Since DLC for 8 is announced and we're all speculating:
At the very least
I want a VR patch so I can use my VR more since it worked pretty well in RE 7. Like I don't see why not y'know?

If we get Chris DLC
I'd be fine if it was like "what was Chris doing up until coming into Ethan's house" and included shit like what was Chris up to when Ethan's taking down the lords.

Obvious want more back story on the lords DLC is obvious.

My friend and I both agree an alternate non cannon ending where you chose to help Heisenberg would be really fucking cool NGL. Like dead ass I want to know what would happen if we said yes. I'm surprised that wasn't an option in RE 8 to begin with since in RE7 we had the Zoe or Mia choice, why couldn't we have had a "sure i'll help you Heisenberg" or a "fuck you magnito bitch" choice. 🤷‍♂️

My dream DLC is utter crack.
You know how weird the Jack's birthday DLC was in RE7?
Why not have a funny dlc where you play as Chris or Ethan and your running around taking care of Rose or something. Maybe you got to fight lycans or something while you grab baby bottles, or baby powder, or you peak-a-boo, rock her to sleep, or go on a scavenger hunt around the house or village to find stuff like teddy bears or something.

Other funny dream DLC in mind is A Duke DLC but it's just cooking mama thats it. Like it would either be like that, or the cooking mini game segments in KH3.
Or Duke lore would be cool.

My choices for RE8 DLC:

Blue Umbrella Happy Fun Time Adventures - I noticed that a lot of work went into the character models and guns for Chris' Blue Umbrella team, going so far as to give them individual codenames, specialties, etc. Would be cool to maybe have a campaign where while Ethan is tromping around, we play mini-campaigns as members of Team Hound Wolf.

Heisenberg's Story - Hobo Magneto easily stood out amongst the Four Lords for a number of reasons. One of which was because it was alluded he was dragged into this mess, same as Ethan was. I'd like to see his backstory expanded, how he got mixed into this, and maybe see if had to kill some older Lords to get into the spot we meet him in.

The Return of Joe Baker - It's time to do some cleanup, and the only man with the skills to succeed is Joe Baker! Give everyone's favorite Boxer from the Bayou a pair of Fuck-Off Power Punchers and let him loose, right hooking lycans and piledriving Soldats.

The main difference is they allowed her to be sexy, even showing her nude (at least in some versions of the first movie I guess) and that's why she's fundamentally more buyable as a character because a woman's beauty is part of a woman's "strength"
Oh yeah she showed a nipple in the first one and there is this whole conversation on the director's commentary if she was really committed she would show two nipples, and then she did in the next movie. Mila was downright giddy with the minor vag flash at the end to the point of "Watch for it, it's coming, there it is!"

And then she married the director and no more free-range Mila nipples in the Resident Evil movies. Director's commentaries can be hilarious.

Completely off-topic but if you ever get a chance to get a DVD copy of Cannibal the Musical (Trey Parker's student film) listen to the Director's commentary. I guess Trey was dating someone in the cast and she basically dumped him for being a loser. He gets drunk and is all "Who is worth millions now, bitch! I got the last laugh!" then they all get drunker, and fuck off for about a half-hour in the middle of the commentary, then come back and pick up as if nothing happened, three sheets to the wind. (The movie is good too if you like any of their other things).

Going off these tweets from Dusk Golem (who is a pretty legit source AFAIK) it seems they cut out a lot of promising content from Village. Some of it could end up being recycled for DLC - namely the stealth segments with Elena - but we’ll just have to wait and see.

If only Helena Bonham-Carter was this candid.

(I don't think it's any secret that Tim wants to be cucked by Johnny.)

Wow, that totally doesnt sound like a disaster in the making and kind of ruining what made the Raccoon City outbreak so impactful...It was the perfect example of bigger is better but in a good way. So having the outbreak WHILE having the mansion incident ruins the impact of both disasters.
The first RE movie seems like it was way more based on the second game more than anything, with only a few homages to the first game, from what I remember barely any time is spent in a mansion and a zombie is never seen in a mansion, some adaption of the first game (though I guess I could be remembering wrong)

When Capcom originally hired George Romero his script was directly based on the first game with STARS infiltrating the mansion, but then he did weird changes too like make Chris Redfield Native American because of the name "Redfield"

Exploring what Chris was up to during the events of 8 would be a good way to have more time spent with the lords and see more areas.

I haven't seen it yet but yeah, Cannibal the Musical's "drunk commentary" is infamous.

Penn Jillette actually did an entire movie where the gimmick was the director's commentary by an insane director who's holding the lead actress hostage.

Man, that sucks that so much stuff got cut, especially the stuff with Donna.

Here's hoping it does get used for DLC.

The Orgazmo commentary is equally great. The commentaries for those two films are night and day when you hear Matt and Trey do a South Park commentary and they sound like they want to die.

