So it's a good game. That's all I need. I wonder if there are going to be DLCs.

Also Nemesis was the same in the original wasn't he? You can't satisfy everyone. Hell, for some people Mr. X stalking you was either too much or not enough.

The writing was on the wall as soon as Resistance was included. I really hope they add some sort of single player DLC rather than try and justify everything with "Resistance will be the growing and evolving experience through the years" when it will be dead in 0-3 months.

Hopefully the harder difficulties do something different at some point too, different item or enemy placements ideally but I doubt it. 3 was never a huge game, but it had all of these little things that made it feel fleshed out and made each playthrough seem more dynamic.

I'm still thinking they knew that had a $39.99 game and a standalone multiplayer project they knew wouldn't sell so they lumped them together. Still looking forward to playing and seeing for myself though.

I think that's a generous assessment, but I'm paranoid and cynical enough to think they had a standalone asynchronous multiplayer project and when they revealed it to, at best, a tepid reaction they panicked and rushed to remake RE3 as quickly and cheaply as possible to attach to it to recoup costs.

Supposedly they just made him unkillable for this demo and you should be able to beat him up in the main game, though we don't know for sure yet.

Confirmed (sorta, you can down him for items, but I haven't heard of anyone perma-killing him for an area):

Next time I see him, I lob a frag grenade and he's stunned long enough to let me gain some distance. He also drops a supply case containing a weapon upgrade—a reward that also seems to be a clue from the developer you have to be more aggressive in dealing with this guy. I can shoot objects in the environment to slow the Nemesis down as well, including explosive barrels and generators that zap him with arcs of crackling electricity.

Nemesis is apparently hugely scripted, and big places are missing like the bell tower.

Ouch.

You're gonna be more disappointed by the enemies they've cut out.

They removed the giant spiders and the Grave Digger. i.e. The giant worm boss.

If you beat it on Hardcore mode, it unlocks Nightmare difficulty, which changes up the enemy and item placement. There's allegedly a fifth one above Nightmare called "Inferno" that ramps up the difficulty even further but I haven't seen anyone talking about it besides reddit.

I do agree that the game is rather lacking in replayability beyond two playthroughs (when I get around to playing this, I'll start on Hardcore, then again on nightmare), no way am I playing resistance, online play isn't my forte. Although, apparently you can complete ingame challenges that allow you to purchase weapons and items to enhance Jill's abilities and make subsequent playthroughs easier. Neither does it include the alternate endings, or decisions that change how certain parts of the story play out. I have mixed feelings on DLC. It's already sixty dollars, adding DLC to make it a little more complete would put it at around ninety dollars if we're including tax (assuming they make a season pass or deluxe edition to sell it all in a bundle). I'm not sure what they could add in either. Sure, they could package and sell the mercenaries mode as DLC, but considering it was free with the og RE3 it'd probably draw a fair bit of ire from people. The rumored new game plus mode would have added a fair bit to the replay value, but I haven't heard anything about it in the reviews so I'm not even sure if it exists. I'm hoping that future DLC is for the most part free like Not a Hero for RE7, but they're probably gonna sell most of it if they do make it.

There's a day one patch planned for RE3, but it just seems to take care of bugs. I'm still excited to play this, I just know that I'm getting into a re-imagining rather than a remake of Resident Evil 3.

The problem with Resistance is that it's a "poor man's Left 4 Dead" and not Resident Evil: Outbreak Remake. Resistance seems like the kind of minigame I would play if I beat Outbreak or its sequel, and even then, the cast of that game could have been incorporated into the main cast of Outbreak.

In regards to DLC, 2 handled it fine with Ghost Survivors being added for free and I imagine they would follow a similar approach. Resistance will probably be what they try to poach value out of, given the state of multiplayer games.

I hope Inferno replaces every enemy in the game with Nemesis

Gave REsistance a play... it seems kinda bad. Like it was a first time play and everyone seemed bad except the Mastermind who seemed to be able to drop a LOT of stuff on us. I have no idea if it's skewed to the Mastermind or if half my team was much worse than I was but...

It wasn't fun.

You just described a newbie's first experience with every asymetric horror game ever made. I ASSUME when RE3 launches there will be a tutorial.

I've got 51 minutes played on the beta according to steam, and 10 of that was in a single game. The other 41 was split between the maybe 10 minutes tutorial and waiting on matchmaking to work, all to get in a game where the mastermind was tethered on his phone in Africa since everyone's shots took 5 seconds to register damage. After another 15 in matchmaking my friend and I quit and just played Synthetik instead.

I wish I could make a judgement as to whether the gameplay part of resistance is good or bad, unfortunately the massive technical failures kind of left me unable to form an impression beyond this needs dedicated servers.

If I had the coding know-how or had friends who did, I'd love to make a Resident Evil fan game in the old-school style.
While not fan games, there have been a few throwback tank control horror games like Banned Memories, 1999 and Vaccine, but Benned Memories is vaporware and the other two completely missed the point. There were others I forget the name of, but they weren't great either.

Nemesis is apparently hugely scripted
I'm taking that with a pinch of salt. I heard repeatedly about how Mr X in RE2 remake was scripted or he teleported around despite lots of videos showing how he worked.

Changing topic, but what do Kiwi's think of Resident Evil 7? I gave it a pass at the time, and I'm wondering if it's worth playing.

See I thought people were exaggerating about Nemmys scripting, but a wide range of critics have talked about it. Leaves me worried.

RE7 is definitely worth playing, I was obsessed with it for a while. It's a superb transition to first person, and has some great villains. The last third falls over a bit, but that's about standard.

I won't lie, the news of the giant spiders being cut as they were from 2 is a bummer. I'm honestly starting to think someone on the Capcom dev team has arachnophobia.

Question: Do any of the original alt costumes appear? The ones you unlocked for completing the campaign with an A rank. I'm guessing they are going be future DLC, sadly.

Codes on GMG are going out. There is no Pre-Load on Steam, release is 5 PM GMT or 1 AM EDT and Resistance looks like its included on the download. Seems like a real nice "Fuck You" to PC.
