I wish capcom made some more tank control games with the REmake engine. Churn out a few games with 20 year old specs that still hold up today. Less dev time, less memory space. Less costs. The backdrops are pre-rendered so re-used assets are less noticeable.
I liked the feel of the old RE games were you're just exploring places and managing your inventory. All the overblown action stuff kinda knocks the wind out it's sails.
At this point, someone should just pool their resources and try for a fan remake of certain older games in that style or something. If it's a game that Capcom has no interest in remaking or reviving, they're a lot more likely to just ignore it, unlike Nintendo.
The one big example of a Resident Evil fan game being given a C&D in the past few years that I can remember would be that fan remake of RE2 and this was issued because they were working on the actual RE2 remake at the time.
As far as I know, the recent Code Veronica remake project has been going a lot better and lasting a lot longer than I expected, given it's a fan project and all. I should see if there are any new updates on it since I haven't checked on it in a while.
As much as I like to say that Resident Evil: Survivor was a flawed but still enjoyable hidden gem, I think it really is the perfect choice for the fan remake treatment for a variety of reasons unrelated to my admittedly unpopular opinions on it.
Survivor is a short and relatively simple game that still uses the tank controls (albeit in first-person) and classic RE monsters and it's also likely safe from Capcom issuing a C&D since its the classic RE game that's the least likely to get remade or re-released outside of maybe Gaiden.
Hahahahahaha flashback to that interview with the director when talking about the casting, and he said something like "We didnt base it around looks, but more around if they can pull the character off accurately"
Apparently every single female character is "Sarcastic and quirky" to these guys
I think that note tied in with the Ada Wong scenario, she fights the forces that were supposed to cause general chaos in the US, but it makes me wonder if they were already working on the PS2 port and had the Ada scenario in mind or if this was meant to tie into a potential RE5 with Las Plagas on the loose in the US, I wonder if the los illuminados were meant to be a continuing antagonist like Umbrella and I wonder if there was supposed to be a twist where the name is simply what they're called in Spanish and in reality they are in fact simply the global Illuminati.
At any rate I forgot about this note and being reminded it was one of the more interesting aspects of replaying the game earlier this year.
Contrary opinion here: I hated the Hook-man demo shit and I'm glad that it got canned. Looked too much like RE was trying to be Silent Hill.
I've harped on it before, but they really should of split the series up. One could of been more action-oriented, the other could of been more slow, with exploration and survival being front and center. Instead they kept trying to bottle lightning twice (and in a way actually succeeded) by trying to remake the RE4 formula.
Bonus contrary opinion: I don't really like the SH series.
I am kinda eh on the Hookman version, what I really wish we got was what's called the "castle" or "fog" version, but I still find the Hookman version more interesting than the final game.
Having a more action heavy Resident Evil game as a spinoff is a great idea though, much like the Street Fighter EX series from back in the day, in fact I wouldn't be against them brining back the RE4 style in all new game... as a spinoff, the mainline series should have always been focused on horror.

I've long wished we could get a "Mega Man 9" style throwback RE game, I just don't understand why people don't see the old style as a legitimate style just like a 2D pixel art is game is seen as a legit style and not just "dated"

MM is seem as the more arcade game between the two, so a throw back game could still fit in. In a more "serious" franchise like RE, a graphical return would be difficult to justify proper in their eyes.

I mean something in the graphical style of REmake or RE0, not the cheesier style of RE1 or RE2, so there wouldn't be any tonal clash with the newer games.
Spinoff media like Infinite Darkness always reveals that plenty of side stories were supposed to have happened, so why not have one that's an actual game?
The C-virus (god that name didnt age well) zombies differs from the T-Virus zombies
"
What sets them apart from t-Virus Zombies are four things. Firstly, C-Virus Zombies do not suffer the same degree of mental deterioration that their counterparts do, and are more likely to be seen using blunt weapons. This is a trait likely relating to genes derived from the t-Veronica Virus. Secondly, the C-Virus is known to be capable of reviving mummified corpses, as the Golgotha Virus was capable of doing. Thirdly, these Zombies are known to be more manoeuvrable than their counterparts, being known to pounce on prey, and though t-Virus Zombies are known to sprint to a limited degree these mutants do so much more often.[3] Fourthly, while the C-Virus can be inhaled as an airborne pathogen easily, it is not contagious in fluid exposure. As consequence, a Zombie bite will not spread the virus further. This trait was spotted during the Marhawa Desire after Ricky Tozawa was bitten."
Besides, the C-Virus zombies were so fucking tedious to fight in RE 6, they felt so...bullet spongey (even when shooting them in the head). I also kind of hate how Leon does his judo moves on them and that somehow kills them, I get its a gameplay thing but I can never imagine a zombie of any kind dying to a fucking spinning kick.
Man, thinking about RE 6, I gotta say, Leon and female-companion-that-isnt-Claire-but -honestly-should-have-been have some insane plot armor even for RE 6's standards. Dont get me wrong, all playable characters have record amounts of plot armor that I have seen in any media, but Leon and FCTICBHSHB's were the most baffling of all, especially with the survivors in the city. I honestly say that these survivors had a better shot at surviving without Leon and FCTICBHSHB because the moment these two joined them, they were freaking screwed, since now every zombie enemy will come to get that sweet playable character's booty and everyone else is fair game for cheap shock value.
There are only so many times I can say "Leon and FCTIC-(look you get the point) should have died so many times and yet they are the only ones that survive, they always just happen to never land on any sharp objects or on their necks or be in the wrong spot to get fatally grabbed by some enemy like most red shirts are."
This series used to be better when you were pretty much playing as a red shirt against an enemy that could easily take you out at any minute.

