Let's Sperg Rimworld: The Trans Unicorn Ranch Adventure

Shock lance is super useful. Easiest way to hunt thrumbos.

If you're having so much trouble with food, why not set up nutrient paste? Your colonists shouldn't get too mad as long as you use meat to make the meals. You could also feed the nutrient paste to the alpacas if you take a bunch of meals out at once and leave them in a freezer the animals can access.

You should probably start growing the haygrass in the rich soil patch under your base rather than directly in the animal pen. It looks kind of stupid to follow the outlines of weird patches like that, but most bases in this stage look stupid anyway. You could plant dandelions in the animal pen if you really want to graze the alpacas.

Any nutrient paste slaps you with a -4 regardless of what it came out of...EXCEPT, we have the Transhumanist meme which sets Nutrient Paste to "don't care". That said I have it in my mind that the Tranchers would refuse to eat it. Also I have that Garulean Seed Pod out there that I could harvest, plant, and inside a couple weeks have dryads growing 40 berries every two days, but I'm ignoring that to make it harder on the Tranch. Suffering is fun.

You raise a good point about haygrass, and we do have a second patch growing which is coming along well thanks to actually having a pawn with plant skill now, but I'm leaving that particular patch of fertile soil alone because it's growing wild fruits at the moment. The sudden reduction in alpaca herd size, coupled with more hay being grown, should offset things as we head into "winter".

I believe they updated Rancher so that it's okay to eat plants as long as all meals contain some meat, so you could still cut meat consumption by feeding your colonists pemmican or fine meals.

For the rich soil, you could always put a growing zone over the berries and forbid sowing so your colonists automatically harvest the berries when fully grown. I usually do this with ambrosia patches.

You can heavily nerf the meat eating requirement to a "mildly" and my mods may be messing with it further.

As for the rich soil and the berries, that is smart and will likely make it into future runs of Rimworld. This is the Tranch, and they are not. That said, I have an idea as far as nutrient paste goes, which is "reminding myself that people can be on different diets". Is there an irony in me making them female supremist and then having them feed the women nutrient slop? Probably.

We've hit a bit of a snag. There's something bugged in my save, maybe a fucked mod or something, but when I load in, no pawns move. The animals move, but my pawns and the trade caravan are frozen. It's also impossible to draft or otherwise order them.

I thought it was Rimworld of Magic that broke, as it just updated. And it was. Disabling it got things moving, but ripped the Arcane Mage trait from Drurk. So I think I'll either have to disable the mod and play without magic, or let this run die. Shit. I'll come back to this on Monday.

After another update which presumably fixed the broken shit, we're back. Even better, Drurk got most of her abilities back. She doesn't have Shadow (which I may not use, the mood penalty was ginormous) or Blink, but she has Summon, Teleport, and Magic Missile from the word go. Last time she only had Missile to start, I think? Doesn't matter, BACK IN THE GAME.

We're gonna need steel to make the nutrient paste dispenser. Luckily, we have some to mine nearby.

Also as requested, we're making it a rainy thunderstorm in exchange for the Psychic Shock Lance (I believe it was three votes for the lance, versus two for the shirt and one for honor). I must say I'm proud of you autists, I handed you a golden opportunity to make Kevin the conceited, do-nothing "noble" he wishes he was, and you declined it. This will not make him any more useful than he currently is.

20220815091842_1.jpg

The good news is, we get the reward immediately.

20220815092327_1.jpg

Since the Shock Lance will assist in the collection of captures, we prepare for the future by making a couple holding cells, and using Alpaca Wool for bedrolls. Knew that shit would come in handy someday. I've also taken the advice of putting a growing zone on a nearby field of Agave and Peach Trees and disabled sowing, to see if my pawns will in fact auto harvest the forageable fruits. (Editor's note: They do!)

Unfortunately I didn't realize how fuck mclargehuge the Nutrient Paste Dispenser was, so I need to massively expand the freezer as that's about the only place I can really stick it. Which means another cooler. Fuck...

20220815094218_1.jpg

Meanwhile, Kevin goes out to hunt a hippo. What will happen?

20220815094447_1.jpg

If you guessed "Hippopotamus Revenge while Kevin is too far from back up", ding ding ding.

20220815094657_1.jpg

Hippos are slow, so Kevin is able to run back and get support from Drurk. However, they're so TOUGH, that a full blast of Magic Missile from Drurk only slows it down some more and makes it kite-able. Kevin takes a bruise to his leg for his efforts, but that's all, and we have a full hippo corpse to butcher. During all this, Jen finishes researching tabletop games, and I set the next project to Smithing, as we'll need it to make prosthetics. Which allows us to make hydraulic vaginas.

SOUNDS OF INCREDIBLY LOUD VOMITING

And just when I got done with that loss of lunch, I spy Penny and Drurk deciding to have a 69...in the rain...next to the steel mine. Because I can't think of any more romantic places. Can you?

