I'll say this. Compared to the original source material, the remake does look and feel weaker, even from its derivative Resident Evil remakes and current formula.

SURE, you can argue that, compared to the fact that at least Chris and Sheeva should be dead from toxic volcanic fumes, the boulder punching isnt that farfetched and yet that is what is brought up the most in discussion and why that is? Because things like the fumes or the 20 hours of sustained combat are things that can be attributed to "because game", they are foreground elements that the gameplay and setting do not bring attention to it.

The boulder punching and knife parry ARE in the forefront however, they are a game mechanic you are forced to engage yourself in. Thus you are a participant of the act and thus you are a personal investment in how that works. Thus fans legit ask how the fuck does that work because we, as human beings, know that punching a solid rock will break your fucking fingers, the same way blocking big heavy objects with a basic knife is absurd.

My biggest problem with the knife parry is it's divorced from the actual gameplay. (shooting)
if the parry required you to stagger an enemy with a headshot or knee just before/during a wind up it'd feel more interactive and make you REALLY Pay attention to enemies.
but this is assuming the game didn't have weapon sway and your shots always hit where you aimed at. and enemies reliably reacted to headshots

it's the same with why the round house kick feels so good, you have to stagger them with the gun first, it makes the gun feel like it has options

Every tourist and every some "fans" were like "WOAH, SO COOL" but Im just like "Doesnt this mechanic trivializes most of the enemy attacks, given how it apparently can stop one hit kill moves like those from Dr Salvadore?"

And the answer is yes, it does and I absolutely hated the idea that Leon's knife can stop a chainsaw wielded by a physically enhanced Las Plagas host. It just sucks out of the tension because as long Leon has a knife (and he almost always has one), he will be able to "No U" attacks that should act as punishment for allowing the enemies getting too close. And I hate that people throw the "Oh, we have 'insert X' and you are drawing the line here? lol!"

Well you don't want to parry the chainsaw since it immediately breaks your knife which you want for finishing off transforming enemies and as a very strong followup against brutes after a wall-splat. It's also probably to compensate the inferior movement of the remake, I can't even blame the awful randomized movement of 7th gen and onward games this time around, re4make just has some awful unresponsive movement, there's no way to inch your position because for some reason Leon can't just inch his foot a bit.

The knife chainsaw parry is fine. It gives you some leeway out of an instant death exactly once, whilst punishing you by depriving you of your parry for the rest of the fight.
I also don't see how the parry is "divorced from the actual gameplay". Its just another part of the gameplay. You now have an option to counter rushing enemies that isn't just repositioning and have another way to respond to projectiles that isn't point shooting. Its fine, it compliments the game well, and if you can buy into Leon WWE suplexing and roundhousing ganados you should be able to buy into a knife holding off a chainsaw for a few seconds.
and how does the knife parry remove "risk vs. reward"? You still have to time the parry, otherwise you eat shit, and even then its not a guaranteed safe move since a ganado can just immediately go for another attack that you then have to parry or eat shit on.
I've never been the biggest fan of action RE but RE4R at least made it interesting enough for multiple playthroughs. I've still yet to go back to the original RE4 for another playthrough since between the QTEs, the stiff aiming (seriously why the FUCK can't I adjust the sensitivity on aiming you cocksuckers), and some dogshit sections of the game, I just wasn't enthralled.

The worst thing about the game section on the farms is it's full of the worst fanboys who act like it's Reddit. So decent people leave the threads because they don't want to deal with utter retards.

Do you know what happens if you try to parry a chainsaw with a knife? You get your fingers cut off. People melee fighting don't use stock animations, they move, feint and adjust the angle of their strikes.

Leon is not a super hero. He is not parry man the worlds best parrier who runs around melting everything with super karate moves and his ungodly strength. Remake 4 doesn't work because Capcom don't know who Leon is any more. RE4 has some silliness but Leon never felt like he was an unstoppable God who could take down the world with a knife. It's like they took the glitch from RE 2 remake's knife and decided this was now the canon character. Leon uses a melee weapon to take down bio weapons twice his size because.. he just does okay? He's trained enough so he can now tank a 10 foot guy with a meat claw bigger than he is and counter with a marvel quip.

Modern Leon is tedious to play as. Playing the remakes more than once is painfully bland because there's nothing likeable about the cast. The gameplay is long past stale and there's not even a story worth following any more. Resident evil has developed the exact same problem that Dark souls has and the fanboys don't want to admit it. If you want to be a generic action game, why wouldn't I just play a better action game? There's no longer any horror in RE, so I can play a better horror game that doesn't derail into stupid set pieces and kung fu fighting meat blobs covered in eyes. If I want to play a good action game I can just go play DMC. If I want a good shooter why would I pick ANY of these RE games? They all play the same, none of them are very good at being shooters.

So why would I ever pick to play a RE game except that it has RE as the name? There hasn't been a reason to play RE since 7. Maybe Remake 2 if you want the chaser gameplay but that's done better in other games too, so maybe not there.

It's generic, soulless slop pushed out yearly for a market buying on brand and to be part of "an event". And that's it. The same way Elden Ring sold more than anything else but completely lost it's way. Modern faggots will buy any slop and consume it. Happy to be part of consuming with no question of the quality or enjoyability of what they play. As long as there's bread and circuses they will consume until they choke on it and die.
