If he does have a role as a script reader for a production company, then yes, that is a legitimate job, though I don't believe it's a credited job or anything like that. It'd be entirely back-end company management; assisting with the decision on whether a script gets made. My understanding of the job, and I may be wrong, is that he would read submitted scripts and categorize it according to certain criteria (e.g., projected budget) and give an abstract of the story and a personal analysis. The purpose is entirely so higher-level execs can then decide whether a script merits their interest.

Basically, Reuben could bury a script he doesn't like with little risk of getting caught, but he's not likely to cause anything shitty to get made; pushing a bad script would more likely get him fired for wasting execs' time.

It seems he's a slushpile reader. He gets to read the really horrible unsolicited garbage submitted without agents and pick out the slightly less horrible garbage that stands some chance of being worth a look by someone at a higher pay grade.

Okay, full disclosure, I met Reuben through the Toonzone message boards, where he posts under the name "HG Revolution", and he seemed like a cool guy, and I happened to share many of his opinions on animation.

And I have interesting story to tell regarding him and GamerGate

First, some backstory, https://batdansucks.wordpress.com was set up by a Canadian girl under the name "lasersquad" (some other guy helped to form the site, but he seemingly skipped town a few years ago).

It at first seemed to be a site criticizing BatDan (author of the Irate Gamer Sucks blog).

It turned out that lasersquad was actually using the site to get the IP addresses of Chris "Irate Gamer" Bores , and several other people connected to him.

One of said people connected to Bores was Eric "Asalieri" Gaede.

So, ever since then, lasersquad has written some articles criticizing Bores, but mostly she writes articles exposing Eric and his circle of friends, which brings us to the GamerGate part:


Lasersquad first talked about Eric's attempts to join the Pro-GG bandwagon in https://batdansucks.wordpress.com/2...e-against-avgn-and-lame-entry-into-gamergate/ (WARNING: Disgusting video card near the end, but it comes after the part about GamerGate).

But lasersquad's meaty article on GamerGate was https://batdansucks.wordpress.com/2...-that-gamergate-is-not-a-harassment-campaign/, and this is where things get interesting.


I posted the article to Reuben Baron (HG Revolution on Toonzone) via Facebook PMs, he bashed the article, I posted his comments in the comments section of the article, lasersquad replied, I posted lasersquad's response to Reuben on Facebook, and the results were fairly heated.

Jesus fucking christ man, this whole thing is like a bizarro repeat of the Catholic pedo priest thing. It never ceases to amaze me how much projection there is on both the extreme right and left (authoritarian) sides, and yet how much of it rings true, for the simple reason that even though they're enemies, they're exactly the fucking same.
