Bob's a fool if he really thinks this worries the gaming companies. I'm a fan of physical media but barring an early death I will live to see it go away Print, Films, Music, and Games will all go digital they're almost there and while it will be a Sad day IMO no industry of the ones mentioned has embraced it more than gaming.

How did it tighten up it’s asshole?

He still thinks it's the '80s, where physical sales are the only sales. I also wouldn't put it past him to be stupid enough to think that game studios get a cut of second-hand sales of their hardware/software.

In reality, devs are probably happy that we're moving away from physical releases: the big developement studios are happy because physical distribution is more expensive than digital stores taking a cut (and possibly they even have their own stores in the cases of the biggest studios) and the smaller/indie devs will be happy because physical distribution would have been too expensive for them or not achievable at all.

Digital distribution I'm not totally against or anything (heck my morals are digitally distributed) but as with all things there is a cost.

Anybody remember that time Amazon took away 1984 from its customers for a time?

Or just imagine SW was distributed digitally from the start. Then one day Lucas went in and sent out a dlc that converted all your copies to the special edition...

Hah! Just kidding meatbags. Skynet won't use this to gaslight you all or anything...

trust us...

I love how you can see the green from his painted wall radiating off of the edge of him.

Part of the problem is his lighting rig, which looks like 5 lightbulbs clumped together, mounted right in front of him. That is throwing a lot of light on the green screen behind him that in turn acts as accidental fill. This could be easily solved by using more directional lights in a 2 or 3 point arrangement and moving a few feet in front of the green screen. Then again who has time for reading or watching youtube videos about lighting when you've gotta sperg on twitter.

It has to due with the retails going under, just look at Toys R' Us last year.

You'd think he would be all for it since superior 21st century jobs (that MATTER) aren't dead end retail gigs. Plus think of all the hydroponic urban farms that could be made using strip mall parking lots.

Fun fact: Failure of physical retail point of sale for games as opposed to downloads creates a smaller carbon footprint. I know nerds like to have physical copies and the issue of ownership comes up with digital media, but there are definitely upsides to losing that middleman.

Get out of the way of the superior future or get run over by it, Blob!

Bob is not entirely wrong about GameStop. But I doubt Bob knows or understands why. The loss of Gamestop will be a huge loss to the game industry. Largely because it removes the on ramp for normies. GameStop is the only real connection to gaming that exists out in the public real world. That everyone knows of in the malls or shopping centers. Without it, Gaming becomes a relatively niche and largely unseen hobby. This is not good for the industry. But they dug this grave years ago when GameStop absorbed all competitors. Without GameStop there is virtually no marketing being directed at attracting new gamers. Without retail shelf presence you lose easy entrance points and hardware impulse buys. That is never good for an industry.

You can buy video games at Wal-Mart or Target like any other consumer product. It's a small enough family of products, and one that is constantly renewing, that you don't really need a specialized store when you can commit two aisles to it in a big box retailer.

The Video Game sections at the big box retailers are shrinking quickly. They see the shift to digital, and much like music CD’s will be the first out of the shrinking market space. Which leaves the only place to get Video game hardware as mainly online merchants. Not something you find via casual browsing, or visible in your daily life unless you seek it out.

Possibly, but keep in mind that until around 1999 when my town got a Funcoland and Electronics Boutique, dedicated video game stores were almost unheard of for me. I mostly bought at big box stores like the above or at Best Buy.

I feel like video games are mainstream enough at this point that the normie onramp isn't a point of sale but cultural osmosis. Everyone has heard of COD or Halo by this point.

Although unfortunately for Bob the only Nintendo franchise that has much cachet among Gen Z is Pokemon.

Speculation on my part, but wouldn't a more likely on ramp be the mobile markets? 77% of Americans have a smartphone, at least according to Pew.

Here's a worse thought, if somebody hacks your Amazon account and uses it to buy a few macbooks with a stolen credit card, Amazon can and may permaban your account, and all your digital shit will be gone forever. And since you can't create a second account, if you want or need something that is only available as a digital download on Amazon, you're just fucked forever.

Blob's just mad about GameStop closing because then where will he go that has cute ladies who are required to be nice to him and listen to his 45 minute rants about how SMB3 is the greatest video game ever?
I can’t imagine the frustration they would have when it asks for a NES, which has been out of stock since the 90s.

He claims he walks homosexuals home occasionally and walks around Revere Beach once a year.

I'm trying to wrap my head around what he means by this. I'm imagining him going up to a gay couple and acting like a boy scout trying to help an old lady to cross the street. Considering the way Bob fetishises minority groups I wouldn't put it past him.

"Getting an update here...
"Turns out it wasn't an attack, but a massage that was given.
"Also the actress was actually director Bryan Singer.
"And the other person wasn't a Trump supporter but a 12 year old boy--"

"That's enough from our news desk, now let's go to a local story about a grandmother and her adorable puppies."
