That reminds me: Are RE0 and CV still canon?
Or do the REmakes take place in a new timeline?
It's weird and complicated which bums me out.
But basically the trouble is in Zero you briefly revisit a couple of areas from RE2, areas which were left out of 2 remake, CV as far I know doesn't have that issue but this puts Zero in a weird position, I guess you can just say Wesker and Birkin are hanging out in some other small lab area for some reason separate from the lab seen in 2, but since it's pretty clearly supposed to be an allusion to 2, it's still kind of odd.
To some degree it makes sense to think of 2 and 3 remakes as the "real" versions because it's more cohesive graphically and tonally with 7 and 8 than the PS1 versions, but that leaves 0 and CV in a weird place being in the middle of the series releases.
There's also Outbreak, which has you revisiting the original lab from 2, although interestingly enough because you don't actually revisit the room where Birkin is supposed to have created G, you can kinda sorta pretend it's an entirely different lab facility than the one seen in 2 remake if you want to consider the remakes to be the "canon" entries.
Personally though the way I look at it is there's the "prime" timeline which is everything before RE4 and then the alternate timeline which is everything since 4, including the remakes.
One funny way of looking at it is you could call the "prime" timeline the "SD Perry timeline" since she never released another book adaption after the adaption of Zero.
