You have no situational awareness, no "danger sense"; you can't sense someone watching you or coming up behind you (it would actually be cool if a game could simulate that, like have some kind of indicator when your character sense something watching them or behind them).
That could be done with a slight audio que like a low "sssshhhh" done with binaural audio so you can "feel" the location of the sound. The old Wheel of Time game was creepy as fuck when played like that.

Finished up RE Village today, don't know what hardcore RE fans think of it but I found it to be a decent action game and not much else. Maybe I played it too soon after RE7 but the tonal shift was a little jarring. Went from an atmospheric horror game in 7 to a goofy action shooter in 8. There were one or two areas where there was some tension but survival horror was overall in short supply, the story was a fucking mess and the puzzles were downright laughable. Also this is entirely subjective but I didn't really like the setting, specifically the colour palate - it just looked really drab and boring to me.

Its not a bad game, pretty solid and I had fun playing it, but RE2make blows 8 (and 7 honestly) completely out of the water. They tried their best with the fatass Ethan Ralph shop keeper but he will never replace my OG nigga

Speaking of which - why are people still asking for an RE4 remake? Village is your remake (or reimagining, call it what your want), for better or for worse this is the best we are going to get unless Capcom get really desperate.

Were people asking for it? I legit have no idea, it just seems like the *thing* Capcom decided to do to me but I don't have my finger to the RE pulse.

I feel like a Remake of RE4 is going to be disappointing. I get the feeling it's going to lose all the heart of the original and take itself way too seriously.

Can't say that I do either honestly, but feels like I've seen a lot of post in various places with people saying they want one. Could just be me reading too much into forum posts here and there.

After village I don't know what a remake of 4 would even look like given how heavily village borrows from 4 though.

Anyway, now I'm done with village the only mainline game I've not played is 6 but I don't know if I want to even go there with how bad of a reputation it has.

I played a demo featuring Leon's campaign, it was okay for what it was. Just felt like more RE5, if you liked that (I didn't).

RE4's graphics have aged like milk, it desperately needs an update, it'd look great in the RE engine.

But what I REALLY want from an RE4 remake is them finally making the "Spencer castle" game we were robbed of.

I agree that RE2 Remake is better than 7 and 8 overall, but I really enjoyed 8, even though you can tell it was a game chopped down from what it was probably originally meant to be thanks to Covid, but the Beneviento house is my favorite specific moment in the series since the classic days, a game hasn't scared me as bad in a long time.

Nah, I'm play RE4 VR and the graphics are still fine.
Speaking of which, I'm a month late but finally played Mercenaries on it. Lots of fun in VR.

Is that one of the RE4 prototypes? The supernatural one, I presume. That was cool, they should do a spinoff like that.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but...

If this is true then we’re getting an RE4 remake announcement on Thursday. If not, then, oh well.

What the hell is the “last hopes” update for RE8? Big questions there. Probably the DLC but update?

Now, my big guess is that this is bullshit. I’ve fallen for enough “leaks”, so I’ll completely ignore this for now.

Save yourself from hell.

You mean the Hook Man demo? That had a cool concept. Apparently it was a new virus causing Leon to hallucinate, thus leading to the freaky supernatural stuff.

Just like 3make, I doubt it's gonna be as long as og 4 (they'll cut it into 10 hours since Capcom has q thing for completing half of the remakes and selling them unless it's REmake 2002)

I heard they'd announce GTA on this State of Play but now I'm not so sure.

There were two that were publicly shown, one is dubbed "fog" and shows Leon in a dark, spooky castle (specifically the home of Umbrella founder Spencer) and airship and the enemy is a cloud of living fog unleashed by the H.C.F. (this was later reused as Ouroboros in RE5), that was 2002.

The second was shown in 2003 and was the "Hookman" version, Leon is infected with something that makes him hallucinate seemingly supernatural things like a hookman ghost, living dolls etc, presumably the setting was still Spencer castle.

As a matter of fact, they DID do a spinoff with these ideas, the PS2 game Haunting Ground, although that was more based on the "fog" version and not the "hookman" one, judging from what we know about early RE4 and what wound up in Haunting Ground, Fiona and Hewie were actually in RE4 and judging from Haunting Ground, Spencer would have wanted her so he could be reborn as her baby (yikes)

I hope the RE4 remake reuses the "Spencer castle" scenario as certainly Capcom has got to realize people are getting sick of RE4 by now and since 2 and 3 remake can be seen as essentially their own continuity by this point, it's the perfect opportunity to do a "what if?" game, at the very least it'd be cool if they included that as an alternate scenario alongside a remake of the 2004 game, but that might be too ambitious, maybe as DLC?

I had no idea Haunting Ground was at all related to Resident Evil, that's really interesting. As for a "what if" game, DLC makes more sense from a business perspective. They'd probably want to play it safe with the core game, but optional DLC shouldn't be scared to be unique.

On a similar note, I remember seeing a fixed camera mod or something for RE4 and it actually looked good, almost as if it may have been designed that way on purpose (or it's a huge coincidence that it would just so happen to be designed in a way that's not far removed from the originals to the degree that fixed camera views are potentially viable). It wasn't perfect but I'd definitely like to see an official option implemented.

Haunting Ground was born from the original script of RE4 and a desire to make a Clock Tower 4, Capcom decided to combine the two things and create an all new series, I think the idea was knowing RE was moving in a more action heavy direction, Haunting Ground was meant to be the new thing more focused on pure horror.

But tragically the game was so overshadowed by RE4 and DMC3 that it bombed even though it's amassed a sizable cult following since, even if Capcom doesn't touch the "Spencer castle" scenario it seems like a no brainer to me to reboot Haunting Ground, but there's an issue where the original writer of both said RE4 scenario and Haunting Ground tragically died before HG even released, which could be one reason why it never got a sequel as I believe there's a taboo in Japanese culture about messing with anything from someone who's passed away (for example Colonel Campbell in Metal Gear has never been seen again since 4 because his original Japanese voice actor passed away)

Haunting Ground is actually my favorite Capcom game, topping even REmake (though it's very close), it's cool that it got made, but I've always had an intense fascination with the "Spencer castle" scenario of RE4 and would love for Capcom to return to it.
