can you elaborate? the only criticism i've seen thrown at RE6 is that it's such a farcry from what makes RE, RE. but i'd love to get the full picture
This is my favorite video on the subject

it's very fair to the game explaining why people do and dont like it and goes over everything about the game and how it was made in detail. you want the full picture you got it. spoiler: it's still really bad, in many many ways, but not quite as bad as people say it is. like a lot of things that are famously bad. you're not missing anything if you skip RE6 though. hell I'd recommend pretty much every spinoff over this. the Wii light gun games are surprisingly great. more involved than the average light gun game, and with loads of content and shit to find. revelations aint bad either. I wanna say one of the old light gun games is good too but idk which one.

I had a lot of fun with Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii. I think people like Darkside Chronicles more but I only really played the bit with Leon and Krauser in the village and it seemed fine as well. There was plenty to unlock in UC and a decent amount of stages for most of the games in it, each of them had files and stuff hidden throughout the levels. I think there were two original levels that are supposed to be the takedown of umbrella as Chris and Jill, and then one as Wesker in a lab fighting two super tyrants.

I loved Resident Evil, played most of the way through Veronica and that PS2 title with the Beretta on the cover and various stand alone chapters (?), but I haven't played one of these games in years.

Are there any Resident Evil games that are still about surviving in a mansion / exploration similar to the first game?

I've been thinking about picking up the HD Resident Evil 4 on the Xbox One, is it worth playing or are the old style controls too frustrating? "

For reference, I preferred the Metal Gear style control to the Resident Evil.

Double post, but I cant edit.
7 is the only game after 1 about surviving in a mansion(a plantation house in this case). As for playing RE4, its unironically one of the most influential modern games to date and still plays like a dream. Youll get over the 3d tank controls. If you havent played REmake2 obviously you also must get that.

That's the first Outbreak game you're talking about. RE4 feels its age a litte because of everything it inspired after it and how much refinement has gone into the genre since, but it is still really solid and controls are still pretty intuitive although I haven't played with a Xbone controller. I replayed it last year on PC and its certainly still great.

Resident Evil HD Remaster takes place in the Mansion, and if you've only played the PS1 version it gives the definitive experience for that. The mansion is expanded, as well as a new area and subplot that fits in excellently to the story. Control wise it still has tank controls, and as a more modern style control which is closer to standard 3D controls, there is still no moving while shooting in either. A fair amount of unlockable modes are in the game, as well as the PC version having randomizers (for rooms, enemies, and items with your choice of one or all.)

RE7 takes place in the south with you going to a dilapidated family property and evokes a lot of the feel of exploration from the first although it is more simplified/streamlined. Its first person but ammo and supplies are mostly a sparsity. There's a an okay amount of DLC that came out, with some being puzzle type games and others being more connected to the story and combat oriented. Its a little bit of an odd duck in the franchise but definitely a better move for the franchise.

REmake2 is kind of a blend of 4 and traditional elements from the series, in a more action oriented survival horror game.

Outbreak is it, I couldn't for the life of me remember that game, just the box.

I'm not opposed to more action oriented, but I do miss the old explore-the-mansion games of Resident Evil or really dating myself, Alone In The Dark.

One more question, is Resident Evil Origins Collection the same thing as Resident Evil HD? I can't seem to find the later for sale for the Xbox One.

On your first playthrough I feel like 2 can capture that, Hardcore mode also cuts down on your supplies and saving needs ink ribbons. Standard is a little too forgiving and they drown you in supplies.

The Origins collection is 0 and 1. 0 is a prequel that takes place on a train, and then a mansion with Rebecca and a guy named Billy. Its alright, never got too into it though. Get this one if you want the original mansion.

Always had mixed feelings over Resident evil Zero...

On one side, I have guilty pleasure with prequels, especially when they're done well and this game might be the prettiest the fixed camera angle REs ever got. Also it was neat to play Rebecca as an actual indepedent competent character. The also team work aspect was also unique, especially since its the only one where its done in the Fixed camera main games (its actually really fun once you have someone else to control the other character and not the AI)

On the other however, I always felt like RE Zero took some of the mystery that made RE 1 so frightening, with Rebecca being the SOLE survivor of the Bravo Team, I mean...it adds to the terror over what could have possibly wiped out a team of very well trained and skilled fighters. Also it doesnt help tht Zero Rebecca feels like a different character than RE 1 Rebecca...hell, RE 1 Rebecca is intimidated and possibly killed by HUNTER when at that point she slaughtered dozens of them, also do they ever explain where her guns went? It makes sense she never mentions Billy to not hinder his chances at starting over as a free man.

It also doesnt help that Rebecca never appears in any major role after this and RE 1, outside of small mentions of her in RE 2 and 3. She does appear on Mercenaries but I dont count those. Since Capcom brought Barry and Claire back both at once in Revelations 2, we know they arent above bringing old characters back (I know some people will say she appears in one of those CGI movies but outside of the first one, I never bothered with the rest and I always were in the crowd that considers them non canon).
I think a cool idea for 0 would have been to have the entire Bravo team be playable in their own contained segments or something with each of them showing their specialist capabilities. Show how the team got scattered and picked off. Have segments where you get to play as Forest with his grenade launcher and mow down monsters before he dies and have to switch to a more RE 1 friendly Rebecca who can't go toe to toe with hunters to add some tension.

