Came here just to come see the opinions about it on here to get an actual, non-retarded view of it. I haven't played Resident Evil 4 Remake yet, but it looks just like the other two remakes, so I wasn't too interested. Shame to see all the cut content.

OG 4 is one of those games that transcends time. Flawless game.
I do a playthrough every year. 4 remake is interesting in that I don't feel a need to replay it. I did it once on launch, and once a few weeks back to beat Adas story. I don't hate it, but there's some differences that I don't get. Playing in VR is amazing though, doubling up on the red 9 and blasting niggas? Amazing.
 
RE4 is not timeless. It has a bunch of issues and is very much "of it's time". RE4 remake felt terrible to play and whoever wanted parrying in RE should be shot.

It is a good idea to make this video after the hype/shilling has died down as the goyslop eating masses moved on to the next IP dick to suck as now the question is raised "Will the remake hold up as well as OG RE4?"

Crowbcat got a lot of shit for the original video and a lot of it was reactionary goys getting pissy and defensive over a piece of media made by people who in no way truly give a shit and fail the see the utter futility in remaking a game that is accepted by nearly the entire game community as a member of the top 10 best games ever made. It was like remaking gold with modern gold, even if it still shines, it just doesnt feel as "raw" and "pure" as the original.

Also the "WW2 vet still fighting years after the war's end" comments annoy the hell out of me, as if we cant still talk about anything from the last 3 years because it is just "so old and in the past, maaaan". Zoomers have such bad attention spans that their minds seem almost incapable of not living constantly in the present to an almost deranged degree.

This comment is pretty funny tho.

What would be some of the issues in your mind? I didn't grow up with a PS2 or a Gamecube, always have been a PC only guy. I didn't play Resident Evil 4 until 2019, and the only thing I dislike about it are the QTE events. Everything else from inventory management, art direction, how shooting feels, I fucking love and it's become one of my favorite games of all time, even though I didn't grow up with it.

I find the player movement to be clunky. At the time it was already stiff but the fixed spot combat doesn't work for me and how I play TPS. It's a weird mix between tank controls (which I like) and normal controls for TPS and I don't like the middle ground.

QTEs as you said. The knife fight is fucking stupid. Very memorable but stupid.

Krauser fight sucks. If I remember right you just abuse the knife to kill him.

The game is too long. The entire military bit you're just waiting for the game to end already. It becomes a slog there.

Ashley is annoying to deal with. Escort missions suck and they suck here.

I don't like adaptive difficulty. It really fucks up how the game plays. Either it's too easy or it's too hard with you having zero control of what you get. Enemies taking a random number of bullets to die because the difficulty adapts it. I'd rather a fixed game and I beat it or I don't.

There's a few other minor things but they're the major ones. I think RE4 is over hyped. I enjoyed it at release but going back to it now I find it difficult to engage with. The control system middle ground doesn't work for me. But if it does you I understand why you like it.

Parrying is a safety net mechanic, it's never necessary and is impossible to do consistently on professional. It's a crutch, if you have to parry you made a mistake.

Every tourist and every some "fans" were like "WOAH, SO COOL" but Im just like "Doesnt this mechanic trivializes most of the enemy attacks, given how it apparently can stop one hit kill moves like those from Dr Salvadore?"

And the answer is yes, it does and I absolutely hated the idea that Leon's knife can stop a chainsaw wielded by a physically enhanced Las Plagas host. It just sucks out of the tension because as long Leon has a knife (and he almost always has one), he will be able to "No U" attacks that should act as punishment for allowing the enemies getting too close. And I hate that people throw the "Oh, we have 'insert X' and you are drawing the line here? lol!"

Okay, I dont think I need to explain this but here it goes, retard. My suspension of disbelief can buy all the BOW shit because my mind has no familiarity with it, hell, it knows this doesnt and can never exist, thus it is far easier to buy the more out there elements of this series, especially since in this context, it is framed as a challenge to overcome in the video game. But my mind is familiar enough with how chainsaws and knives work that it knows that the idea of the latter stopping the former is absolutely retarded. There is also the fact that Dr Salvadore worked in the original because he, from a game design standpoint, forced the player to not camp and punish them for not moving. Take the village for example, you normally would have hidden inside the house and it does seem like the smart move, you have created a more "predictable" path for the enemies and they cant break through the door at least, right?

Wrong, Dr Salvadore comes in to immediately throw you a bucket of cold blood by destroying your defenses and forcing you to flee through a window. Oh, whats that? You got a shotgun and you have mastered the mechanics supposedly and do you think you can hold out? Oh look, you have accidentally cornered yourself because you didnt realize how tanky this mf is and oh, thats your head hitting the ground after getting chopped off horrifyingly and brutally fast, blowing your little kid mind at the violence and smart gameplay design

What have we learned? This game "adapts" to your strategies with "mini-boss" enemies that can tank way more damage, break through your defenses AND can usually one hit kill you.

So next time you do the smart thing and immediately flee out of the house upon Dr Salvadore's arrival, forcing you out into the open where at least you have way more freedom of movement.

You can kill Dr Salvadore but it requires careful planning and a proper understanding of the mechanics, so he is challenging but you are rewarded for playing it smarter and not harder.

And what we have in the remake? Oh no, you got cornered! Its ov- knife parry! Oh look, Im about to be attacked by Regenera- knife parry! Oh no, one of those wolverine gu- KNIFE PARRY (seriously, how the fuck some of those even work?!). Leon is a badass for sure but I think the remake, while trying to be more comparatively grounded, makes him more superhuman? Which they have doubled down in RE9 but thats besides the point. OG Leon's priority was keeping his distance and only allowing enemies to get close when he knew he had an open shot to a round kick or suplex, otherwise getting damaged/killed was a predictable conclusion. Remake Leon seems to be far more "adaptable" but I dont think it is a good thing in this case because the game was still built for you, the player, to have still somewhat limited options on how to approach danger. There is no "risk vs reward" approaches with the enemies, showing that even in this action format, you still needed to adapt to the limitations, no, now Leon can do anything and the player doesnt need to play smarter, only harder.

I really think they wanted to give an equivalent to RE2 remake's zombie knife stab mechanic, basically a last ditch to avoid damage but it just doesnt work in the more action-fied setting of RE4.
