I've always wondered what the series would look like if RE4 went with the "Take down Umbrella!" plotline with Spencer as the main villain.

I'd assume RE5 would still happen with the assumption it would be the very last game in the main series though, but it would likely play out differently.

On a side note, I remember when I was a kid, some of the people I knew who were into Resident Evil were convinced that Dino Crisis and Devil May Cry were somehow set in the same universe as Resident Evil.

With Dino Crisis, I assume it's because of the Umbrella logo that's in the first game as an Easter Egg.

Like I said before, early Resident Evil fandom and fanon was really autistic most of the time but in a quaint and kind of fun way.

As I've mentioned before, I feel like the seeds were being planted for the series to continue post Umbrella with the revelation in Outbreak that the US military was experimenting with the T-Virus, which Outbreak would have been in full development, maybe even completed, while RE4 was still in it's "take down Umbrella" phase.

They really did censor the wiki page. Not even the same name, this is stupid.

@Dom Cruise
Been a little while since I played Revelations 2 but I don't remember it referencing 6 in the main story, I do remember it referencing 5 when Barry says "it's showing symptoms of ouroboros, a virus encountered in Africa" though.

I should also show this. Pretty funny. View attachment 2757935
Truly a cow
You think he's a cow now? Dudes been accused of being a sex pest this year. Few receipts been cashed in on his behavior but most of what's been said are accusations, but the mention of his interest in petite girls and his alcoholic behavior been popping up as well as others mentioning his accidental restroom movies.

I suspect he's going to be replaced after RE4 remake(which is why he leaked the art), which is ironic because Richard Waugh was replaced by him 15 years ago after RE4.

I just got to watch the new movie which is incredible.

It feels like FMVs from the game remixed and connected through nonsensical dialogues sequences while taking "miscast" and "misunderstood" to a whole new level.
It's low budget af. and they're not even trying to hide it.
It tries to be RE1 and RE2 at the same time but leaves everything good from the games out of the movie.
The writers came up with new background stories for some of the characters just to justify them being there at the same time. Even if you don't know shit about the first 3 games, it's insultingly bad.
The paycheck for the actors wasn't that big and it shows in their performance.

Some of my personal highlights when it comes to the changes they made compared to the games:

- Chris and Claire Redfield as well as Lisa Trevor grew up in the RC orphanage overseen by Birkin.
- Only Mr. Birkin is evil af. Mrs. Birkin had no idea at all.
- Leon is Kang
- Jill is Kang
- Lisa Trevor kills the one and only licker in the movie. The scene lasts about 20 seconds.
- Wesker has been degraded some random 3rd grade betrayer

I'd say it's way worse than the first 2 RE movies featuring Milla.
It's better than all the previous Resident Evil movies because those were just shitty gay fanfiction about the directors wife.

I don't care if Douglas is a weirdo he needs to keep doing wesker for mercenaries... whenever it comes back.

Resident Evil sure went down the shitter after Zero. RE4 still felt Resident Evil-y enough and was a good game in its own right, but after that it was trash. Then the trash became a first-person shooter. What the fuck even is this series now?

There was a downturn after Zero, though the Outbreak games kept some of the old magic alive.

RE4 is maybe the most overrated game of all time, I was honestly surprised how much I was not enjoying it when I replayed it last year, impressive for 2005 but doesn't really hold up.

Especially after 4 there was a big downgrade, but RE2 Remake is the best game since Zero and RE7 and RE8, while yes, first person does change the feel a lot, are still great games, RE8 especially works because while it's first person it's set in a very classically Resident Evil environment.

It was bittersweet beating Zero after another replay last year though, knowing what an end of an era for the series it was.

I've never played any of the resident evil games. Are the games more-or-less standalone or should I play the games chronologically?

If they are stand alone stories, what games do you guys recommend?

I always say stick with the original 3.

There is an overarching story that gets more bugfuck convoluted as the games go on, but you don't need to know any deep lore to enjoy them so you can jump in more or less where you want to. My recommendations are:

  • REmake 1 and 2: Both do an excellent job of taking the originals and fleshing them out with only a few minor nit-picks.
  • RE3: The original, not the remake. One of my favorites in the series, it's more action oriented while still maintaining a sense of dread as you try to escape a city overrun.
  • Outbreak file 1 and 2: Admittingly, it might not be for everyone, and is it best played with friends (the official servers have since been shut down but a couple fan servers still are going strong) but it's perhaps the perfect cross between RE2's more slower and puzzle oriented gameplay and RE3's more action oriented one.
  • RE4: A fairly polarizing game in the series, it's more actiony than the previously mentioned titles with a much stronger B-movie vibe. Still an excellent game though and definitely worth a play through to see how much it influenced future RE games.
  • RE6: I would recommend this one only if you have a friend with you to play couch co-op with. Otherwise hard pass on this title.

I would suggest the fucking survivor series of Resident Evil LONG before I would say number 6. That game is a truly wretched experience. Unless you are a long time fan trying to follow the plot (lol, smoke crack faggot, it makes as much sense) then skip that one.

Eh, 6 is fun if you just want to blam blam blam zombies and laugh at the shit cut scene acting with a friend. Pretty fun and mindless, but only with a friend.