20220815101311_1.jpg

To take my mind off things, we're offered a chance to build a monument for rewards. One of them is Glitterworld Medicine, which I happily accept. We can make it all out of limestone too, which is very handy indeed.

20220815102559_1.jpg

The Dispenser is finally made, and I make a couple hoppers that get set to only have 72 items in them thanks to a mod I have letting me take full control of storage options. The Dispenser takes 6 of most normal food items to make 1 Nutrient Paste meal. I set everyone but Penny to "OnlyPaste", a food restriction that makes them eat only the green slurry. As we are transhumanist, there is no penalty for this.

It's worth noting that even the Arid Shrublands get cold in winter. Not painfully so, it gets down to 3 Celsius, so plants won't die, but you may want a sweater. Dress for 40 Freedom Temperature Units if you're American.

20220815103825_1.jpg

Heartless decide to attack us again. Luckily, only Shadows, no Darkside this time around. Shadows, on their own, are slow, weak, and die easily. It goes as well as you'd expect.

20220815105022_1.jpg

A Transport Pod Crash! Someone named Kasvin is here. He's a good doctor, and has some mining skill, which is a skill we're lacking...but, I have other plans for him. He had a shitload of drugs on him too. Jen is dispatched to heal his wounds, and also...

20220815105328_1.jpg

To administer mechanite slurry, and see what happens when we make them drink a cocktail of genetic mutagen. From what I can gather, the condition of changing starts at 100%, ticks down, and grants random mutations. The first one Kasvin got was hard nails on his left foot, granting him 1% of sharp armor and a -10% to moving. He also gets bristly, feathery quills next. We'll check up on him every so often.

Jen figures out Smithing as well, and immediately gets to work on Machining. We're getting closer to making the Tranch real.

20220815110958_1.jpg

Oh, did I mention this before?

Ideology introduced the idea of Relics, artifacts with special significance. I decided to make the Tranch's one and only known relic "The Dilator", a golden two handed club. We will get random quests that will assist us in locating this lost relic. Very well timed, just as we started to get closer to hydraulic vaginas. God that's not even fun to say out loud.

20220815111200_1.jpg

Kasvin update. Appears to be mostly slime and claw related. Damn, it wasn't kidding about random mutations. It quickly becomes impossible to follow his mutations, as he picks up things like a duck egglayer, a pair of avian eyes (he has four, two turn avian, I didn't realize he was a Batarian from Mass Effect before I administered), wing tips, bigger arms, a gas vacuole for buoyancy in his kidney, fuck man. This is a fucking war crime I'm committing.

20220815113115_1.jpg

He even laid a "mutagenic egg". Apparently, eating it causes Avian mutations unless we cook it.

20220815113401_1.jpg

But fuck that, we have a quest. A shuttle from the Empire is crashing, and they offered to send us a miner if we save the shuttle commander (Apos on this image). We also get the scrap from the shuttle once we get him on the new shuttle they're sending. We're going to get a tribal attack, but Apos's companion, Acominata, has a FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHER. Add Drurk in with his magic, and I think we're good.

20220815113636_1.jpg

We get four goblins (Also, Kasvin is having a crisis of faith as his body changes, ignore that). They all have melee weapons, and quickly move away from our Ranch to gear up to attack the crashed Empire citizens. Can't have that, so Drurk is sent out to begin racial cleansing. Her first Magic Missile grants a level up, which resets her cooldown. A second Magic Missile kills another goblin and sends the rest running in a panic.

However, that was NOT the tribespeople raid I was waiting for. The crashed survivors don't attack on their own, but they do defend themselves. And when a guy with a monosword meets guys with sharpened bone and sticks...

20220815114300_1.jpg

Again, as well as you'd expect. Also, Acominata is a MONK, which means that when one of the tribals tries to get up and walk away, she instantly launches herself, in full power armor, and smashes his face in. Imagine Bruce Lee in T-51 Armor flying across the dojo to kick your fucking teeth in.

20220815115348_1.jpg

The crew leaves, and we get Dumbo. Who, if being a good miner wasn't enough, he's also a kick ass Enchanter. Which means he can buff himself, buff allies, and polymorph allies and enemies.

Randy sends two sets of cargo pods. One contains some clothing (not great but, can be sold) and a pod of Green Tea. Reward for Charity? Does he just like confusing us? Who knows with Randy.

20220815120457_1.jpg

Oh, this is why.

We have 5 refugees who want to stay at TUR for 9 days. Well, I am building a structure that's intended to be a temple, but it can play host to them. Plus, they do tend to send some really good shit later on. And five extra field hands can't hurt.

A lot of them have Animals passion, which helps with Fishing. In response, I plunk down some more fishing spots on the river, so they can help us by getting lots of food for us.

