Insulting a veteran who was injured in the line of duty should be as fire-able an offense as saying the "N" word online. Anyone who is willing to put their lives on the line to ensure the safety of American citizens has my respect, no matter what party they vote for. Bob is a globulous coward who would never risk himself to defend anything (except for his right to butt into the front of the McNuggets Line at McDonalds.)

I'll know we've finally returned to a sane and decent world the day that Bob is shamed out of polite society for his opinions.

What I never understood about critics like bob is this obsession they seem to have with taking shots at the general audience. I don't get why Bob holds such contempt for people who want a good video game sequel to something they enjoyed. If he was defending the company because he liked the concept, that would be one thing, but the fact of the matter is that he's doing this specifically so he can act like gamers are contemptible because they they don't like an announcement to a video game series they enjoy. Of course, Bob Chipman #RehireJamesGunn would never get upset over a company doing something that pissed off a lot of its fans or doing something to only please a small portion of its fans (Snyder Cut, Spiderman and Venom, etc.)

I don't completely agree with the entirety of that JP screed, but I'd love for Moviebob, or that bitch for that matter, to go ahead and explain what was so bad about it. Here, I'll even do my own critique of it just to prove how easy it is: I don't think the argument "only systems evolved in the West have led to prosperity" is a great one when you take a look at the way culture has shifted over the past 500 years alone. implying the west was some place of enlightenment is just silly, we borrowed from other cultures, and they borrowed in turn from us. There, that was my critique of it. Its not hard, but of course its too much effort for our illustrious film roberto to put forth.

But you see, Bob has the right to get mad about things because he's way morally superior than those Goobergrapers who booed Blizzard over the Diablo news.

(I doubt Bob even gives a nanosecond of thought to Diablo, he's just angry at the people who got mad over it and is using this as a chance to take a swipe at them.) Also, the staff of Blizzard was acting pretty out-of-touch and arrogant about the whole thing, and if it's one thing Bob identifies with, it's people who are out of touch and arrogant.

I know me and other already mentioned something like this before, but Bob's Diablo rants blow me away. The ignorance and a lack of self awareness that's impressive even by Bob standards. He learned nothing from his Mass Effect 3 and Other M spergouts, and he himself has raged about games like Mario + Rabbids, Metriod Prime, Call of Duty, Madden, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, RDR2, and other games he could easily "not play". But it's okay when he does it.

Honestly, I'd be fine with that. Having experience with a wide body of work is basically all you need to be knowledgeable in a given medium. The problem is that I don't think Bob is as well read as he likes to believe. This is the guy who claims to be an authority on games but literally can't tell Skyrim from Dark Souls, and thinks Call of Duty 4 is about getting revenge for 911.

I don't get it either. With game journalists it made some sense. They wanted to prop games up as high culture, get paid, and sell their friends games, something they couldn't do when "gamers" cared about "fun" and "quality" and other "low brow" things. But Bob is only tangentially related to that clique. He's not getting blow jobs from rainbow haired land whales to shill their latest walking simulator. He's not getting $400 collectors editions, ad deals, and expenses paid trips to LA for defending Activision.

This is complete speculation, but the best reason I can think of is that Bob hates gamers for moving away from Megaman, Mario, and 16 bit side scrollers. He needs an excuse for why his rage is justified.

I'm undecided, myself. I think the quality of criticism is limited by your knowledge of the medium, and perhaps of equal importance is knowing how formal knowledge expresses itself. An amateur critic might be able to say that the editing "looks confusing", but you need some level of training to say "The shots cross the action axis."

But on the other hand, you're right in that an intelligent amateur with a wide exposure to a medium can make substantial criticisms.

Peterson's an odd duck (or frog, as the case may be): A FUCKING LEAF with fairly milquetoast views, but he seems to have an almost Trumpian super-power for driving Bob and his ilk up the wall. I know that this is a cliche analysis, but I'm throwing it out here anyway: I think a lot of it is jealousy. Peterson is a pop culture critic (of sorts) who has a bestselling book, gets on TV, charges fanbois ten bux to take a personality test, and has generally "made it" in the sphere of being a public intellectual. His kind of prominence is the sort of thing Bob would kill to have, and it must eat him up inside to watch all this attention get paid instead to a verbose snow wop with "wrong" opinions.

I think it takes slightly more than "having consumed a lot" to be a passable critic. At the very least you also have to talk with other people who consumed a lot, in order that you learn to fashion your idea in such a way as to be convincing, appreciate other people's ideas, and have a chance to re-examine your opinion. Things like theories and histories are good to know but are only essential for long-standing and serious art forms (which films, but not capeshit, qualify).

I'm pretty sure that's Bob talking at the start. I couldn't listen more than a minute, but I just had to laugh as Bob goes ON and ON about the balls Ryan Coogler had to have to go up to Sly and offer to make another Rocky movie.

Like... seriously? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm under no illusion that Sly could probably put a dent in me at his age and I'm an industrial made factory robot. But is it really THAT dangerous to go up and tell a dude, "hey, I want to pay you"? Especially since by all accounts I've heard, Sly is a genuinely nice guy.
