Lowtax made an absolutely ridiculous amount of money off of something awful even despite his failings. If he hadn't pissed away every cent he ever made on thousand dollar chairs, goldbelly pies, office space in a retail center, ambien, box wine, and multiple divorces, he would easily have been a multi-millionaire. The forum revenue definitely fell off in recent years, but hell, Lowtax was making 15k a month from his patreon alone in 2019, and the only thing that stopped that gravy train was when it became public knowledge that he was banging his side piece in his own home while his wife and kids hid in a battered woman's shelter.

Might as well pile on. I never joined (or even paid attention to) SA and as a bit of a greybeard myself I always viewed it as the online version of the "super-extreme-edgy!" crap of the late 90's and early naughts (damn kids ... at least they stayed away from usenet). It produced a few laughs and classic memes, and gave us the first "let's plays" that got any attention/traction.

But then it also produced Zoe Quinn, "goons" and SJW's (or at least gave SJW's their first legitimate "base of operations" where all their prototypes for modern outrage culture were built and tested). It produced "goonswarm," a group of autistic cunts who decided to get together and skull-fuck EVE Online and its players and community, permanently ruining the game.

And all of that was a symptom of its chief export -- it fostered the nasty, mean-spirited "go out and fuck with absolutely everybody just to be a fucking dick" mentality that's spread far and wide in recent years. There's a subtle difference between trolling (like 4chan used to do) and what SA did. Trolling is meant to be funny. SA "trolled" just to spoil the fun for everybody else. All the shit KF gets blamed for doing that it really doesn't do? SA did that shit.

Learning that its creator and (past) owner was a lowlife abusive deadbeat father doesn't surprise me in the least. Good riddance that he's gone. It's a shame SA didn't go with him. No sympathy for his exes either. They seem like grifting cunts in their own right and I'm delighted to hear his most recent ex-wife paid a small fortune to get a ruling from a court that no longer has any monetary value beyond the paper it's printed on.

That old thread is 95% people responding in variations of Who Gives A Fuck? After reading @Secret Asshole recollection of Lowtax I was surprised to learn that the large swath of users didn't suck his dick.

Earlier this week I compared Lowtax to a Cult Leader or a Dictator to a shithole nation. Because he did the absolute minimum for a community that happily gave him food and shelter. But Cult Leaders and Dictators get their way through fear, indoctrination, and oppression. The only thing Lowtax had on the goons was that he could happily ban them if they annoyed him. I just can't comprehend why these users supported such a dilapidated forum.

Think maybe the wild west culture of the early internet meets wacky random web 1.0 humor meets Kiwifarms meets Reddit except instead of subreddits, you had megathreads with sometimes tens of thousands of pages. Yeah, it really can't be over stated how accepting the forum was of Lowtax's dirty little secret until it started spilling outside of the forums. Once they couldn't just brush it off as forum drama, goons found their conscience.