One of them, Benart, is the very model of a Scientist Salarian, and helps us out with research. Neat. He likes us, and offers to join us. Welcome aboard! Aliens in our midst now...

20220815123325_1.jpg

Our mage/priest, Drurk, was feeling horny, and decided to break. She's now on a Smokeleaf binge. Well, she was at major. There's worse fates. Like being struck by lightning, which actually happened (but was resolved so fast I couldn't get a shot of it).

20220815124052_1.jpg

As part of testing our newly researched prosthetics, we make a hydraulic penis and attach it to Drurk. As she's a body modder, I thought she'd like it. Nope. -20 for the attachment, and still frustrated for body modding. Let's uh, change that. That's 25 steel and two components I'm not getting back, but I give her a Bionic Leg in the character editor. Call it a "thanks for letting me experiment" bonus. I may need to add more to this if I want this to work, and the -20 mood penalty is not going away so, fuck.

I'll figure it out later. This update's taken three hours and I want to stop playing for a while. I have stuff to do. We end, for now, on Dec. 14th. Next time, who knows, but we've already made it a year...that 5 year goal is looking good.

During all this, Jen finishes researching tabletop games, and I set the next project to Smithing, as we'll need it to make prosthetics. Which allows us to make hydraulic vaginas.
The fact that you have mods to make this A Thing is appropriate, and distressing. It's also being far too kind to the concept of a neo-vagina than it deserves.

I think it an inevitability that your original tranch members will die. Once that happens do you intend to carry on the colony? I would.

You’ve inspired me. Maybe next month I’ll start a similar thread.

The original tranchers dying would technically invalidate the challenge...but I'd be happy to continue with a far less retarded set of restrictions. Or re-roll and just do The KiwiFarms adventure with Rimjob World taken out...or expanded.

I do not know if replacing the tranchers male genitals with horrifying creations of steel and electronics would incur the same -20 penalty Drurk got. But if it does, on retrospect...it makes total sense.

Imagine it. You get what you want. A machine that at least approximates the function of female genitals. But in the end, you know it's a crude approximation. You know deep down, just like every Trancher knows, that it's not real. That it's never going to be real. Even bionic ones, the height of tech in this world, won't be enough. You can biosculpt, you can style, you can do whatever you want to alter yourselves, but you will never be a real woman. Just this image, forever:

1588328132512.jpg

Every mod I've installed, every research I've done, all the Character Editing and breaking the code in a million different ways, and the pawns themselves whole heartedly reject the hubris on offer. They reject the idea that a man can be a woman. In the far future of the Year of our Lord 5500, there are two genders.

It's not gonna get better than this. It's not going to get funnier. Next time, we make Earl a reality, and the Tranch will go up in flames.

I can't wait to see the Tranch go full Indiana Jones on the hunt for the Golden Dilator.

I always find it interesting to see how others play Rimworld. I play very lightly modded and focus on minimizing raid size by having only 6-8 colonists and destroying all unneeded valuables until I can build the ship. I figure my playstyle would be pretty boring to watch, though.

One thing I can recommend is to remove the batteries from your electrical grid if you can power the base totally on the geothermal generator. If you have no batteries, the conduit fault event will only start a fire on a single tile rather than create a giant explosion. I generally run my bases on geothermal and chemfuel generators to avoid the need for batteries unless I get really unlucky with steam geysers.

I do sincerely want to kill this run, but I think installing hydraulic vaginas will do that for me. And with that rare sentence, let's get started.

Work proceeds at the Tranch. Refugees pull their weight, helping to get what will soon be the temple set up. We'll probably build extra bedrooms/a throne room off of there, to avoid smashing the foraged food supply and build on sand. This works better in Rimworld than it does IRL.

All of our hunts end up with the animal trying to revenge, even the Zebra with 10%, Kevin shoots it once and the striped horse goes "FUCK YOU TRANNY" and tries to murder him. We escape with only a bruise to Kevin's left arm. Psychic stuns and magic teleports are AWESOME.

20220820085253_1.jpg

Also awesome is how one of the refugees is a Vorcha from Mass Effect, with regeneration. This is portrayed in game as wounds auto-tending themselves at a rate that can only be compared to "Glitterworld Medicine/10+ Medical with Medicine". I immediately mark her as "no doctor care", she's better than you.

20220820092323_1.jpg

Well, here we go. Two hydraulic vaginas (oh god) and we're ready to install. We choose the "install" option here, not the "add", because they're cutting their dicks off.

20220820092831_1.jpg

Jen fucked up in the most amusing way possible. The dick is indeed cut off! The vagina, however, didn't get in...Let's see if Kev's is any better.

20220820093032_1.jpg

Went perfect, but now he also has the -20 modifier, this one is "Furious about transgender surgery". Despite our horrifying experiments, another of the refugees offers to join us. Well, why not? More people to send off to find the Golden Dilator.

