The reason I'm so obsessed with Spencer is I just wonder what his backstory was originally intended to be, I'm assuming that original version of RE4 was going to be a deep dive into his history the way CV delved into the Ashfords and Zero delved into Marcus, but instead we got the barest minimum with Lost In Nightmares.
The whole history of the Ashfords was so well done in CV, it just would have been really cool to see what the writer of CV had cooked up for Spencer.
I mean this was the guy who set the entire series into motion and he was just tossed aside in such an offhand way, I'm not wrong for feeling that is deeply bizarre a choice, am I?
Here's an idea, if they don't bring him back, and they don't want to do a "what if" game, just make a spinoff entry set earlier in the timeline ala the Revelations games where Spencer castle is the setting and we learn what the history of that family is, set in between RE3 and RE5, have a new character who wakes up inside the castle and has to escape very much like Fiona in Haunting Ground, reuse some of the original ideas of RE4, I mean come on, this seems like such an obvious idea to me.
The airship bit reminds me of Rule of Rose.
I wonder if that's not a coincidence, that RE4 trailer was 2002 and Rule of Rose started development in 2003 I believe, it's good that someone utilized that idea because an airship is weirdly perfect location for a survival horror game.
An RE4 remake is unneeded though.
Agreed, I'm honestly not sure I care if RE4 remake is just the same game with better graphics, hopefully it'll be really reworked like RE2 remake was.
Controversial opinion, but I'd like to see a remake of Survivor, since I think that game suffers heavily from the phenomenon of "the good concept that was badly executed" more than almost any of the old-school RE games.
Since it's referenced in Zero that kind of solidifies it's place as canon despite being so obscure, it'd be cool to see a remake presented as the "lost" RE story.
