Reuters: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter to face same EU rules on hateful content as broadcasters

They way to prevent it is to not have a government capable of granting power and favors to whomever pays the most.
This was the case for most of Western civilization's history - the all-powerful national government that can declare winners and losers by fiat is a modern innovation. The lack of such did nothing to stop the rise of private fortunes and powers that rivalled the governments of their day.
The only difference is that back in the olden times, the great private powers didn't really feel the need to get involved with the common turnip farmer the way modern corporations do with the common desk jockey.
Unless you want to bring the Church into this, but let's not open that can of worms...

Many of the problems Null is having with the farms, specifically funding, is because there's a fuckton of regulations behind banking and money transferral and cutting many of them would allow a Kiwi Bank to take up the mantle of serving Josh.
But his most recent problem was due to a private blacklist with Mastercard, so I'm not convinced that the private sector is any more likely to give Null a fair shake when unregulated.

EU to Elon Musk’s Twitter: “We will have control, we will have access, people will no longer be able to say [just] anything.”

European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, has demanded that Elon Musk increase the number of Twitter censors in the European Union. Since Musk took over the social media company, he has fired about half of the workforce.

Breton issued a warning, saying that Europe, “will not have a trembling hand” and that Musk “knows the European position perfectly.”

“He is in the process of reducing a certain number of moderators, but he will have to increase them in Europe,” Breton said in an interview with Franceinfo. “He will have to open his algorithms. We will have control, we will have access, people will no longer be able to say [just] anything.” He added, “hate speech is over.”

Breton said he had suggested establishing a “working relationship” with Twitter’s new owner to discuss what Europe demands of the social media platform.

“He knows perfectly well what the conditions are for Twitter to continue operating in Europe,” Breton said.

Shortly after Musk took over the platform, Breton warned that Twitter will have to “fly by our rules.

As long as you have no way to use the internet somewhat anonymously, away from prying government eyes (and don't fool yourself for a moment that the corpos are on your side on this one, they cooperate willingly and gladly with the most heinous and repressive governments on earth for the sake of profit) there's no such thing as freedom of expression. If you can only say what you think with having your face and name attached to it, then it's obviously because powers-that-be want to have the ability to punish you for it if they think it needs to be. Corpos don't want you to have it. Governments don't want you to have it. That the american system has so much protected free speech are leftovers from other times. Both political parties would remove it in a heartbeat if they could package it properly.

If a platform doesn't allow you anonymous usage, and many of these already do not - giving them your phone number for example is as good as having a copy of your ID for the sake of law enforcement (that's why they make you do it) stop using it. It's inconvenient but it's really that simple. You need to make a choice what's more important for you.
