IIRC Crowbcat also made a video shitting on some of the RE4 cuts and changes which didn't really need to be made, video was titled something like "soul vs. soulless" and of course modern RE fanboys were sperging the fuck out in the comments. Capcom seems to have an extremely dedicated base of ballwashers who will defend ANY old slop that falls out of their asses - sort of reminds me of Kojima in a way.
I just looked at the video, and even the old comments are mostly agreeing that the OG is best, and that the art and sound design are sorely missing in the remakes.

To be fair, its true of all of them. I always say the 3remake is the best of the remakes because its the least downgrade when compared to what its remaking. The 1 remake is a solid 9, but the OG is a 10. 2 remake is an 8, but the OG is a 10. 3 remake is a 7, but the OG is an 8, so its the least bad remake, although the remakes are good games, they are not on par with the originals. The music and sounds in general are really bad, I dont like them at all. They are so generic and have little unique aspects, until they directly crib from the originals. The 4 remake is a very good game, but the original is an amazing game. Thats the problem when Resi, and silent hill to be fair, they are remaking perfect or near perfect games, and they are doing it with people who have no vision or guts to see a vision, its just pressed out and sold on to the fans. The 1 and 5 remakes, and they will happen, are going to just be the same affair again.

I so want them to remake 1, just for the sheer absurdity of remaking a game that has already had an upgrade (directors cut), remake (gamecube) and then hopefully another one which will be ok because its ripping on something amazing, but it will be lesser to some degree.

Being a Wesker nut (yeah, imagine that) I wasn't crazy about Jake. Didn't hate him either. I guess his buzz cut and scar I thought was very dull. Although I get why they didn't just make him a carbon copy. But he's pretty much 1:1 with Wesker's face.

I'm playing REmake for the first time (on medium as Jill). I played the original a couple of times over 10 years ago but have forgotten pretty much everything except the plot and the iconic VA.

I wanted to check if the cutscene was still there when you attempt to leave immediately, the dog then killed me and my wife called me a dumbass. I've got the first octagon piece from the coffin now, placed it in the gate and got lost for another 30 minutes before realising maybe it needs to go in that carving that says "Defiler of the coffin" first.

As far as remakes go I'm really liking it (though I do usually like remakes anyway), but it's very fresh yet also faithful.

I just hope we can find Chris and Wesker

Edit: Without spoiling much, how do I save both characters again? I could look it up but this is more fun.

You would think Wesker is the kind of guy that would only love himself like a total narcissist.
he doesn't talk with "me" alot, he isn't a narcissist, Wesker is actually a man who was completely lost without any sort of endgoal till quite literally Spencer told him he was made to be some sort of demi-god so that he could make Spencer Immortal.

he decided out of spite that he'd make himself and the few worthy in the world Gods instead

For one character you'll be presented with a choice at one point, and the correct one is fairly obvious. The other character you basically do what you had to in the original game to save them.

So here's a 12-minute gameplay showcase, and it generally seems like RE9 is just a combination of RE2R, RE4R and RE7/8.

You have your RE2R-esque Grace sections, but now with RE4R "stealth", then there's the more action-oriented Leon sections inspired by RE4R, you are able to switch between first- and third-person like in RE8.

I assume the big monsters are the chasers, Grace will have to evade them and Leon will be killing them.

Otherwise, it just looks like more of the same, though I am unsure how it will all mesh together. I also assume you'll be playing Grace and Leon parts sequentially ala Revelations or RE6. Grace's parts seem to be far less engaging from a gameplay perspective, since you'll probably be able to sneak around as Leon too, but will also have access to parrying and all his melee moves.

Leon letting the nurse get killed is really stupid, there so many other ways they could have framed that whole sequence to not make him look like an idiot or just callous.

I think the hospital location looks very generic, almost reminds me of the police station in RE2R, which is lame considering all the other games it's drawing inspiration from had much more unique locales. Hopefully we actually do get to explore more of the post-nuke Racoon City.

So when playing as Grace you constantly have to walk around shuddering with fear with her making annoying scared noises the entire time. I thought she was an FBI agent? She's terrified of even her own shadow. Seems legit.
And with Leon there's still the annoying reticle aim mechanism that wobbles around everywhere like you're constantly drunk, to make the gun play more difficult than it should be?
Gotta be honest, I'm not feeling it with this one.
Bring back true survival horror and not scared little wahmen simulators Capcom

My prediction is that most players will find Leon's sections a lot more fun than Grace's and that will lead to people wondering why we didn't just get RE4 2 instead of the hybrid approach that most people found generally unsatisfying in RE8.

Capcom really needs to pick a lane.

I guess it will really depend on whether there's something unique about her sections. Maybe they'll have her focus more on exploration, puzzles and crafting?

Or maybe Grace is just a red-herring, her sections ending early on and the game fully switching to Leon?

Dunno, just seems weird to deliberately hobble one of the two main characters in terms of gameplay. RE2 did mix things up for Leon and Claire, but both were equally capable and shared all the same mechanics.
