The site is being wonky so I can’t quote my old post, but my copy of RE4 remake arrived earlier than I expected so I’m just going in on it without replaying 2 or 3.

It’s a much different game from the RE2 remake, but it’s not as bad as I expected and I’ve officially passed the point where I got stuck on the original on PS2(the giant fight in the quarry) 15+ years ago.

I actually started the HD remaster before the remake arrived and I think my biggest issue with the original was just the controls, I only made it as far as the first typewriter before giving up and putting it down. The remake though solves that and controlling Leon feels so much more fluid compared to the pseudo-tank controls of the original.

I’m at the castle now and think I might have a chance at actually finishing the game for the first time.

The first DMC specifically the castle has an almost gothic horror vibe which makes sense since it was a Resident Evil game originally. I like the new DMC games but the art direction is so fucking generic, it could be Ninja Gaiden or any action game.
I can forgive DMC2 for having bland as fuck backgrounds because the development of that game was troubled and rush. What I can't forgive is the lack of memorable environments in DMC3. The interior of that game's tower is the most bogstandard brown-and-grey, nonmemorable environments I've ever beheld--just a downgrade from Mundus' Castle in every way.

DMC4 was slightly better, because the Renaissance Style architectural design for Fortuna City and the Ice Castle made for some pretty lavish and stunning backgrounds--a bit brighter and erring on the Final Fantasy side of things than the gothic stylings of the original, perhaps, but still very fun to traverse through and drink in visually.

Then DMC5 comes out, and despite having the RE Engine at their disposal, the devs opt for the greyest and blandest environments to date. The streets of Redgrave City look like interchangeable, butt-ugly generic background fodder from something like Tom Clancy's The Division, or some Call of Duty snoozefest. I literally have no idea what they were going for with the bulk of the city levels, and that's whenever the game wasn't assaulting you with levels set in the Qlipoth tree---the inner workings of which, while otherworldly to an appreciable degree, lack any and all variety, and become an exercise in tedium as you revisit those kinds of environments 80+ times across the campaign. it just boggles the mind how Capcom's devs have completely lost the skill for environmental design.

And what's even more painful is that in Resident Evil Village, which only came out a few years later, you have Castle Dimitrescu, which was utterly jawdropping with how intricate and atmospheric it was. I still replay that game just to drink in how lush and detailed the environments in that game was, and it really evokes the same gothic feel of Mundus' Castle.

Just the thought of DMC5 have something even close to that as an explorable environment is enough to make the soul weep for what could have been.

You haven't finished re4?? What are you doing with your life... Its a much better game play that instead.

Just an FYI, the essential dev files for RE Mercenaries have been deleted from Internet Archive.

If anyone still wants them, use the magnet link below:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:444caca000e545b268688bf3ec735eb630ead960&dn=essential-dev-files-Mercenaries

I recommend saving it for the future, just in case the link expires, or you just want it archived for yourself.

capcom wants to make sure the ugg0 version of jill will be remembered for decades bwahahaha
It's weird how much better her character is In the recent animated movie. It's like her look and attitude actually fit an older Jill better. She's not a raging asshole either.
He's had this weird fascination with giving characters psychic powers through viruses. Alexia's weird fire abilities, the original concept for RE4 had the main character Tony Redgrave would have super human and psychic abilities due to the virus, Sherry originally was suppose to have psychic abilities from the G-virus, the plagas mind control abilities in RE4.

These are the ones that I remember off the top of my head.
Honestly putting a little metal gear in RE sounds fun

I'm struggling to find it but I know its written somewhere, maybe it was the japanese manual or a novelization of 1-3 (which makes it a retcon anyway)

Also you can play trish in any mode provided you've beaten that campaign on hard. She uses dmc1 dante' moveset and her DT has sunglasses which was a reused idea in 4SE. Its honestly baffling how feature complete that unlockable is when the game is so garbage.
My understanding for the longest time was that the novel for DMC 2 had Dante go to another dimension and fight an alt evil Trish and have to kill her. He was his normal self up until then.

I cannot unsee Christian Redfield Chandler
"YOU NEED TO CONTINUE THE CHANDLER BLOODLINE, LEON! WHY AREN'T YOU FUCKING MY MOTHER?"
Honestly putting a little metal gear in RE sounds fun
Only if Platinum does it, not Kojima. That man lost the plot a long time ago. "Finally! A weapon to surpass Metal Nemesis!"

Imagine it Kiwis, a Mistral/Lady D crossover for maximum horny.

I'm playing revelations 2 and I'm having a hard time getting used to Claire's face. It's so weird looking.

Game is pretty fun so far though.

I’m trying to play RE6 on the cloud streaming emulator shit on ps5. I really don’t know how anyone enjoys this game it’s a snooze fest so far.
I rarely use "the game is too long" as a complaint; but RE6 is one of those games, especially as some bosses just seem to be damage sinks. The game is polite enough to let you never run out; but they'll also drain your reserves when a boss is on the scene.

No lie;
Get through Leon's Campaign; wow, that was... something.
Get through Chris's Campaign; okay... that was... something...
Get through Jake's Campaign; it's finally ov... *Ada's campaign unlocked* Oh for fuck's sakes...

Finished RE4RE the other day.
I remember I tried playing the OG back in the days (the controls just felt so akward back then) and gave up on it.
This game, I finished and I really enjoyed it. I do miss more of Leons chad moments that he had in og RE4, which was way more campy.
The combat is really fun ( I do however, hate that my knifes breaks all the time ;() and Red 9 ruled supremed.
I will play it again, but this time with blacktail as my main pistol.

I’m gonna try to but i went back to 5 and 4 just to wash the taste out of my mouth. And you’re not wrong at all the bosses and some enemies are pure bullet/explosive sponges that take fucking forever to kill it’s beyond annoying

I'd say emulate Dead Rising in the Wii. It's a fun little experience. It won't replace the actual game, but there's definitely something there worth looking at.
Unfortunately, I'm in the camp of "I played the Xbox release first so the Wii game looks like a joke to me".
It might be an impressive RE4 mod but a very poor Dead Rising title. I think of it more as a better Dead Rising Mobile, which was an Iphone game that was also a reskinned RE4, except somehow jankier and with less substance than CTYD.
I got my plate full right now, but I am thinking of going thru RE4 again. Shame nobody actually released brand new weapon mods over the years, just reskins of guns,. That would definitely add some replayability.
I'm either going to replay RE4 or play Mercs. I only completed it on the mobile version of the game(underrated btw), what are some best iterations of that mode?
