I think it's a mix of the two; I don't know that anyone's ever unironically called themselves a shill, but "coastal elitist" and "technocrat dandy" are (at least in his mind) perfectly accurate descriptions of himself. I think he's trying for the "clown-nose-on, clown-nose-off" thing so he always has an out if he gets called on his impressively bigoted classism.

I still can't get over the implication he continually makes that blue collar America is exclusively white. He's against old industries and farmers and miners and whatever the fuck else, and in his mind it's ONLY old white people who did that. Which means in his world, black people are only welfare recipients. There's no such thing as a black veteran who worked in a factory town.

Hey Bob you know what else is obsolete? Mexicans selling oranges on the side of the road and doing farm labor by pricing themselves beneath machines. Bob is most likely believing the movies production budget breaking even made it not a dud. It cost 144 million to make and got back 229 million. However this didn't include marketing and other costs and the studio stated they needed to make something like double that to justify making a sequel.
