We have a thread on Mystery Science Theater 3000 but not Rifftrax, so I decided to rectify that.

I've been into Rifftrax for about four years now. Shockingly, I have never seen MST3K (I know, I know, I keep meaning to rectify that). I have almost all of their riffs, occupying over 300 gigabytes on my external hard drive... thanks to torrenting. But I've also donated to and bought directly from them, because they don't deserve to not get paid.

Anyway, my some of my favorite Rifftrax are
  • The Room (if you've never seen Rifftrax, you must start with this one)
  • Cool As Ice
  • Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny
  • The Twilight movies
  • Birdemic
  • Drugs Are Like That (short)
  • Putting Together a Room (short)
  • The Happening
  • All of the "At Your Fingertips" shorts
  • Future Force and Future Zone
  • Battlefield Earth
  • The Star Wars Holiday Special
  • 300
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Sharknado and Sharknado 2
  • Fun in Balloonland
  • The Guy From Harlem
  • Manos: The Hands of Fate
  • To Catch a Yeti
  • Rollergator
  • David & Hazel (short)
  • Total Riff Off series
If you're looking for more Rifftrax, I recommend buying (or torrenting) the shorts. You get more bang for your buck. I also recommend perusing the Rifftrax Starter Kit entries on the Rifftrax Wiki.

I've been catching a view of their Live! shows and lave the hell out of them.

I've seen their Christmas special from a few years back, Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, and a compilation of their best bits from the Harry Potter movies. Pretty funny stuff.

I definitely recommend watching more, or at least watching more "best of" compilations on YouTube. They're hilarious.

I'm looking forward to the MST3K reunion they're holding later this month. We'll also get to see future MST3K host Jonah Ray's riffing chops for the first time.

I find Rifftrax hit or miss. A lot of their humor style strikes me as a lower-hanging-fruit version of the SciFi seasons of MST3k.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too often it seems to me they'll get a joke and beat it into the ground, far beyond "running gag" and well into "hack".

If I'm inclined to watch the movie anyway I'll usually enjoy an RT version, but it's usually not enough to bring me to the table of a movie I don't give a shit about.

Getting to see weird and bad movies at my local theater's pretty cool, though, so I try to catch the live shows just so I can see Plan 9 or Manos in a theater.

I assume part of it is that I started watching MST back in the first cable season, so I'm about as much a Joelfag as you can get outside of Minneapolis, but I liked Cinematic Titanic a lot more.

Agree, Rifftrax tend to be hit-or-miss, but then this was also true of MST3K --I remember watching MST3K back in the Comedy Central days and they certainly weren't all Manos Hands of Fate classics. I keep thinking of making a list of the ones I like best, but actually the ratings on their website have been pretty accurate. imo, even the meh episodes are still reasonably funny.

I went to an encore screening of their live Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny.

I will never get those ninety minutes back.

And I am OK with that.