I dont know, maybe Revelations 3 will adapt to the series's new horror focused phase and attempt something different, since FPS would be too similar to 7 and 8 and over the shoulder perspective would be too similar to REmake 2 and 3...so maybe fixed perspective might be the winner here? I dont know, a handsome man can dream.
What would Revelations 3 even BE about? 2 already brought back fan favorites that havent been touched in a while like Claire and Barry. I personally think we could pick up on post RE 5 Jill (played by her old model, Sasha was a crappy Jill).

Bringing back zombies and another fictional US city was a good idea, it just wasn't executed well.
For one thing Tall Trees should have been the main setting and fleshed out more rather than the globe trotting visiting to Eastern Europe and China, for another the controls having you be able to fling yourself around and stuff was dumb, facing hordes of zombies with RE4 style controls would have been pretty scary.
Tall Trees as a more distinctive and fleshed out place and RE4 style gameplay, plus a less stupid story and it would have been a solid game.

Did I say this in this thread or another one? But part of the point of survival horror was playing as more everyday, realistic people, people who either had police or military training ala RE or people who were completely average everyday people ala Silent Hill or vulnerable young women ala Clock Tower, Fatal Frame, Haunting Ground or Rule of Rose, the point being people who were in no way superhuman actions stars.
It was so dumb for RE to stray away from that, but that was one thing that made RE7 and RE8 work is Ethan was just an average dude.

Biggest hanging plot thread from the Revelations games is Natalia with the mind of Alex Wesker.
Hard to imagine where or when it could be set, but the return of Jill would make sense and be cool, here's a crazy idea, maybe it could be Jill and Claire teaming up?
These trailers for the new movie got me somewhat interested in checking out some of the W.S. Anderson movies again https://youtube.com/watch?v=nit4bC_fgN0They're terrible, but they had their moments.
6 was the worst one, but all the others are definitely worth a shot in my opinion. First 3 are great, 4th one is ok, 5th one is so good it makes 6 look criminal.
Dom cruse I cant reply, but another plot thread that needs to be picked up on I think is the one from the first Revelations. There's characters at the end who have a sample of the T-abyss virus. That has a very very interesting effect on people and I think they should bring that back.

6 is far from being the worst IMO, it sucks mostly because it does away with the cliffhanger of 5 and then procedes to retcon 80% of the franchise. Wesker is fucking wasted also.
For me it goes 5>4>2, then 6 and 1 tied, then 3. 3 is just fucking boring, theres not enough schlock. Niggas straight up tried to rip off Day of the Dead sometimes.

It did give me the idea to write a zombie comic set in the Nevada desert, so there is that. 3 was interesting ideas with poor executions.
Then again, who had the idea of suddenly changing from the plot of the games into a world wide zombie apocalypse, given that never happened in the source material...?

Booo. I totally want that alternate RE7 concept where it went pure OTT action. Gimme Resident Evil Rising with Jake vs. Wesker. Have him work as a contractor for Blue Umbrella tracking down the remnants of old Umbrella.
Which was one of the best parts in the game, and over all too soon.

Eh, to me being able to dodge out of the way and other maneuvers makes sense to me. I don't know how many time's I've thought: "Why the fuck can't I just dodge past the zombie?" or if I'm low on ammo "Why can't I pistol-whip the damn thing?"
Much like the rest of RE6 though, it just wasn't implemented as well as it could of been.
Completely agree that Tall Oaks should of been the main campaign, at least for Leon. Running though the streets from zombie hordes? Great! Running though a graveyard with obvious jump-scares? Not so great. Then from the church onward it just got stupid...
...And don't even get me started on the catacombs.
You mean the bottomless caves under a Midwestern US church filled with all sorts of mummified corpses equipped in European arms and armor and a gigantic mutant crocodile?

Mutated shark, and don't forget about the (lit) dynamite, the fully functional traps, the electricity running though there, how none of the architecture looks like any culture that had been there previously, and how the underwater sections look almost like they'd be at home in a DMC game...

Something I'd love to see Capcom do and they'd probably never even entertain the notion of, would be a compilation that's fairly cheap and easy to make while also being a guaranteed seller as well.
The compilation could be called "Resident Evil: The Early Years" or something and would be a compilation of ports for the first few games in the series, moreso the original PS1 versions as opposed to their remakes.
Namely, these would be the five games that would be up for play when you start the game.
However, I'd add a lot of bonus hidden content as well that can be unlocked.
The bonus content could be both typical things like a gallery to read files and view concept art and CG stills or FMV's and hidden games like the Saturn port of RE1 with the Battle Mode and the OG RE1 soundtrack and the N64 port of RE2 with the EX files and the option for funky colored blood.
I'd even up the ante by having the last unlockable games being ports of Dino Crisis 1 and Dino Crisis 2 and use that as a way to test the waters for a potential remake or something.
Basically, it'd go like this.
RE1: Director's Cut, RE2, RE3, Survivor, and Code Veronica X are all available for play at the start.
RE1 Saturn, RE2 N64, and Resident Evil: Gaiden, along with the first two Dino Crisis games would be unlocked as hidden games.
Maybe add in Dead Aim and Dino Stalker if they don't take up too much space.
If you beat all the games on the disc including the hidden ones, you can watch Biohazard: 4D Executor in the FMV gallery or something.
Since it'd just be porting or emulating a bunch of 90's/very early 2000's games, I'd say all the games could fit on a PS4 disc fairly easily.
Kind of autistic, I'll admit. But it'd work as a quick budget title that could make some quick money for Capcom at the very least.
