The remakes are so tiresome. I'd take my chances with a REVELATIONS 3 or neat spinoff with a similar premise, like a game that finally fucking shows us what Carlos was up to during (any era they choose). Showing us the other characters would be nice. Make more linear games. Idk. I'd buy a gamecube style remake of 2 and 3 that includes cut content/ideas and additional art they did for the remakes and original. Its all I've ever really wanted in terms of remakes of RE after re2. We aren't getting that.

I was onboard with the remakes until they ruined Jill and then made that her "official" new characterization and design in the Death Island movie. Like no, fuck you dude, she was fine as she was. Nu Ashley and Wesker are cool tho

The series started sucking for me once they introduced the over-the-shoulder perspective during 4. 5 was whatever, and I skipped out on 6 completely. I played 7 up until the main character lost their hand, and just couldn't do it anymore because that singular moment was so horrifying. RE7 just isn't an RE game to me. The animated films definitely make up for what the series turned into. I'm surprised Billy Coen never made a reappearance. Outbreak #1 and #2 are great and those two games are probably the last time the series was enjoyable for me.

Those games need a proper remake with voice over chat. You can make them with "over the shoulder" camera but give us a sense of dread survivng the initial chaos of the outbreak. The 1st story of outbreak had such a great beginning

I'm like 95% sure RE6 will eventually be declared non canon.

It's just too messy in terms of wrapping up plot points, retconning previous lore, killing off important characters, and not leaving any room for sequels.

The game is canon but not canon where it matters.

For what counts when a game is canon when literally nothing about it is referenced outside of maybe timelines and flavor reference text? We are yet to see any character from it returning and even Sherry seems to be a canon void after RE6 despite seeming like she would become a major player afterwards. The C-Virus, The Families, Simmons among others are actively being avoided being brought up at all.

Make no mistake, the game is still canon and will likely always be but Capcom is making an active effort to make it non canon where it practically matters. Its literally the entry that nearly killed the whole franchise and Im very sure Capcom isnt in a hurry to make fans remember that great time in the franchise's history.

Honestly, Resident Evil, as a series, really seems to being written as they go
While true, the series up till CV was written with care that it didn't piss all over the plot up to that point. REmake didn't dismantle the original and just added to it. Zero is just nonsense and I feel it's easier to pretend it didn't happen. Everything from 4 onward tried to up the previous game with action slop.

I don't mind the new Wesker, I just don't think his voice fits given what we have been given previously with Douglas and Waugh.

Maybe he'll surprise me in the 5make.

While Jill is the worst of the remakes, the characterizations of Leon and Claire are ass too in 2make when you really put it side by side with the original.

The original poster disappeared but this is worth a watch. It really goes into 2make with a scalpel on why it's an overrated piece of shit and why Leon and Claire are terrible as well as all the characters. You really don't know how alien they are when you're seeing the same scene placed next to one another.

The only thing I fondly look at 2make is Leon's awesome redesign, Marvin, and the excellent RPD section. Other than that, it goes into the bin.

I think the only objectively improved characters in the remakes is Marvin by far, Carlos and Tyrell just not being a ballooned lipped jig that gets blown up.

Am I the only one that really doesn't care about the RE story/lore beyond seeing it as the wacky/B-movie foundation used to prop up the games? I'm not saying I don't enjoy them and want to ditch them, I just mean more in that it doesn't weigh heavily on me when considering how much the games are good or not compared to how much fun I have playing them. That said, I don't think it's a coincidence that the ones I hate have the shittiest stories of the bunch (CV, 0, 5, 6) but happy to admit the bad gameplay might be tainting whatever else is there too.

I just want more RE games and pray that Crapcom don't get too cocky and start fucking up again by getting cute after they just finished figuring out (mostly) how to make fun games again.

The series has always had a level of cheese. I think the last time I really cared about the plot was RE5 since it was a culmination of over a decade of games and a conclusion to the original team's story with Wesker "dying." I'm glad the series up to this point didn't do massive retcons like fucking Metal Gear did.

