The Wedding photo of Bob alone says it all Bob's neither a Republican or Democrat. He's a social outcast of his own making by his unlikable personality. Bob IMO leans to SJW politics because they're professional victims and he sees himself as a victim of a older society that doesn't get him what he doesn't realize is we get him it's just he's an asshole and we want no part of him.
He easily fits the white guy liberals like t0 bash category.

Bob acts like James Gunn invented the Guardians of the Galaxy, so having characters in Captain Marvel means it's a prequel to his movies instead of them, ya know, being already established comic characters that are all being adapted to film anyways.
I imagine he hasn’t heard of the comics, as well as Ryan Coolgier coming up with Black Panther.

"Looks very Hard Sci-Fi".

I really hate when people like Bob use the term Hard Sci-Fi. Throwing around the term when the hardest speculative fiction you actually consume is Star Trek 2009 is the movie equivalent of sharing a "I Fucking Love Science" meme.

A hard SF reader might be familiar with Gregory Benford and his law of controversy: Passion is inversely proportional to the amount of information available.

Vague trailer just dropped? OMG VERY COOL

Uhh yeah.. isn't "hard sci-fi" things that are less science-fiction and more science-prediction? Like Sunshine and to a lesser extent, Alien?
Exactly. Hard science fiction can have action, but it's typically not the overarching focus.

In any case American live action Magical Girl Anime or whatever the fuck Captain Marvel is, it is emphatically NOT hard sci fi nor is anything in a universe where radioactive spiders give you powers.

The only hard sci-fi comic I can think of off the top of my head (I'm sure there are others, but I'm not much of a comics geek) is some stories from Transmetropolitan. And even then it was more about social issues and media issues than hard science, but it did have its moments.

Magic space lady does not fucking qualify.

EDIT: After actually watching the trailer (mea culpa), I can safely say Bob hasn't the faintest idea what "hard science fiction" actually is. Memo: if the trailer starts with a human being falling from orbit, smashing into a building, and surviving unharmed, it probably isn't "hard" sf. Also: energy blasts from bare hands, probably not hard sf.

Also ... oh fuck why am I bothering. Bob is a loudmouthed imbecile whose only expertise is how to twist his fat fingers into a Pringles can, and I'm not even sure about that.

Yeah Hard SF is overwhelmingly a subgenre of literature, with a few movies and games that qualify. Shit, there are probably as many hard sci fi prog rock songs as there are comics.

But remember, we're talking Bob "Moon Wheat" Chipman, here. The scientific advance he benefits most from is microwavable tendies.

Hard sf is so rare precisely because it really is hard, as in difficult. Mass Effect, for instance, started off with a surprisingly large amount of really hard stuff in the background (the codex entries on space combat are fascinating) and it slowly veered ever more surely into the realm of space opera because that's a much easier genre to wring drama and excitement from. Not necessarily a bad thing, but to put Captain Marvel in the same realm as Arthur C. Clarke is so stupid it's ... well, par for the course for Bob.

'obsolete white people' isn't Bob a borderline middle aged fat diabetic kind of obsolete as well? Its hard to believe he's about the same age as Chris Evans. That's probably the biggest thing to consider Bob is about as old as some of the stars in his beloved MCU yet he looks like he's from a completely different species.

You may not like it but this is what the superior future looks like:

What a maroon. Does he not know how the term works? That 'hard' sci-fi cleaves closer and closer to real world science, the harder it gets?

Jesus the Jumpin' Jew.

I had a post buried in this thread where I brought that up. IMO I kinda blame how Clarke's Third Law gets brought up in soft sci-fi and science-fantasy in some attempt to come off as smarter then it is, the MCU being a great example of doing this with their reimagining of the Thor cast as space aliens instead of magical constructs born of human thoughts.

They ignore that Clarke wrote hard sci-fi and only came up with that as an excuse for his more outlandish ideas. You get people like Bob who assume if "cave men can find a phone and think it's sorcery" then "You get wizard powers if you dump enough into your science stat".

Of course, science illiteracy is the main culprit but I do believe misuse of Clarke's Third Law does get in the heads of pop culture junkies like Bob too.

For a comparison, the hardest scifi movies of late are Interstellar and the Martian. I mean Interstellar advanced ACTUAL fucking science when the consultants involved were able to use hollywood money and computers to model things they never had been able too.

And both had Jessica Chastain as leading female scientist so CapMar can't even try to claim that.

I mean, if you want an even larger lead for conservative voices by packing a bunch of Catholic, socially conservative taco niggers into the center of the country, automagically giving them citizenship for existing in the US allowing them to vote, increasing those states' census populations ergo increasing their overall Congressional Representatives and decreasing the coastal states' by ratio?

...

You know what? Keep going! Pave the road to the complete downfall of the American Democratic party! Fuck it! I don't care about brown people in my backyard in Minnowisconsas because I'm not a fucking racist piece of shit.

I LOVE that he believes the "no one that matters" will ever cause him to suffer the consequences of his tweets while he has "Rehire James Gunn" in his Twitter handle. Brilliant!