20220820094527_1.jpg

Oddly, it's Dumbo the Enchanter that breaks first due to extreme alcohol withdrawl. He attempts a jailbreak. Right, the mutant. I'm...actually not opposed to this, unlike other mental breaks. Let's see what happens...

Well what happens is my Snap Out Of It mod kicks in, and he stops. At least it means I can release Kasvin without him say, grabbing a weapon.

The date rolls over, and it is now Aprimay. Spring, year 2. Doing better than I thought we would, so that's a start.

20220820095438_1.jpg

And we start Aprimay off with a bit of a bang. We have a quest to hold a prisoner at our complex for basically an entire season and some change. Our rewards could be: Honor, a Hack Stopper Jacket plus some Plasteel, or Goodwill.

I think I like these quicker updates...for my own personal opinion: Honor can help us level up our Psionics, obviously. The Hack Stopper Jacket is good armor against sharp attacks, very handy for those who mix it up in melee, and Plasteel is good shit. Goodwill is not as helpful, but it will be better soon when I build a Comms Console and can use Goodwill to summon trade ships.

Time to vote! If you ask for Honor, specify who gets it among the original three (Penny, Jen, Kevin). You have until Monday!

If I were playing I would pick goodwill. The benefits are limited right now but if you can keep the run going for long enough you’ll eventually reap the rewards friendship confers. I don’t think that will happen which is why I am placing my vote for honor. I think it was Kevin that already granted title of yeoman? Give it to him.

Kevin is currently without honor. Penny and Jen both have enough for Yeoman, but only one of them is because the other doesn't have an ascendency quest. Still willing to give it to Kevin, just adding detail. (I should add honor counts to the group next time this comes up.

Yeah, honor's good. Off to Kev it goes.
Since you're not planning on making it last too long, goodwill would be a waste.

Welp, with Kevin with a permanent -20 due to having his dick cut off and replaced with a hydraulic vagina, we will probably lose this run in-GODDAMNIT.

20220822120741_1.jpg

Solar Flares are still crippling. Fuck you Randy.

We accept the quest with Kevin being marked as the one getting the honor. We may just see how high we can get him going. Thanks to the Solar Flare, Kevin's penis which was being preserved in the freezer has rotted away. Ha, ha haha...

So between Kevin and Drurk the mage, we're always teetering on the edge of a break. Additionally, Dumbo, the Enchanter we got, is addicted to alcohol, and is suffering a massive mood penalty since we haven't even gotten beer going. We're working on it, but it takes time for hops to grow. Luckily he's only a Major and not an EXTREME break risk right now.

Someone else makes another hydraulic vagina, let's try installing in Penny again.

20220822121836_1.jpg

You know what? I don't think Rimworld Jen likes Rimworld Penny. We've rolled 6% failure twice in a row now.

A Propaganda drone starts up, but as previously stated, if you don't get told where it is or that it's close, it's not a problem. It may actually help as we now have three permanent colonists who need to be indoctina-I mean, converted to the ways of the Tranch, yes...

We finish up researching Microelectronics. To get some of the cool stuff next, we need a high tech research bench, which needs more space than I currently have. We will resolve this momentarily. Until then, next research is Sterile Materials so we can make a hospital room out of Penny's old room.

While we're doing stuff, I'd like to note that one of Dumbo's spells is "Transmutate". It turns things into other things. At higher levels, it can change equipment, possibly repair it, and remove the "Tainted" tag. Meaning that now, raiders are a bunch of clothing delivering loot pinatas.

We decide to hunt a Wyrm, and dear god did it take effort. Three people (Kevin, Drurk, and our new Salarian recruit Benart) all shooting it with pistols, two magic missile bursts from Drurk, and it still lasted long enough to beat the shit out of Kevin for a good while. And we only got 90 Wyrm meat (that's 9 simple meals or 15 Nutrient meals) out of it!

20220822124840_1.jpg

And here we go. Dumbo decides to have a tantrum and break things in his room. This mostly means he stabs the walls with his shiv. That doesn't mean he's ineffective, he breaks 4 walls during his rampage.

And good god, he ends up with double Catharsis, a massive +70 mood buff. Once he gets some food and sleep, he'll be fine.

And NEW QUEST! I think this run might go longer now that I'm letting you all vote on these. It's another monument quest, this time requiring roughly 385 material. 305 of that can be anything, 80 must be of a stone type (so, seems mostly walls plus floor).

20220822125412_1.jpg

Our options are once again, more Honor (giving it to Kevin could shoot him straight to Acolyte once the Prisoner is returned), an Eltex Shirt (good quality), and more Goodwill. Please vote on what to take, and I'll see if I can do an update in the middle of the week or something. Wednesday/Thursday maybe?