I just want games at this point that don't have intentional jank like 4make. Let my bullets go where I aim the gun without reticle pinching in. In b4 skill issue fag. The game is janked on purpose and feels like shit a lot of the time.

And no more fake gameplay segments like 3make where I just press up to win several times throughout the game.

I will disagree that CV has a bad story. I think it's got one of the better ones. I think RE1,2,CV all have great plots. RE3 is the weaker of that part of the series but that's not to say it's not my fav game of the series. Zero is fucking dogshit though. Billy and Rebecca barely speak to one another. There's long periods of just nothing happening. Tranny Sephiroth. The dumb fucking monsters etc. Why retards want a remake of a game that is FUBAR I'll never know. I will say CV needs a remake just because it feels like shit to play, even though it is a very responsive game with inputs. I've been messing with it lately and it does have that quickness RE3 has, but it just feels like shit for some reason. Fixed camera with camera movement is so gross.

The only real lore question I have is this: after someone like Krauser transforms his arm, can he transform it back? Could Simmons ever go back and work a desk job again?
The evil characters are all aha! Look at this shit! *fuses to wall in a cave, flails tentacles around*
What if they win? Would Excella be stuck being a gross tentacle plant that can't move around?

The villians mostly go one winged angel after all other attempts to kill the protagonist have failed and they're cornered.

It's a last resort suicide strike kind of thing. Like rushing someone with a grenade.

I'm guessing because they think a remake will fix the major problems and everybody will then see what what RE0 was meant to be.

It almost feels like Claire is moving on ice or something.

Not allowing you to walk up and down the stairs was a dumb move on Capcom's part and I have no idea why they made it that way.

Oh, and when she's turning in place she doesn't move. Not really a major thing, but something I always found it strangely off-putting.

Fixed camera with camera movement is so gross.
I give them credit for trying to do something new, but yeah, it just didn't really work.

The only thing that could be improved is the item management. Bring back boxes and stop making some weapons eat up two spaces. You would need to gut the entire game and start from scratch. I do like the music in Zero. I really don't like the idea that the lab accident at the mansion was done by the Queen. I like the idea that it was just an accident, or just never explained. Not everything needs an explanation. Something Kojima really needed to understand.

That's another thing not allowing transversing steps without going into a walking animation was a step backward. I fucking love you can do that in RE3. The only step animation I even recall was the one in the RPD.

I hate the two handed weapon thing where it'll aim between two enemies, which I don't think anyone ever really liked. It's not something I ever wanted to utilize.

CV btw has gotta have the worst shotgun of the series. Why they removed decaps seems very idiotic. Only for the next game (RE4) to have some of the best head explosions in the series.

It feels very Dino Crisis.

I think Jap business culture of not communicating between the RE3 and CV teams while they were in development is the reason why CV feels like such a step back. Why they didn't incorporate RE3's perfect gameplay enhancements into CVX when they had the chance I don't understand.

RE3's perfect gameplay
There isn't a tank controlled game in the series that feels as good as that. Everything is hyper responsive. Raising and lowering the pistol. Quick turns. Run speed. Everything is flawless. And I've always hated the dodge system because I couldn't get it to work. But more recently I'm bringing dodges out at will and it really helps with Nemesis, especially on Arrange mode where you have less health and he has more.

Just the fact you can push zombies away instead of being stunlocked when you're surrounded is a game changer. I enjoy upping the enemy count when playing randomised and you can really tell how clunky the others are in comparison.

I do love the RNG aspect of the game with alternating item placements. It's also a very different RE that the magnum is pretty useless compared to the grenade launcher.

Yeah but at that point "I surrender, please arrest me" seems like the better option for some of the characters that are seeking money and power instead of being pure fleshy death world cultists. STARS etc. aren't the Hunk type that would execute them if they surrendered.
