Rifftrax

I went to an encore screening of their live Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny.

I will never get those ninety minutes back.

And I am OK with that.

Those 90 minutes are worth it just to see this:

Agree, Rifftrax tend to be hit-or-miss, but then this was also true of MST3K --I remember watching MST3K back in the Comedy Central days and they certainly weren't all Manos Hands of Fate classics. I keep thinking of making a list of the ones I like best, but actually the ratings on their website have been pretty accurate. imo, even the meh episodes are still reasonably funny.

The great thing about Rifftrax (and MST3K) is that even if one joke doesn't land, it usually doesn't take long for a better one to come along because there are just so many jokes per movie. I've never seen a Rifftrax where the jokes are "meh" all the way through.

Hearing Bill's laugh for the rabbit.... Wasn't that laugh used in a Sci-Fi MST3K episode with a Japanese movie? It was one of the best, IIRC.

UPDATE:

Found it. As expected, it's Bill who plays the laughing alien.

Same here.

Admittedly, they repeated a little too many jokes for my liking... But at least when the Jack and the Beanstalk part came on they really started to shine.

I'm still mad they couldn't get the rights to live-riff Twilight. But Starship Troopers was a good replacement.

I'm still mad they couldn't release a full version of live riffing of The Room.

Whoever is blocking that is such an asshole. You were in the fucking Room, get over yourself.

"I did not block it, it's bullshit! I did not block it! I deed naught....

O hai Mark!"

"I did not block it, it's bullshit!"
"Yes, you did."
"YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!"
"Leave your stupid comments in your pocket!"
"EVERYBODY BETRAYED ME! I'M FED UP WITH THIS WORLD!"

Anyway, how's your sex life?

Anybody here went to the MST3K reunion tonight?

At my theater they fucked up with the projector but they managed to start it just when they started riffing the first short - and it was great from then on.

I was there for it tonight. Some parts were fall-over funny, laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes.
Jonah Ray...maybe his audio wasn't right, maybe he needs to work on delivery and enunciation, maybe it's a regional accent thing...but I couldn't understand but maybe half of the things that came out of his mouf. What I could make out wasn't so funny imho.

Trace and TV's Frank killed it, Mary Jo and Bridget were good, it was a solid show overall.

Anyone went to see RiffTrax do Mothra tonight?

The riffing was pretty good. Especially given that you had a film that was stupid fun, with a dubbing where everyone sounds like they're in a WWII propaganda cartoon. I wish they'd made more jokes on that...

I've been into Rifftrax for about four years now. Shockingly, I have never seen MST3K (I know, I know, I keep meaning to rectify that). I have almost all of their riffs, occupying over 300 gigabytes on my external hard drive... thanks to torrenting. But I've also donated to and bought directly from them, because they don't deserve to not get paid.

Bruh, you gotta get on that. Yes, Rifftrax is great, but Mystery Science is much more consistently better than Rifftrax.

I'm going to help you out, this is how you can get into it slowly. Start out by watching the "shorts", just like on Rifftrax, as I'm sure you guessed, they are short little films that can range from a 1950s hygiene video for kids, to how to behave at dinner with your family, as well as trainer videos for Anhauser Busch employees, Industrial Art Class proponents, and videos about how to be a better bread salesman.

A good movie to start on, which I'm sure you have already heard this, is Space Mutiny. It's such a silly sci-fi movie it would almost be good without riffing.

Here's a list of good ones that I can watch multiple times and not get bored with:

1. Horrors of Spider Island
2. Girl In Gold Boots
3. Wild Rebels
4. Red Zone Cuba aka Night Train to Mundo Fine
5. The Beatniks
6. Ring of Terror
7. Escape 2000
8. Warrior of the Lost World
9. Overdrawn at the Memory Bank (this one comes highly recommended, almost as silly as Space Mutiny)
10. Devil Fish
11. Final Sacrifice
12. High School Big Shot
13. I Accuse My Parents
14. Gamera vs Guiron
15. Prince of Space

I haven't seen any Rifftrax in a few years besides the short clips on YouTube. Do you have any recommendations from the past 5 years or so? Older ones I really liked are Point Break and Daredevil (her name is electric nachos?). I watched the "best of" on youtube of The Room, without knowing anything about it beforehand. Holy shit... That pale Eastern European creep. I wasn't ready for that. God was it funny.

Awesome, thank you for the recommendations! Like I said, I really need to watch MST3K, but I wasn't sure where to even begin. I'll definitely check these out this weekend.

And as for Rifftrax recommendations, I gave some in the OP, but here are my favorites.
  1. The Room (seriously, watch the entire thing. It's my absolute favorite)
  2. Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny
  3. The Happening
  4. Manos: The Hands of Fate (an updated version of the MST3K one)
  5. Battlefield Earth
  6. The Twilight movies
  7. Birdemic
  8. Drugs Are Like That (short)
  9. The Guy From Harlem
  10. To Catch a Yeti
  11. Rollergator

Hey, thank you. I think I'm going to get back into the Rifftrax. The best thing about Mystery Science for me is the fact that there are so many episodes and that they are good and long. I've seen most of them, but there are still plenty that I haven't seen or watched all the way through. This is due to me re-watching the ones I really enjoy and it has the added benefit of leaving me plenty of content to enjoy at a later date. Between that and all the Rifftrax, I have plenty to keep me occupied.

Yeah I think I'm going to start with the Room. I've heard of that movie but didn't know anything about it other than it was attaining a "cult film" like status for being so terrible that it can be entertaining. I didn't know about the Vampire Guy as the leading man, or the Britney Spears lookalike girlfriend, or bearded friend who is sometimes clean shaven.

Have you seen the Rifftrax for Point Break btw? It's of the old film not the recent remake, its very funny. There's a line in there for that scene at the end when Keanu Reeves is fighting Swayze in the airplane and Gary Busey pulls up in the car, "They hired Gary Busey because he was one of the only actors that can crash a truck into an airplane." lol
