It's not even an attempt to relaunch it. Susan Arendt already revealed their powerlevel on the forums probably thinking forum plebs are too exceptional to add two and two. They're going to buy it, liquidate Escapist-owned IP's, and shut it down after a token effort having claimed the final victory in the autistic turd-eating contest by having gone back for a seconds.

I wouldn't be surprised. Although, none of the IP is worth a damn thing... if it was Defy Media would have liquidated it before selling the website itself.

I mean, let's get real. It wouldn't make money. Running a web site that turns a profit requires a lot of resources, and there's just no real point in attempting that with a gaming site in this current financial environment. So it would be something done out of love for the creators and the community, nothing more.
To that end, what I'd want to do first is return all the brands to their creators. LRR would own Unskippable again, Bob would own The Big Picture, and so forth.
Then we clean the FUCK out of this place. Scorched earth, motherfuckers. I honestly don't understand why you're not already doing that. If this is YOUR site now, then make the community you WANT.

They're going into it as a vanity project knowing the site won't turn a profit, but they couldn't pony up the cash to buy it let alone invest enough to get it in the black. So they partnered with Destructoid, a competing site run by a minicow with a proven track record of behaving like every other male feminist with a teeny-tiny sniff of influence. The first priority is to get rid of the one advantage the site could bank on to generate revenue, guaranteed content exclusivity through IP ownership, and their second priority is to get rid of the few people that still come to the site and any reason for them to come back.

Since they're playing with OPM they have no real fiscal incentive to turn the site into a success, but they have every reason -- favors, cred, industry connections, competitor elimination -- to run it into the ground. The whole thing reeks of corporate raid.

I suspect Bob because the Escapist is fucked regardless of what they do so all they're really doing is ensuring people will pro actively hate them as opposed to dying of apathy.
