It's nice to see that the EU has done something good for once, showing it's biggest strength as an economic union and not as the second coming of the USSR. Obviously Apple is going to try and weasel out of actually letting people be free from their monopoly, just like they did when the EU finally forced them to use USB-C in iPhones.

I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I heard that they deliberately made it so that USB-C, a standard from 2014 that quickly became ubiquitous, that is open and has USB 3 speeds and then some, would only work at USB 2/Lightning speeds, unless you pay Apple the premium for the certified cable so they can still make cash on those MFi licenses like they did with Lightning.

Honestly, I'm glad that I'm a poorfag that only ever had Android phones. Installing apps that don't come from a Google baptized store is normal to me, I have a ton of apps from F-Droid, pirated apps, and even without root I can do an amazing amount of things, more than I could on an iPhone. And with root, the sky's the limit.

A step in the right direction from Apple. Emulating on mobile might not be everyone’s cup of tea given the small screen and restricted native controls, but it opens fun pass and play possibilities. Still remember the fond memories of handing around my Nokia C3-00 to school friends as we played advanced wars 2 hotseat games on a gba emulator while sitting on the benches in summer during breaks between lessons. Talking shit about nothing before getting handed a phone by someone with ‘your turn’, a knowing smirk that they pushed your shit in during their turn.

Yeah, I remember emulating Gameboy games on my shitty little Galaxy Trend Plus which was my first Android phone, and it wasn't even rooted. But I'm sure Applefags will gobble it up thanking Apple for those changes, even though they only happened because the EU held a gun to their head to make that change, alongside the allowance for sideloading, or as normal people call it, installing software of your choice on your device, something that Android had since the very beginning.

Don't give Apple credit for this, if it wasn't for the EU, Apple would never do this. Shun them for being so greedy and consumer unfriendly that it took legislative power to change their mind.

And as the Ars Technica story says, the App Store policy change is likely to apply only to companies like Sega making an official emulator app that can download different ROMs from their servers, instead of needing a separate app for every game. No copyright infringement permitted, no "abandonware".

If you can sideload, the App Store's restrictions don't matter, but that's only for the EU. I'm reading that you can use a GPS spoofer and change your Apple ID country/region to trick it, so maybe there is hope for the walled gardeners.

There's a lot of faggotry in the emulation development scene but not so much the actual games, plus other subsets like real hardware and MISTers have their own strains of autism.

In any case, when you remember that troons like video games and anime, they have horrendous taste in both, especially the latter.

Don't see any reason to rejoice. This is locked to companies creating emulators to let you play ROMs of their games - not even close to what you can do on Android. Even the lack of MTX in this area is doubtful, because they WILL find ways to nickel and dime you, like imagine being able to play only a certain amount of time because they stuffed an energy bar in the original game, or putting everything behind a subscription model. Not going to even bother.

Is there just always going to be something wrong with the state of Sega Saturn emulation or am I just retarded? For the last couple of days, I've been trying to get Sega Saturn emulation working with Grandia and it has been the biggest pain in the ass ever. The last time I tried to play Grandia was a couple of years ago.
I tried the Mednafen (Beetle Saturn) core in Retroarch, but that causes severe visual glitches.
I tried the Kronos core in Retroarch, but that also causes FMV glitches and horrible audio.
I thought I was on to something with the Yaba Sanshiro core but the game frequently crashes now. I'm going to try the standalone Yaba Sanshiro 2 emulator for Grandia and if that doesn't work I might have to swallow my pride and play the shitty remaster.

EDIT: Yaba Sanshiro 2 won't let me fucking rebind my controller :lossmanjack:

For those who don't know why I'm so averse to playing the remaster, they added this DISGUSTING linear filter on all of the textures and theres no way to get rid of the filter without severe visual glitches for the game. Also the visual effects for the Saturn are missing as they simply just took from the PSX version as opposed to taking from both versions like they advertised. Also textures are broken. Either way, the Saturn version is the definitive release but it's stuck with some of the most pain-in-the-ass emulation I've ever had to deal with and I've had to emulate a LOT.

Did you try the standalone Mednafen? I use this with a third party frontend so i don't have to deal with the terminal. 2D games play -mostly- fine, but the 3D ones are the ones i have issues with ( then again my computer is a potato ). Stand-alone Mednafen seems to be the #1 recommended thing for Saturn right now as the other emulators have their own issues. In fact you might be better off just ditching RetroArch for the saturn entirely.

If that doesn;t work, try SSF, it's an oldie closed-source emulator but works on low-end computers. Regarding your game, there's a tweak you need to do before you play it on SSF... Set "Dot Clock" on 3.7 or above. Set "SlaveSH2 Speed" to 90%, Set "EZ Setting" to Highest.

Alright one more thing and I'll hopefully be out of your hair. Is there any way to get rid of the horizontal lines on the top and bottom of the screen? For a 16:9 monitor, there are just black bars all around the screen. Some Sega Saturn emulators have this issue while other Sega Saturn emulators don't.

The Saturn version just looks better. There are tons of videos online but skimming through the one I linked should do enough justice. All of the visuals from the PSX version made it into the remaster, the issue with the remaster (other than the fuck ugly filter) is the fact that none of the Sega Saturn visuals that they advertised were going to be there made it into the remaster.
