So it's clear that Bob has no idea what made Star Wars so popular. It's true there were some avant garde aspects to it (Many of the people/story ideas that were slated to be in Jodorosky's cancelled "Dune" project wound up in the production of the first Star Wars film,) but the film was popular mainly because it was a big screen spectacle with groundbreaking special effects and a heroic callback to earlier media. People living in the Watergate era of government corruption filled with moral grayness really resonated with a simple story of a simple hero and a rag tag band of rebels fighting against a clearly defined evil. You'd think Bob would have picked up on this, with him having a black/white moral view of the universe himself. (I guess it's because the main two heroes of the original Star Wars movie were cishet white males and any story that features cishet white males doing heroic things is an agent of feminist/minority oppression.)

The briefest look at media of the time would demonstrate everything you just said -- plus it wasn't just the dismal reality of the time; it was the serious dramas and gritty adult fare that had come to dominate movies. By '77 audiences were sick of it (you could argue that Jaws and Rocky were such huge hits for the same reasons). Time magazine famously ran an issue on Star Wars called "The Return of Entertainment!" I'm no entertainment industry expert, nor am I fluently conversant in what things were like in the 70s, but I've read enough to know this. Again, it's extremely basic information that Bob is apparently ignorant of.

I decided to check on Blob again after going to youtube and seeing the escapist channel was uploading new Bob stuff. Aparently he got his old job back. Check his patreon (he was just below $3k last I saw) and he is over $4k. WTF? I guess Bob really does have a cult niche audience. The SJW crowd he was begging to join but never invited him to their secret meetings (Anita, Zoe, etc.) never backed him in any form. I can see why Escapist re-hired. They are probably paying a fraction what they paid before and he probably has very real close friends who just wanted him to stop being a lolcow so they wouldn't have to axe him. He's not bad as an obscure nerd culture channel when he stays on point, but he had to inject his weird fucked politics in everything.

It's important not to fall into the strict black and white nonsense Bob expounds and believes. New York City voted so heavily for Hillary that it actually represents most if not all of the popular vote victory so many of them won't shut up about (demonstrating that the EC actually served its intended function in preventing a regional presidency) ... except for Staten Island, which Trump won comfortably. Texas has the blue island of Austin as its capital. California has farmers in the north who know exactly how horrible the illegal immigration situation is (as Victor Davis Hanson once said, you don't understand the border problem until you've found dead illegals on your property), and while I don't think Trump would have carried the state, he certainly would have gotten more of its vote if its insane primary rules hadn't led to two Democrats running for its Senate seats.

Nothing is as simple as Bob pretends it to be; we shouldn't make the same error.

The most stinging rebuke possible for Bob's "Red vs. Blue States" sperging is that his very own beloved home of Massachusetts is not only were Mitt Romney started his political career as it's Governor and 1994 GOP Senate Nominee it's current Governor is also a Republican.
Granted Charlie Baker is a New England Republican but the point still stands that the Governor of Massachusetts is a Republican and by all indications headed to a landslide reelection in a couple weeks time.
It also worth pointing out that Donald Trump is 100% a product of New York State and New York City.
