The "clump of cells" argument always bugs me and I'm fine with abortions. The issue is that's splitting hairs as you're still killing living tissue that otherwise would continue to develop. You might pull "but tumors and cancer are living tissue too" as a gotcha but I'd agree with you, that doesn't make it morally wrong. Sometimes abortion is needed but it should sounds scary. A "clump of cells" is something you tell yourself so your mind doesn't drown itself in an endless sea of "What If...." and if you can't accept your actions then parenthood probably isn't a good choice anyways.

Plus for a "Thinker", you'd think Bob would realize saying his stance is "opposite" to pro-lifers is nonsense. He believes abortions are okay BECAUSE they're "a clump of cells" and "not an actual person". The entire thing is built on his arbitrary classification of "life" rather than anything about the situation of the pregnant woman.

This is something that works with pets, here at least, pets don't get killed, they're destroyed.
They're classed as not having the sentience to be killed like humans do. Even though they inherit things from the parents and later on have moods to kick.

Families are pretty complicated, most of Bobs toxic behavoir seems to come from the failure to coarse correct during his teen years, such as deliberatly sabotaging his therapy. It's hard to say how normal his family are, at worst they failed to correct his anger issues but the therapy indicates their was an attempt.

I've known two people who have seen a shrink, both of them speak well of it and seem better for it. Even if the actual 'science' of it is pretty shackey, their's certainly something to be said for sitting on a couch talking through your emotional problems and learning some coping mechanisms.

You do however have to want to get better which is where Bob Falls flat.

You get out of it what you put in. If you're willing to do the work and listen to what the therapist says and actively strive to make yourself better you can achieve amazing results. If you act as Bob supposedly did and think you're smarter than the therapist and purposely sabotage all attempts to help and wind up shitting your life away.
