Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

The XBOX 360 turns 20 in year...

My dying wish would be to have one more day on classic Xbox Live with the blade dashboard screaming obscenities at people with this piece of shit headset on.
PSP is technically retro in December by the Japanese launch date. I remember that being really high-tech. Literal dust.
I bought a new battery for my PSP 1001 and it still runs fine. It's still one of the best handheld consoles ever made.

You could always invest in a multicart like an R4 or software such as FreeMcBoot that allows you to play games on console/handheld without being the bitch of some loser who treat video games like stocks.
Pretty well every console has this option. Between everdrives, ODEs, CD-Rs, custom firmwares, and etc you can do real hardware and load a rom and get a great experience for minimal spend.

Its nice how durable they are considering how fiddly the tiny components inside are.

I am stubbornly keeping my three OEM PSP batteries working and in good condition after 15-20 years by charging them 2-3 times per year.

What are the hardest games to run on each system, emulation wise?

I have a 5600x cpu. PS2 emulation runs great. I can run pretty much every game, and even overclock them, with room to spare. But Ratchet Gladiator (aka Deadlock) makes the emulator chug whenever there's any real action on screen. The solution online is "get a better CPU", so maybe it's just a difficult game to run?

Try to change region, assuming you downloaded the ntsc version, try either pal or ntsc-j. Also, put everything on just native and then maybe work your way up from there. thankfully despite all their retardation, pcsx2 team still keeps per-game settings.
Funny, I had troubles with 2 due to the turret bug and 3, but never with 4/deadlocked/gladiator.

Ace Combat 4, that's a game that will probably run well when the fans finally decide to recompile it on pc rather than use the band-aid fix that is the emulator.

F-Zero GX is the benchmark for GameCube emulation, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for Wii, and one of the God of Wars for PSP. Other than that, I guess Star Fox 2 for SNES?
Tedious self-quote, but I want to emphasize that I'm not being ironic and I ❤️ my Genesis Mini II
It came with several new Genesis ports of games that didn't previously get them, what's not to love? Speaking of which, did those ever get dumped?

just imagine if they had put that effort into making their own game instead of Nintendo's game
I mean.....he did. AM2R was a solo dev passion project that DocterM64 used to teach himself game development over the course of 8 years. Afterwards Moon Studios recruited him to assist in creating the level design for Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

I need to get a battery for mine. I put some games on an SD card a few months ago and while playing I accidentally pulled the plug out of the wall. What's a good, affordable third party battery? I've been on the fence about getting one because I'm afraid of crappy chineseum.

Ostent is the most reputable replacement for OEM batteries and you can get slightly larger capacity than original. Mine detects full charge at 100% but some people have had them that only show 80-90%.

goddamn that's scary to think about.
Yeah, it's gonna be really depressing when PS3 is retro in a couple years.

Hm, I never had mine long, so I wouldn't know. My PSP was stolen and I never bothered replacing it until Vita. Might be worth just selling it and getting one of those, unless the prices are still crazy. I know PSTV came way down from its peak.

My original DS battery lasted so god damn long.

GX has some incredible music, wide variety of genres too.
Nintendo batteries are great. I've only ever had one device that had problems, my original Vita 1000 model. Iirc they're pretty notorious for battery issues, and it just stopped working one day.

Vita 2000 is a damn beast though, it's a heavily used launch model that still holds a fine charge. I never even turn it off much, just sits there for days or weeks of disuse with most of its battery intact until I'm ready to play something. My Steam Deck starts draining a bit even if it's off after just a couple days.

Update on the Vimm's Lair debacle:

They got hit by multiple companies and the ESA in the span of a few hours, and forced to take down most of their back-catalogue. I've been doing some research into what happened, and why there's a sudden interest after about two fucking decades of not giving a shit, and as it turns out, we can once again blame Instagram and Tiktok for this shit:

1. Emulators allowed on IOS. Delta takes off like crazy.
2. Retards seeking clout make fucking dozens of videos discussing where to get ROMs and spam that shit on the aforementioned sites.
3. Every idiot can see these fucktards revealing every fucking existing ROM site they can find.
4. Vimm's gets hit by Sega, Nintendo, Lego, the ESA, and more.
5. Vimm's is like the third or fourth site these clout-chasing tards fucking murdered this way.
6. Have it once again driven home that iPhones were the worst fucking thing to ever happen to the internet.

I think everything got decrypted and dumped, not sure if the ones that don't run on stock hardware have been emulated

Considering how quickly & easily these sites fold I find it hard to believe that these big companies either didn't know about them, or that they just didn't care but now suddenly do. If it's essentially a simple email to shut them down then what's the point of waiting until/if they become popular first? I'm probably missing something.
