wesker plotline was poorly handled and Ozwell Spencer's big debut is basically just a cutscene where he gets offed by Wesker.

RE4 is a fun game and has a lot of good things going for it, but it is the definitive point where the series went off the rails and RE4's massive success is part of why RE5 and RE6 ended up the way they were.

I don't think it went off the rails, I think they were trying to introduce an anthology concept where the games have different BOWs. 3 basically put one foot forward into that idea by having Leon press ganged into being a BOW agent for the US due to his experience. That's not even considering the hellish development cycle and disappointing sales figures of Code Veronica, from what I remember.

True, I don't think RE4 itself is why the series went off the rails but rather what came after it when it became a huge hit.

Basically, RE4 was a great game, and RE5 and RE6 tried to be "RE4 cranked up to eleven!" without considering what made RE4 great. RE4 is a great action game, but it still had a firm horror atmosphere, a very old-school Gothic atmosphere and the first two chapters of the game remind me of the original Wicker Man movie from the 1970's.

RE5 was trying to wrap up the Wesker arc as quickly as possible and RE6 was basically "Die Hard with monsters" and they didn't have the great atmosphere that RE4 had.

You know, this guy is right, this is how Resident Evil 7 should have started. (pro-watch)

RE2 might be more topical

His entire channel is great.

Are people actually upset that they took away Jill's tube top and mini skirt?
They're angry over nothing, since I'm pretty sure they revealed it's still in as an alternate costume, just like with Leon and Claire's original looks in RE2.

I also hope they add in the other extra outfits from the clothing boutique in in the original RE3, including the one of Regina from Dino Crisis.

The anthology concept is fine, the trouble is 4 was not the game they should have introduced it in, they should have stuck with their original plan of giving the grand finale showdown with Wesker and Umbrella, then with a RE5 they could have introduced a new story arc.
