People get a bit too caught up in the exact nature of the missile
No, they get caught up in the fact it's a high yield nuclear explosion and it annihilates most if not the entire grid of the city in the RE3 99 cutscene.

its completely over the top, but so is a Cajun punching Molden across the swamp.
I was going to make a post about how its one of the greatest things Capcom has ever released but I was beaten to the punch by Sopranos memes, unfortunately.

Literally just say it's high yield bombs, which destroy life but leave infrastructure.

almost 2 hours of this nonsense

Maybe we'll get some actually decent DLC that bumps the playtime up on this one a bit. Just worried it'll be more desperate, lazy asset re-use via sending a BRAND NEW CHARACTER through the same fucking locations again but remixed in a way that you'd forgive a solitary modder doing but shake your head at a giant corporation ripping off.

The Federal Government knew everything, Hunk is literally being sent to retreive the G-Virus on their behest, as Birkin was initially trying to defect to the Fed, but clearly cold feeted them, and they were done waiting.

They knew everything that was going on, it was, afterall, them being the main interest group in buying the B.O.W.'s, why do you think they blockaded the outskirts on like day 1 of the outbreak?

True. They knew quite a lot. Thats why they knew not to take any chances and just purge the city off the map and pin this on Umbrella later.
Who the fuck knows, RE9's plot is basic even by RE standards.

And pretty retcon-y with the apparent change of Spencer's nature and intentions all along and oh look, R.C is apparently still somewhat standing with another lab apparently hidden underneath the hidden lab.

Seriously, what the fuck...

I am not discarding Capcom doing some damage control and have a HUNK DLC where they show *GASP* He survived, guys! And he escaped because he is Mr Death yo! Buy it if you want HUNK surviving!

And Outbreak further reaffirmed the city was absolutely gone by showing the aftermath and it is all just a giant crater now.

I know some here REALLY want to give it an explanation but there isnt, Capcom is really banking on the remakes being the new continuity because the original one left no room for discussion that R.C was absolutely annihilated to the very last brick.

"Welcome to Retcon City" should be the game title. Taking out a Tyrant barehanded is some shit tier DMC fan service slop. Up till this point you couldn't kill one without ordinance. But he kills it... with an axe.
Well he needed ordinance as a rookie cop. The post re4 leon that pulls off double backflips at a moments notice to avoid saddler pitching steel beams at mach 2 isn't that guy. It was always implied that the new generation of BoWs was stronger, faster, smarter, better than the original shambling hoards. Thats why when enemy types do return you fight them in large quantities like how you fight 30 lickers at once in 5 or 50 hunters in revelations. He's a hulking mass but he's still slow and has a clear design flaw with the exposed heart. It's one of the ways the game benefits from it's nostalgic retread. We've been fighting tyrant tier monsters with our fists for a long time now.

Well that is definitely true, they changed the mechanism for it. They turned it into a missile bombardment instead of a singular missile.

But anyone who thinks this is anything less than a nuke, is a legitimate retard.

Even Aoyama thinks the city still existing is retarded.

honestly at this point I don't even know what bomb tech they have in this setting, I'm made to believe they had somewhat portable mega-rail cannon tech, ready on hand by 1998, among other wildly divergent history/tech shit.

The railgun in RE3 OG at least had some realism since it was big and clunky. The army came in to get the G virus and figured they were going to fight G virus monsters so they had that with them. They ended up killing the remaining five Mr. X's that were on that helicopter. Although IDK why the army and the X's converged at the factory.

You can actively SEE the buildings getting practically atomized into ashes.

Either way, the city/town/whatever shouldnt exist anymore.

And correct me if Im wrong but R.E 3 is the entry that demonstrated what happened to the city, right? RE2 just kind of ended with our leads escaping already out of the outskirts of the city so R.C's fate was kept unanswered until 3.

If so, he def. intended for R.C to be reduced to nothing, to sort of add to the tragedy brought on by Umbrella* and I am very sure it was commonly accepted that there just wasnt a city anymore until suddenly RE9 threw a wrench into it.

This is why I hate retcons unless they actually bring something good to the table

*I know someone might argue that the outbreak wasnt their fault, more like it was a mixture of Birkin going rogue and the team meant to get the G-Virus back failing to handle the situation properly (like, you know, double tapping William so there is no chance he might inject himself with something as a hail mary). But you know, they were the ones that made the virus and the lab so...nah, they are responsible, this is ultimately their mess.
Although IDK why the army and the X's converged at the factory.

Raccoon City always has been a treasure trove of environmental storytelling, which is why I actually like RE 3's setting a bit more than 2's, given how we actually get a proper look and experience of the city instead of just going deeper underground and boom, we have escaped. We do see some of the crumbling down of the city, which more often than not, is one of the more interesting parts of a zombie apocalypse.

Correct. RE2 is just the end of the lab really with the city still remaining, until RE3. That game just ties up the loose ends. You can't leave the city as it is without complete eradication.

RE3 is my favorite of the series. You got just enough of the city to get a feel for how it was structured, even though it's still pretty limited. The Dead Factory is such a good final area, and very relevant to the RC trilogy. Since it's where Umbrella was disposing of any biological evidence, poorly, but disposing of it. I believe one of the files even mentions they're doing a shit job and they're practically asking for an outbreak.
a Nuke wouldn't obliterate a City that size anyways, I dunno why you people think it would, it wouldn't.
A high enough yield would flatten the city, literally. I've seen enough nuke videos (since I've always been a nerd with nukes for some reason) and the OG RE3 ending has to have 20-100 kiloton explosion. The Japan nukes are pretty consistent with RC, but those are buildings from the 40s. But regardless, Aoyama intended for it to be a nuke erasing the city.

It swallowed the city in mushroom cloud.

If you completely mind wipe and take yourself back to playing RE1 for the first time, it's like masterful compared to how predictable and fucktarded the average RE plot is. Barry is a good red herring, you get different sides to the same story with the character select, the tone is grim with minimal tongue and cheek nonsense, and the flavor text is some of the best (itchy tasty).
