Straight laced and professional kind of sums up everyone prior to RE4 though. Chris was a tough stoic guy, Jill was a tough stoic girl, Barry was a tough stoic guy with terrible dialogue, etc.

Characterisation wasn't exactly at its peak during the PSX era.

early on, before she bonds with Carlos
No, she doesn't. She's a boss bitch to him immediately. Refusing help walking and keeps him at arms length for at least half the game. I haven't played it in like two years so maybe I'm misremembering the amount of time she behaves that way. But she's a flaming cunt in that. Not to mention fucking ugly with her refrigerator body.
Claire didn't get it as bad. She is still kind of gentle and motherly in Remake and only gets shitty in reasonable circumstances.
Her whole function in the remake is to just be the female character, and nothing more. She constantly needs help from men. Talking up her brother. Getting warned about weirdos on the phone. Because the audience needs to be constantly reminded she's a weak woman.

Her voice is awful. She's just an HR twat.

Except Brad. Brad was not stoic or tough. At least not until he became a zombie, then he was stoic and tough.

Jill's outfit blows because she's the same bad bitch design we see in everything now. Tank top, pants, short brown hair. Totally forgettable, the only way they could make it more forgettable is if she used a fucking bow and arrow.

It's more she just doesn't feel like Jill in general. Jill was very straight laced and professional, especially in 3. In Remake she's saying retarded shit like "Bitch can't even swim." And all the lines that would have been accurate and badass got shunted out of the way or cut entirely.

I know what Capcom was going for with the remakes. in the original, the sequels were expanding on the lore, thats why we get Ada cringe on announcing his boyfriend is an Umbrella researcher and she is looking for him. or Branaugh explaining to Leon that Umbrella is behind it all.

in the remakes, they shifted the focus on the characters, and their personal stakes. it is not perfect, but I feel that they have done better than the originals on making people care. Irons and Ada was done better in remakes, even Marvin, Leon may be debatable, but I think he is a better because he acts like a rookie cop that follow orders than the hard-boiled cop he acts like in 2. I guess they can change the characterizations because they are essentially new characters in the story not tied from RE1.

but 3make, I think the game tried to do the same trick again, but forgot that 3 also is set in the same time and place with 2, and forgot that it shares lore. the lore changed and felt like the zombie apocalypsed happened exactly on Sept 28, not started since 24. the city full of rubble and cars stacked on each other, buildings exploding and whatever, felt like an alien invasion rather than a zombie apocalypse that kept escalating till the boiling point. compare it to 2make, where you can see that the cars are jampacked with every car facing the police station where it suggests that everyone tried to gather at the police station to seek refuge from the zombies.

lets not forget about Jill. Jill changed for the worst and possibly the worst character in the game. since she is from 1, there is already an pre-existing characterization and expectations on how she would react. i guess its a little understandable that she became a ptsd conspiracy theory schizo tard because of her experience in 1, but that would actually make her retard schizo ass more aware and notice the zombie apocalypse early on. what is she doing during Sept 24-28? sleeping like a retard? not only that, she felt like a tourist on her own city that she lives in and Carlos has to give her directions. also the ill give you stars is so out of place. I think it should been in the clocktower fight, it would fit better there.

I love how people whose only experience with RE2 is the remake have popularized the perception that Leon has always been a boy scout. Like he wasn't constantly trying to flex his authority as a cop in the original and usually just getting ignored by everyone.

I still don't understand how she got her pizza delivered and somehow doesn't know shits falling apart around her.

She's hammered as fuck on beer, wine and pills. Like, it's not even subtext - her apartment is covered in that shit.
True, but you'd think Brad would of tipped her off in the note he slipped her. Or at the very least the pizza guy might of brought it up.

"Here's you pizza ma'am. Would of been here sooner but I had to detour around the horde of shambling undead feasting on the living."

Any indication the pizza is that fresh, though? Bitch is living nasty.
as early as mid August, there are already some zombies spilling out of the abandoned factory to the city and early September, 2 officers from RPD were infected from the water.

according to Capcom, the t-virus from Nemesis Jill got have her cell slow down the cell aging or something like that
Still, that what happens when the T-virus affected her local Subway

Speaking of REmake, am I the only one not shitting on One Dangerous Zombie?

I mean, he's pretty easy to avoid, stops showing up after the residence and takes the place of zombies I would have to kill and burn otherwise, saving me ammo and fuel.

Since when was that ever a thing?

My only complaint is that he's not in enough of the game. He should be appearing in every zone. Even the lab.
Go on reddit or gaming boards.
There's an almost incessant whining about it.

On reddit there was some cuck too who complained that the game was too hard because some zombies followed you in the next room if you didn't kill them.

Following you room to room was awesome since it was RNG based and you never knew when that would be a thing in your particular game.

Forest was always easy to juke, even in tank controls.

He can't grab you on the west stairway since no zombies are programmed to do anything but vomit on steps.

Agree. I was 12 or so when I first played the game and the first time it happened - me running into another room and then hear the banging on the door it was terrifying and awesome at the same time.

I remember the first time I had a Crimson head I didn't know about in the U shaped hallway where the armor room is. It didn't aggro until I came around the one corner and it roared and swiped at me and I literally hollered at the screen.
