Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

I don't see how anybody can justify it, who only wants GBC specifically this much?
There are people that will buy a NES/SNES/PS1 mini, nothing surprises me anymore.

To be fair though, the GameBoy library is pretty hefty... both regular and color combined. Not like you'd run out of content quickly.

That's true, but I just don't see why the option wouldn't be there. I imagine the overlap of interest in NES/GBC is practically 1:1, and the controls are exactly the same.

It seems like 90's consoles usually worked well. I don't hear about PS1 or Dreamcast issues very often, but PS2 and even GC could be a problem. Not sure about Xbox though.
I still play my Dreamcast periodically and the only hardware problem I have had is the battery died a couple years ago so it asks the date/time after every power-off. The disc drive is still going though which is surprising because I have only used CD-Rs with it. I own one legit game (Fighting Force 2) and I never gotten around to playing it.

I did finally discover that there were projects like ReviveDC a while back and I have slowly been upgrading my collection. The difference in things like disc drive overuse is amazing.

Speaking of that, I use the mission screen song("Time to get moving!") as my morning alarm(edit: the "no more snoozing" kind).
Sometimes that voice sample plays in my head when I wake up in the morning. I don't think I've even heard it in 10 years. :|

Pretty sad that people will buy trash like that instead of a superior Genesis Mini

Personally I have 70 or so GB and GBC carts plus a couple Everdrives and am pretty aware that this sort of hobby isn't cheap any more.
COVID wrecked the price of everything but the old games craze seems to have been driven by a lot of social media faggotry.

I wonder why repros aren't more common. In 2016 I spotted a copy of "EarthBound Uncut" in a video game store, basically a ROM hack that re-implements the graphical changes made in localization. However, it wasn't exactly cheap...

They are actually quite common. The problem is a good quality repro takes effort so they aren't cheap. I bought repros of StarFox 2, Trials of Mana, Tengai Makyou Zero, Star Ocean, and a couple others... they're really nice but man it hurts buying them.

There are also a lot of low quality chinese bootlegs especially for GB out there but they aren't worth buying imo. For example:

You mean when they took down a remake of a game that directly competed with the remake they were already half a year from releasing?
Aww the poor global multi-billion dollar company was afraid of getting over-shadowed by a fan game? Is that what you're implying and defending? Lol. Hey maybe you're right, since AM2R was a better Metroid game then anything Nintendo had released in years, maybe it was well founded.
no lol. he was writing nonsense for the sake of it. If anything, he should've talked about queer mario due to Super Mario Wonder having a Non-Binary character (that worm faggot prince)
No, I was referring to the Niggering of Zelda elves ala Amazog's Rangs of Black Powuh. Didn't you play BOTW's 70 dollar DLC last year?

Many Such Cases.

Reminds me when Sega sent BomberGames a C&D regarding Streets Of Rage Remake. At the time it was due to Sega releasing SOR on mobile phones called Bare Knuckle Mobile, which was japan only and did the EXTREMELY unholy act of taking Blaze's SOR2 sprite and clothing her all up.

The appeal of this is that it is only being a really high quality Game Boy Color. It does one thing very well. It's a good price vs premodded GBCs, and honestly try to price out good condition normal GBCs these days even; they aren't $10 any more.

Try the FPGBC. $70 plus shipping, a bigger screen (the device is the same size as the real thing, just smaller bezels), USB-C charging, 1.25x speed up, and some other good stuff. The only problem I know of is that flash cart compatibility is hit or miss, and it doesn't play roms. I'm all for more FPGA systems, but $200 is pretty bad for a worse version of something that already exists for much cheaper.

It's $70 for a kit not a finished product and as you say you don't get as good results. Plus the screen isn't going to be as good.

As the owner of an NT Mini I personally don't think the price is an issue but we're also in an era where everything is way more than it used to be; an AV Famicom runs over $100 in Japan. Not that long ago I bought mine for $35.

Playing SMT:if for the first time, and Ive been playing it on my phone. Iam normally not a fan of touch screen buttons, but this time its been going great. I think Iam going to see how far I can use my phone as an emulation device. I already know i can connect a Playstation controller to it over wifi.

I remember an overpriced Felix the Cat collection coming out late last year. It was funny how much they wanted for an NES ROM of just a decent game.
One of the few games I had for the original NES. It's easy, I can bet it in an hour or less.

$25 on digital, with the NES ROM and the Game Boy ROM, with a few very basic features like rewind. No other features, not even public domain cartoons of Felix, nothing like that.

What a ripoff.

It's kinda fun and I think it's pretty well balanced personally, but just doesn't have much personality in its design. It looks and sounds fine, it's like a couple steps above stuff like Bubsy but several below Mario or Kirby.

You'd think they could at least throw in some concept art. I'm not sure if they could've, but it probably wouldn't be hard to include more games too (though the only other I tried was shitty, for GBC).

Between butchering remakes and the ridiculous price of retro games I'm not sure how one can denounce emulation without coming off like a massive shill for a corporation that cares nothing for you.
You could always invest in a multicart like an R4 or software such as FreeMcBoot that allows you to play games on console/handheld without being the bitch of some loser who treat video games like stocks.
