Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

I feel like I've maxed out the potential video quality I could ever possibly get out of this console. I cannot fathom a reason to drop 750 USD on a RetroTink 4K or even 250 USD on a RetroTink 2X Pro unless the benefits on other retro consoles are THAT good.
The internals of the RAD2X are similar to what's in the RT2X so thats not an upgrade, but a general use solution for other consoles.

The 5X and 4K are certainly a step up, but personally I haven't bought them because I think a RT2X Pro or OSSC is plenty, and I've been tending to play 90% of the time on a CRT anyway. The biggest advantages you would get are more options and direft scaling to 1080p/4K -- many newer TVs give odd results with 480p.
Also does anybody have any experience with PS2 console hardware modding? I was considering getting Methylene installed on my PS2 which allows the console to have Bluetooth connection and remote power on/off.
My advice for PS2 is don't bother with hardware mods.

Brook sells a really good Bluetooth controller adapter, no mods needed. You can't turn the console on with it of course but its a LOT less fuss.

Modchips similarly are pretty well out classed by doing a mechapwn softmod.

I'll fuck around with it and see. I was playing with DirectX and will try switching to OpenGL.

Edit: I tried that and nothing. This is the problem I have:

Did you click on "Set Checkpoint"? It causes levels including Training Mode to crash.

If it were that simple, they would have taken down the years-old Mario 64 ports, or OoT, or Majora’s Mask, or Link to the Past, or…
I think they did take down the Link's Awakening one but that one was basically freeware that re-used all of Link's Awakening no ROM required.

I didn't try it so I don't know if it felt "wrong" or used stolen code as well.

Nintendo would definitely consider shutting down a project like this. The legality doesn't matter if the threat is effective. Developers should treat Nintendo like it's the CIA and use anonymity to the greatest extent possible.

I doubt we'll see a PC port of WWF No Mercy or WCW VS NWO: Revenge (God tier of wrestling games) because tranny furry programmers never had the testosterone levels to enjoy wrestling in the first place.
Maybe, but then an image of "Commander" James "Stephanie" Sterling pops in my head.

I thought mechapwn only worked with Slim PS2s? It does suck that there's still no proper way to run PSX games through OPL/Popstarter or ESR without 5 million caveats and half the library not working because homebrew apps use the same chip that is used for the PS1. Fortunately Duckstation runs whatever I throw at it just fine.

I'm continuously amused by the logic of the ancient Japanese salaryman. I mean, god knows how many people will download this. Easily a million+ spread out over the next few months or less. And all they have to do is hire a few guys to work up a decent source port, release it for like $20-30, and boom: millions of dollars. The game is almost 30 years old and they've been squatting on the IP doing next to nothing with it. They're just leaving money on the table.

It's my IP.png

You can't stop piracy. It's better to embrace and try to get some money out of it. But I'm preaching to the choir. And we all know that we won't see this change until the 130+ year-old crusty fuckers that run Nintendo and reminisce about the good ol' days of the love hotels will finally just fucking die.

Beware of a future where we've finally mastered immortality because that means all the corrupt elite motherfuckers will never fucking go away.

I can even see Nintendo begging Sleepy Joe to enact Emergency Powers to stop this project before his term ends next month.

Yeah, Nintendo has been pretty wack this year, shutting down 2 emulators, something unheard before. Faggots said Ryujinx was untouchable because the dev was in Brazil or because it had no copyrighted code. I don't trust Nintendo anymore when it comes to these things, they are hell bent on protecting their precious assets and know that the people making these ports will fold to their demands if a DMCA is issued. They know these people don't have the money to fight back. They don't care if it's legal anymore.

Mechapwn works on 50k model fat ps2s which is the most desirable anyway.

PS1 games work great burned to a CD-R with mechapwn.

Even if we did assume this being based off a reverse-engeneered decompilation of the game wouldn't help it's case, Jurnoscum trying to use the release of the "stand-out" fan projects for article fodder is just the kiss of death in regards to it's survival agianst a company as litigious as Nintendo since it's basically shooting off a firework right at that all-seeing eye and hoping it doesn't notice, and the people who would be using this as some "fuck you" to a company that literally could care less if you were even alive didn't learn at all from when they and the other related corporations shut down Vimm's, let alone taking down any ROM site being caused in due part because of the increaced exposure to thier existance.

Piracy crackdowns as a whole have ramped up this year. FMovies, AniWave, and Gogoanime have all fell victim to the more aggressive takedowns this year.

Microsoft and Sony are making money on PC ports but they killed all interest in their consoles. All Nintendo wants is for the gaijin to pay for their overpriced hardware, buy their exclusives and give them $50 a year for access to rom dumps. Outside of those three things, they don't care.

I'm away from my main computer and I use an older MacBook for travel-related purposes and some rare other purposes (Preview is an excellent PDF editor on the fly). I wanted to play a bit of classic NES and had a 8bitdo SN30 Pro. After fiddling with OpenEmu (casual trash) and Nestopia, I found out that Apple basically doesn't even recognize most USB controllers as an input device anymore. Apple has been fucking around with the OS for years but I had smoke coming out of my ears when I figured out that's what was going on.

Anyone still using Apple products in current year especially if it's for gaming, only have themselves to blame.
