Honestly I'd still mostly take the tradeoff here. At least I can call 4chan tourists niggers and laugh when they think stalking you from thread to thread and leaving mean profile comments makes a difference.
This is pretty much why I still use the site. You can actually have negative opinions here without needing to prostrate yourself with "Guys I really really really love Resident Evil and the Remake is AWESOME but I do kiiiiind of wish Ashley had her fat tits back."

Getting someone to go to your profile and call you a faggot rapist twenty times is just an added bonus honestly.

So, I have been replaying all the resident evils for the halloween. and some musings:

1.) I like the original Resident Evil over the Remake. the Remake makes it feel you are going through a shitty zombie-themed horror mansion in a circus.
2.) I just recently learned you can make enhanced handgun and shotgun ammo in RE3. Still can't beat all 8 Nemmy encounters without abusing the AI/hitbox
3.) RE5 Mercenaries No Mercy is infinitely more fun than RE6 Mercenaries No Mercy
4.) Fuck RE0 and its stupid hook shot
5.) RE3 Remake is almost good if it has longer city section, making more Nemmy encounters. I like Carlos section more than the original. Nemmy rewards are disappointing other than the high capacity handgun clip, completely removing the risk/reward of fighting Nemmy
6.) RE2 Remake, Claire is more overpowered than Leon. her weapons other than the sparkshot is so much better than any of Leon's weapon. Leon's only good weapon is the flamethrower, which can definitely easily kill the plant zombies, where Claire has to waste upto 3 flame rounds to kill.
Also, Claire's route make it easier to conserve bullets. for example, Claire A only needs to go to the west wing 2 times, while Leon has to go there 3 times (the other 1 is to open the door to get the jack handle). Leon's dogs encounter in the parking lot is harder to manage than Claire's dogs encounter in the parking lot.
In fact, I find it very easy to do Claire No Damage runs in hardcore than Leon No Damage, mainly the fact that the Super Tyrant in Leon's route is fucking shit, compared to Claire where you can hide because there's a train in the middle.

Which sucks because any place "more positive" is most likely in the complete opposite direction where everyone's a consoomer and do not ask questions, simply consoom product or else you're a toxic gamer chud.
True, but sometimes it feels like that's what people want when they start getting overly upset at negatives on here.

Unfortunately the internet is a place of extremes, so you either have to learn to accept being the odd man out in some forums, or just go with the extreme.

This is part of the reason that I always hated the statement "REmake completely supplants the original, don't bother with the it." While I think it can be argued that REmake is the better game, I think the OG still has a more interesting and surreal atmosphere. REmake's mansion is a conventional spooky abandoned mansion, dark, creepy and dirty. The OG mansion reminds me of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. The mansion was being used prior to the outbreak, dozens of personnel lived and worked there and at first glance it seemed like everyone just disappeared. It feels more like you are actually a police officer investigating a crime scene and uncovering the mystery of what actually happened than just solving spooky puzzles in a dark and dirty haunted house. I still love both immensely though.

I don't think any remake, no matter how well executed or faithful, can ever truly supplant the original. Games are such a unique amalgamation of time, tech, creativity and execution that you can change one seemingly tiny thing and completely alter the experience.

It's why the remakes being unfaithful in some ways doesn't really bother me. Anyone that says you don't need to play the original of a game because the remake is out is coping or too stupid to handle a classic.

You only need 1 flame grenade for ivy's. They have bulbs you shoot all over them and they break in 1 shot no matter what so the smg is king here, then you burn them when theyre all/mostly gone. I usually shoot the ones on front, nade, then get any back ones.

Not on Hardcore.

Just played through the HD modded version of the mid-2000s PC release of the original RE. Haven't played it in years and when I did, it was the DS version. It was a perfectly enjoyable experience. I think the fact that I started and finished it today speaks volumes to how well it has aged compared to some other games of the era. It definitely has not been made redundant by the remake. Fuck, it's not like someone couldn't just play them back to back as relatively short as they are.

I've only played on hardcore. Unless this is another framerate bug increasing damage.
No bug at all. There's times they don't die from one hit and will lie on the ground still moving and reanimate eventually.

Gets naded.

Return trip it gets back up along with the one that falls from the ceiling.

You knock them down with one flame round but they're not dead.

This made me lol so much I just had to post it here. How do you do a video on one of the bloodiest franchises like Resident Evil and try to avoid the gore on purpose? Is youtube really that bad that playing a violent video game can get you demonetized?
Yes, and while I can't say specifically when it started; but it was going on as early as Mortal Kombat 11 that I can recall. Guys were having a hard time doing combo videos and other things because there was so much blood and gore that the video would get demonitized; and do remember that demonitization isn't just a loss of money, it also hurts the video and your standings in the algorithm. So even if you try to eat the cost because you're putting out some quality kahntent; you're taking a hit to what is effectively your social credit score because good YouTubers don't post blood or gore. In more recent memory, Callisto Protocol and Dead Space Remake were also contenders for "How hard do I have to hide shit to not get throw into the pit."

I'm talking about RE2 Remake hardcore difficulty. I finished the games Claire A/B and Leon A/B so many times, I'm almost at Carci level.

you know thats the problem with the Claire's flame rounds with the plant zombies. you have to shoot the bulbs first because the flame rounds don't kill them in at least 2 shots.

But on the upside. Leon's shotgun is weak. if the zombie raise his hands to either shield or grab you, the shotgun to the face will not decapitate them. Claire's flame rounds will kill all zombies in 1 hit, provided that you watch them drop down dead. the only downside is that you can't craft flame rounds and the acid rounds are shittier to use on zombies, but on the upside, killing bosses are super easy with the acid rounds. you can stunloop Birkin 3 to death with the acid rounds. and that's why you don't even need the sparkshot for Claire. the shotgun's only advantage is that you make more ammo than acid rounds.

also, I hate the Ada/Sherry sections, they slow down the game's pace to a glacial crawl. also I noticed that if you shoot X's hat off, you have a higher chance he won't teleport to the evidence room when you get the jack handle.

I know REmake released on the cube in '02, but I don't think it hit PC until 2015.
I'm one of those weirdos who liked the original more than REmake, but I'm also the kind of weirdo who actually enjoyed Umbrella Chronicles.

I liked the two just the same for me

I played the HD project Sourcenext version of RE1 recently and I still love the original. I'm not offended if people like the original. I like REmake better but it wouldn't be as enjoyable without a person playing the original first, since that was Mikami's intention.

While I think overall it's the best of the series (not my fav tho) it's acting is arguably worse than the goofy cadence than the original had since it's pretty monotone and Peter Jessop is the only good actor in it as Wesker. I for one always loved the acting in the original just for how weird and silly it was.

REmake isn't without it's flaws. They cut the decapitations by Hunters in it stupidly when it was in the original trailer. I'm pretty sure in the original, if you didn't get to Rebecca in time in the library, you find her headless from the Hunter.
