Yep. In DMC4 when Agnus starts whining about how he possibly could have lost against Dante Dante just goes "Easy. You abandoned your humanity."
he says the same to urizen mid fight in 5, his secret taunt for beating bloody palace he says "what you lack, is THIS" and he draws out a heart with his summoned swords after beating vergil. Its also the only real coherent theme in 1, sparda is a demon who awakens to justice and is able to feel love for a woman, dante only survives because his human half makes him save trish because she looks like his mother and in turn trish saves him for the kindness he spared. Its also why arkham and vergil both lose in 3. Hell its the title, the whole motif of a devil shedding tears is a devil having emotion for another.

The context of sub-human was pretty clear on whats going on in Dante's mind. He's gotten to the point he feels so powerful, that he is losing himself (his humanity) that he needs to constantly check himself so he dosent go crazy and destroy everything around him. "Sub-Human" is Dante not feeling like he belongs anywhere and a outcast were humans fear him and the demons hate him. Him being whacky pizza guy is just a cope to hid the depression his going through.

still his weakest battle theme.

Nice to see another Vendetta enjoyer.
The music in the first DMC is also incredibly atmospheric and cool, thanks to the hiring of RE2 Composer Masami Ueda--and the boss themes, like the one against Griffon, are metal as fuck.

It's funny how well that OST has aged despite having next to no vocal tracks, whereas the later games became obsessed with screamo themes, and left a lot of the in-game background OST to wallow in forgettable dreck. I barely even remember the background themes from DMC3-5.
I don't think that applies to all vocal themes. Heroes Never Die is still a banger.

It's funny, because I've heard this character read of Dante parroted within the fandom for years, but I've never found any sort of evidence within the actual games that supports this.

Especially if you read any of the interviews with scenario writer Bingo Morihashi, who's an open book on the motivations of all the characters of the series, but never once expounds on Dante's internal psyche even once, despite willing to talk paragraphs of the same about characters like Vergil and Nero. In fact, I recall one interview with Morihashi saying that he has a much easier time writing Nero as a character, since he's a fuller, more three-dimensional character with a lot more at stake and a lot more growing to do, and that he'd essentially struggled to write Dante in every game past the third one.

in dmc2 dante is written to be depressed because he killed vergil in 1 of course 2 was retconned until 5 decided it was canon again so who cares. As for him feeling like an outcast it makes no sense dante has plenty of friends, human, demon and hybrid and I havent heard or read anything suggesting it either. So sub-human is shit music by a band that never should be allowed to write songs for the series and thats cope.

Fans think about characters a lot more than the actual writers do, is what that boils down to a lot of the time, unfortunately.

Is he? I don't recall seeing anything even vaguely alluding to that in the game--in dialogue, the games manual, any interviews, whatever. Is it in an in-game readable data entry, or something?

I ask, because outside of Trish being playable in Bloody Palace, I don't remember any direct narrative callbacks to the first game's events at all.

I totally get that--especially with a series filled with such paper-thin and anemic characterizations as Devil May Cry. I only bring all of this up because fans will write literal novellas debating and itemizing on the narrative attributes of the series--particular on places like the Devil May Cry Forums or Devil's Lair (if you even remember that site), and I find that the overwhelming majority is people projecting their headcanon on the events of the games, and treating it like gospel.

For instance, I saw someone writing a spiel about how DMC5 was a "betrayal" of the series' canon, and how apparently the game ruined Dante's character or something, and he cited that exact chestnut of "he's super depressed, but he hides his trauma underneath being joyful and laid-back and wacky all the time", as a means of critiquing story decisions he didn't like in the new game. And I'm just reading this shit, like: "Where was ANY of this characterization in the actual games?" I've literally seen this exact "trauma" read of Dante's character bandied about for years, and I'm almost 99% sure it's just someone's head-canon that the entire fanbase decided to roll with as certified fact, despite there being absolutely NO EVIDENCE of it in the actual games. It's not in the readable lore entries, the novels or manga, the artbooks, or bolstered by any statements made by any of the development staff.

Again, I sympathize with people overthinking the barebones narrative elements in the stuff they like, but I legitimately see DMC fans lecture each other on "what's true to the characters", and just pull unsubstantiated headcanon nonsense right out of their ass.

:wow: forgot this is the resident evil thread for a second.

Anyone have a good Resident Evil 0 speedrun? I am in a mood for one, but I watched one that put a bad taste in my mouth
This Keffals look alike is about as boring and lacking in charisma as him, he doesn't talk about his strats/the game as much as he is just talking with his chat about the most boring shit known to mankind. It sounds more like a spoken discord chatroom than anything, which I guess is about right for modern day streamer niggers. I was interested in seeing how a RE game where you have to control two characters would look in a speedrun, what I got was him talking about how WHACKY he is for spending money on two shitty games he doesn't want to play, but he WILL play them because making videos on games is his job. Classy, why even bother putting out this garbage if it's something that clearly nobody will enjoy watching that wasn't there for the stream? Oh wait, that's how he makes his money, never mind. If anyone has any good RE Speedrun recommendations, I will take something other than RE0 as well, anything is better than this.

Speaking of which, I have been getting the itch to play the games again...but I have been playing Dead Rising recently as well, so the idea of not killing every single zombie I see, with my bare hands if need be, just seems silly, so the proper Survival-Horror titles are out. Maybe I will play RE4 or RE5 when I get the chance, I want to try out the HD mod for 4.

After playing RE3RE again (because first time, I took my sweet time), I notice more and more things that I did not like about it.
One of them, is that you don't have any defense weapons such as in RE2RE. You can't shove a handgreande into a zombie face anymore no no no. You just smashed the x button to get out of it and you will always get hurt. Super annoying.
The knife is also next to useless now. Super weak shit.
I still like it, but come on!
Well, I have now ordered RE4RE so let see how it stack up.

Because they gave us that cuck version of the emergency dodge. I prefer when it looked like Ultra Instinct.

I'd say emulate Dead Rising in the Wii. It's a fun little experience. It won't replace the actual game, but there's definitely something there worth looking at.

I'm struggling to find it but I know its written somewhere, maybe it was the japanese manual or a novelization of 1-3 (which makes it a retcon anyway)

Also you can play trish in any mode provided you've beaten that campaign on hard. She uses dmc1 dante' moveset and her DT has sunglasses which was a reused idea in 4SE. Its honestly baffling how feature complete that unlockable is when the game is so garbage.

The first DMC specifically the castle has an almost gothic horror vibe which makes sense since it was a Resident Evil game originally. I like the new DMC games but the art direction is so fucking generic, it could be Ninja Gaiden or any action game.