I also wouldn't have minded if they brought Rebecca back but not as a playable character but as a supporting character where she has decided she doesn't need to follow in Chris's footsteps and can contribute by pursuing her medical career and becomes like the chief virologist of the BSAA or something. Like how Barry was just a combat adviser and only gets involved in Revelations 2 because it was a personal matter.

I seriously hope that after Capcom sees the numbers REmake 3 makes that they consider to make one final remake in this "trilogy" and that be Code Veronica.

I know some people will say it wouldnt make sense but I do consider CV to be the "fourth" entry in the main series, and the final game of the timeline to use the old fixed camera angles (remakes and prequels not counting). Not everyone knows much about its plot and I dare say its rather unique the way we see things starting to crumble with Umbrella after 2/3 tho not there yet. The stuff with the Ashfords is really unique and a remake could really make the tragic relationship of Claire and Steve have more weight and character. Oh and it will be a decent excuse to bring Wesker back and have him act like the cold masterpiece he used to be, only using his powers when necessary, instead of shouting "ChRis!!!!" and "UrOBoRus!" each five minutes. Tho hopefully they make him voiced by DC Douglas for consistency (I hate when voice actors get constantly changed, which is sadly a recurring issue with this series), Im sure he can pull off the classic Wesker emotionlessly focused voice.

Besides I just wished Capcom would just release the OG trilogy (plus Veronica) on steam so people can play the originals more easily.

You and me both. I don't like using emulators, so tracking down a copy of RE1: Director's Cut was harder than it should have been, even moreso since I had to track down the black labelled version which has the original soundtrack and not that butchered version everyone rightfully mocks. I found it, but it took some patience and digging on eBay before a copy showed up.

Really, the issue seems to be RE1 given that there are so many different versions of this one game, and there's not really a convenient way to figure out which minute differences exist in each version.

Ironically, outside of the PC version with mods, the "superior" version is said to be the freaking DS version. But seriously, while the remakes are great, we should have access to the OG trilogy to be able to properly compare to the remakes (especially since both OG and remake are great games either way)

There's mods for the old PC ports?
Actually yeah. You'd be surprised.

Edit: More context

By no means is it as huge as Fallout or Elder Scrolls, but they do have a pretty decent sized community. Mainly costume and music mods, so don't expect overhauls though, and be warned, the Remakes of 1 and 0 on PC are way more taxing than any right.

RE6 is not just bad as a Resident Evil game, it just isn't much fun to play on it's own, it feels at best totally generic, like a game you've played a million times before.

And at worst is just feels kinda janky with the shooting and dodging and the endless QTEs.

It's totally skippable, especially now that there's far better RE games that have been released.

I can take or leave a remake of Code Veronica actually, I feel like there's not as much to gain in remaking it as there is in remaking the PS1 games, it's already in fully 3D, not low res pre-rendered backgrounds.

But I wouldn't say no to one either.

RE 6 did have a decent soundtrack, I will admit. In fact, the "Survival Action trilogy" as I call 4-6 had pretty good themes. The main theme had some serious Dark Knight influences tho

Oh and this theme always gets me pumped up for some Mercenaries aka, steroid addicted army man hitting the local populace

Nice BONAHS

Aka, the theme where Chris punches a burning boulder.

Chris: EVERYONE BONE IN MY ARM IS BROKEN BUT THATS WHAT STEROIDS ARE THERE FOOOOOOR!!!!

Not too many played it since it was originally a Dreamcast exclusive (who had that idea, I dont know) and it was mostly a flop in sales but it did have plot important events like the return of Wesker and the stuff with Ashfords really showed that Umbrella's history went deeper than we could have imagined. it also helped to build up Spencer as the man who has started it all. And it concluded Claire's arc from RE 2 with her searching Chris (the downside was her pretty much fading from the franchise, with the exception of the first CG movie and Revelations 2). I just really think Capcom doesnt have much to lose and just what to gain. CV was pretty much a non numbered main entry game, overshadowed by its own exclusivity at first and by RE 4.

I regret never beating that game.

I ended up getting stuck in a place with low ammo and impossible to advance.

Reminds me of how DSP played ZombiU game a brain dead retard, eating up all ammo on single zombie encounters and then calling the game garbage when he was forced to use the bat to fight multiple zombies at once (the game is flawed but it does warn him constantly to use ammo only when absolutely necessary, which usually mean multiple zombie encounters, lone zombies should be reserved to the bat or not be bothered with at all). Of course the difference between you and him is that you can recognize your mistakes, Phil will never, EVER, admit his flaws and that he put himself in that situation. Pity, I wished ZombiU had a sequel on the Switch...its a legit good game with tecnical flaws Ubisoft never bothered with.
