I'm kinda curious to know what @Michael Wade would consider a bad RE. They can't all be home runs.
I lean more towards the action end of the spectrum and im a sucker for shooters, so I enjoy most of the RE4 influnced games. Although, most of the action RE games are not terribly scary aside from RE revelations 2. The old top down perspective doesn't really appeal to me, although I respect the scary aspect of seeing something pop out of a corner.
I tend to prefer first person horror, because its harder to be fully aware of your surroundings at all times and easier to be put out of your comfort zone.

Although ironically, out of all of them I think 7 really dropped the ball in terms of potential. It started out fucking fantastic and had a great villain that managed to be scary and hilarious at the same time. Unfortunately they took him out WAYYYY too early and the replacement villain's never really reached that same plateau of terror for me.

Ive played F.E.A.R and that shit for me was horror and action at it's fucking finest. When I heard they got a writer from F.E.A.R I was pretty excited, but the little girl in 7? Absolutely fucking pathetic compared to Alma. I was kinda hoping for something a little more fast and frantic if not action filled. Hopefully 8 is a better experience, as ive not had the money or blacklog free to play it.

Operation Raccoon City as well. The concept could've been good but that game was just godawful in its execution.

It wasn't worth 60 dollars for its length, but I remember enjoying Operation a bit with the somewhat balanced pre order weapons.

I was onboard with it, until Old Eveline turned into a generic RE cum monster.

That, right there, is Capcom falling into old habits.

I thought we would be stuck with cum monsters as long as we have the Mold (or whatever the fuck they call it in VIII) as the main virus thingy, but I was surprised with the enemy variaty in Village.

I know they're actually not that many and by the end of the game you get kinda tired of killing wolfmen, but that's still miles ahead of the sludge creatures of 7. Now you face a Sludge monster with CLAWS, now you face a sludge monster THAT IS FAT, now you face a sludge monster THAT IS GIGANTIC

So, Umbrella Chronicles kind of sucks and was a waste of time and money, you can't unlock all the scenarios without getting high scores on certain other scenarios which is some bullshit, I hate to leave the game unfinished, but I don't want to put the effort in to see the rest, none of the new content is interesting enough, it is kind of interesting how it tries to grandfather in a few elements from the Paul WS Anderson movies, but the light gun gameplay is more frustrating than fun and not at all a good fit for this series, it would have been a lot cooler if it was more traditional gameplay.

CV has a period-specific jankiness which people either love or hate.

For me, the graphics don't hold up as well as pre-rendered backgrounds. This is most noticable when backtracking. This is the same console generation as REmake?

I'm starting to see why CV needed a remake the most. Rockfort looks really uninspired. :stress:
CV is a real strange beast, at times it represents RE at it's best, the Ashfords are some of the best villains the series has had, that cutscene where you see Alfred and Alexia as kids while they pull a dragonfly's wings off, feed it to ants, turn to each other... and smile is so perfectly creepy, the Ashford private residence is also perfectly creepy, basically anything involving the Ashfords is what RE should be all about.

I feel like that's something the series has been missing is villains like the Ashfords or Brian Irons where they're simply psychos and not mutants, because after all, man is the scariest monster, is he not?

But it's overall not a great game because too much time is spent in generic industrial type areas that really get dull, there's a reason the other games tended to save those kind of locales for the end rather than most of the game and that part where you go through the training center again as Chris is pure filler and really a slog, there purely just to extend the game's length.

It'd be really cool to see a official remake.

So I just lost ~10 minutes of progress in RE2 (1998) because Sherry was in a a sewer pipe full of (I guess) bats and I got stunlocked to death. Fun. Is there a consistent way to get through there without getting ganked? Also whoever put that part in the game can sit on a fucking pitchfork.

And Steve, it would of been better if Steve weren't so whiny and dumb. And Canadian.

Best advice is to just straight book it to the other side and hammer the button to climb down. Don't try to get fancy and swerve all over the place, otherwise the bugs will just eat you.

Is RE4 on the Switch worth it? I'm thinking of picking it up.
It's portable RE4 HD, it's good.
I personaly think it's better for the switch then the PS4 just because of that, it's a GC/PS2 game running on a handheld, in it's current state for graphics it's fine but a higher resolution is not needed. For the rest it comes with everything all other versions have, but it would have been better if it had the option for pointer controlls like the Wii.
I also hear conflicting reports about the collection(the fysical version) having them, but i can't for the life of me find evidence of it.
If you get it digital don't be a sucker and pay full price for it, it's on sale almost all the time.

The new scenarios are so weird and out there it almost boarders on parody. That Wesker campaign where he goes up against two tecno dancer tyrants and Resident Evil's Volgin is something else man

Funny thing is Umbrella Chronicles is the good one.

Darkside Chronicles is all the worst parts of Umbrella and the gameplay is 10 times worse cuz the fucking camera never stops shaking. It feels like trying to aim at the screen while watching a Bourne movie, it's almost impossible to get headshots sometimes

I dunno. The hitboxes in Darkside Chronicles felt bigger than in Umbrella Chronicles. It was also less strict about headshot requirements. DC only required 10 a stage while Umbrella was a percentage of all enemies on the stage.

The entire ending also is because of the backlash that Umbrella just folded because of the stockmarket, and in this one they put a cenario in it where chris and jill take down Umbrella themselves in a secret lair in the antartics.

I can't remember Darkside that much, but was the last cenario not from Crowser's perspective of the final boss fight where he is crying like a little bitch that he is powerless with his injuries?

I just remember having a way shittier time with Darkside.

Kinda.

If I'm not mistaken you unlock the Krauser chapters if you beat the final Leon chapter fast enough, it ain't that big of a difference tho. You go through the same last two levels, but through Krauser's perspective, and you get to hear his side of things.

He's impressed by the fact people can turn into giant virus monsters and he gets some of that Vergil power lusting going on.

I can't help but still be kind of curious about Darkside Chronicles, but since I didn't have much fun with Umbrella Chronicles I should probably stay away or at least just watch a YouTube playthrough.

I found this absolutely wonderful article.

If you think the title is cringe enough, read the article. It’s even worse. “Re5 is racist” “infinite darkness is xenophobic, racist, islamophobic” (yes, that many and more) absolutely wonderful takes.

I mean honestly I don’t know which was worse. The kotaku final fantasy x “kimahri makes me wet” article or this.