Oh shit! I have the unrated version here but things piled up and I never got around to it. I know what I'm doing tonight!

The commentary is on the NC-17 version but I know the DVD has both cuts.

BTW the NC-17 cut is better. The Unrated version has a few alternate and less funny takes.

Hmm. I'm going to have to have a look. I'm assuming you're in the States? Canada and the US are the same region for games and movies but we have different ratings. R in US is 14A here, and our R is NC-17 version so I'll have to see how it was handled here. Thanks for the heads up!

I need this in my life. Thank you for that information.
Unfortunately while I haven't seen the full movie the clips I have seen it looks super low budget, from what I understand Penn pitched the idea to producers but wound up having to rely on Kickstarter which didn't lead to a lot of money.

I don't know if the final movie is good, but what a great premise of course.

It was mostly based on the underground lab section of RE 1...even tho that was just 1/3 or less of the actual game...besides the lab in RE 1 was nowhere near as huge as its in the movies. Oh and a licker is there, there is your element from RE 2...honestly if one of the scientists became a G Virus monster, maybe I could see where you are coming from...at most, the only two things I get from RE 2 in the first movie is the licker and the fact that the climax takes place of a speeding train with a monster on it...but I swear, it almost feels like a coincidental similarity.

Besides, the sequel has this news paper implying Jill Valentine dealt with zombies before which ALSO implies that the events of the first game (or at least some sort of equivalent) did happen during the first movie at the surface...hence why she knew what they were and what to do against them. It almost feel like there is a movie missing between the first and second, like Jill was suppose to have this solo film first before Apocalypse was suppose to come out. If Apocalypse came out today, I could almost swear that they were setting up some sort of Jill solo film...it would still be an ass pull but it would confirm there is implied story that will be told. Oh and same news paper implies her partner died and that partner was called Leon...yeah...I know.

Then again we see him later this movie series so that newspaper is most likely not even canon since then (or never was).

Almost makes me glad George Romero isnt around anymore, Im sure he would have been a victim of the woke crowd sooner or later. I love his movies but the guy was a shameless in his social commentary at times. To be fair, I still would have prefered to see his vision for the movie come true in some sort of level, maybe a comic adaptation? Im surprised no one thought on doing that.

Trust me, George Romero's fans are glad he isn't around anymore.

It's a cautionary tale about how success can freeze you. He had one hit and never learned anything ever again.

Direct-to-DVD, Aslyum-tier garbage starring zombies as the hot button du jour.

Eh, the Romero script idea of "Chris Redfield is an Injun" was likely due to the fact that was a semi-common piece of fanon online back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

I'm not sure where it came from, maybe it was the name Redfield or maybe it came from the S.D Perry novels or even a popular early fanfic was the origin of it.

I'd say that was less of a case of "proto-woke" and more Romero did not know the difference between canon and fanon.

As I said before their intention was that the first movie was supposed to be the exact same world as the games, even if it doesn't make sense that's what they were going for at least, but they then ditched that idea for the sequel.

The simplest answer why it was more focused on a lab than mansion is the lab sets we're probably cheaper to build and/or film at than a fancy mansion, I want to say the majority of the underground scenes where filmed in subway tunnels in Berlin or something like that

I'm pretty sure his script is out there online to read, but I never read the whole thing myself, another weird idea I remember hearing about though that is each level of the mansion was supposed to contain a different monster, ie zombies on one level, hunters on another etc, instead of all of them just running around the entire mansion like in the game.

It's a shame because the dude definitely had talent beyond being "Mr Zombie" given how brilliant and clever the movie Martin is for one example.

I feel like the S.D Perry novels were big influences on the movie, I haven't read them but from what I know didn't an original one (ie not directly based on a game) involve a giant underground Umbrella facility before the first movie or anything like was in the games?

To be very fair, I will always love his GOOD movies, Night of the living dead, Dawn, Day especially...Land is a bit meh but I usually watch it when Im marathoning the Dead series....but its not one I usually watch at random unlike the other three.

Then Diary happened....oh....then Survival happened...oh man....and then he died. Its pretty sad....George really lost his touch with age and maybe not adapting his social commentary format into something more subtle for today's audience...tho in a way he just seemed to freaking fed up with his own genre in his last two zombie movies

It was also pretty common back then to have a hero or two be part injun. Which was a throwback to an even earlier time when it was fairly popular to do so.

I think I own the book in question? I'd have to look for it. I remember it was a green cover and I think it was about either Jill or Rebecca infiltraiting a lab or something like that.
I do have another one outside of that book, and the code veronica one.
For those curious, the code veronica probably came out the same time the dream cast one did because they describe Steve's hair as "Leonardo di caprio'esque" or something along those lines. I also vaguely remember something about 'Wesker's cat eyes" or something. The descriptions were pretty hilarious but i'd need to do a rereading for sure.
