I'm glad we also established Resident Evil was never scary, it depends way too much on tired tropes and cheap jumpscares.

I guess this comes down to when you started playing RE. When RE1 came out it could scare people. By the time RE4 rolled around most everybody knew what to expect. There were some places where it could be scary, but that really depended on how well your suspension of disbelief worked.

I'd also like to point out that when RE1 came out the tired old tropes were still new to video games.

You can make an argument for the first game, sure. Second one? Story was pure garbage, it was so stupid that it completely took me out of it. Horror in 3 came mostly from being followed by NEMESIS. Personally, I find RE4 and 5 scary still because the idea of a Las Plagas and Ouroborous virus is much worse than the T virus and the classic slow shambling zombies.
Also, giant animals and insects are just goofy. Glad they stopped putting these in.

Cause kike'd media outlets started running the types of stories we'd come to know as "gay woke shit" about the game at the time. During the age of Obongo being groomed for puppet prez status, you couldn't have a game about a White dude going around cappin' nigs in mudcookie land without a stir - despite Leon S. Kennedy genociding hispanics in rural Spain just a couple years prior no issue. Attacking the Media Tribe's sub-saharan cudgels is/was a no-go zone (pun intended), so rags like IGN etc. started predictably screaming "Racissssssssss!", and the usual suspects helped spread it far and wide.

Capcom; on their way to becoming modern CuckCom (I'd imagine partly due to this incident), then inserted a Black Female Sidekick (sheva) into the game, as if to digitally say, "Noooooo we're not Racissssss sirry round eye!! Pretty prease no srander!!". They also put those lighter skin Indians into the zombie hordes in order to #Diversify the overly Nigger'd Wakanda. Which is kindov interesting actually, since it's usually the other way around with the dieversity quotas.

Trial and error has made me turned Nemesis off and the creatures down because it becomes frustrating bullshit most of the time. They're still everywhere and in large numbers but this way it's tough, but fun and doable.

I suppose it could work. The character has to accomplish specific goals to move the story along and each time you accomplish said task you're taken to another area of the city, so something akin to the original RE3.

Open world zombie games have been done, Dying Light, State of Decay, Dead Rising, ect., Two major problem off the top of my head for an open world RE game would be; where would this take place, and what gimmick does it have to make it distinct?

The series needs an enema. For as goofy and weird as the Revelations series was, I'd take that over the bullshit in RE8.

RE7 has grown on me, but they really jumped the shark with the sequel with the whole storybook theme bullshit and stupid monsters top to bottom.

re7 has higher highs and lower lows than 8, its way too short, doesnt have a final boss and everything after the third jack fight is terrible which is basically the 2nd half of the game. It makes up for this a little bit with all its bonus content but the thing about survival horror games is that they test long term resource management so having the game separated into 3-5 chunks and mini games doesnt show off the mechanics well. 7 gives way too many resources for a third act that has no proper ending.

RE8 is a much more consistent game the doll house shouldve been a more traditional level though for the same reasons stated above, it doesnt have anything to do with resources, and its static so its just boring on repeat playthroughs. But at least its not the back half of the entire game.
