Sadly Bob was raised in the era of early 8 bit console gaming. At the time most PC games were either adventure games like King's Quest (not sure if it was around at his age) or text adventures. I admit, when I was a kid I was not the think outside the box kind of player, if I saw a monster my reaction was either jump or shoot. I have fond memories playing Earthworm Jim but never understood what I was doing.

Even if Bob grew up on games like Elder Scrolls or Monkey Island, chances are he would still be the same ass that he is today.

The difference is that Mario is a lighthearted adventure.

Bob is just an assholeish stick in the mud with a stunted mindset of reality.

I'm around Bob's age (actually almost a year older), and I can confirm he had text and adventure games as a kid on PC. In fact, they were the dominant games back them, before the FPS revolution.

There were also other awesome games outside of the family-friendly Sierra games, like Commander Keen, JAzz Jackrabbit, Populous, SimCity, Prince of PErsia, The ORegon Trail, Archon, Wizardry, Lode Runner, Flight Simulator, the Ultima series, Civilization, Command & Conquer, the Cosmo series, the Dizzy series, Dune 2, Duke Nukem (pre FPS platformer), anything from SSI, Lemmings, Goblins, the Microprose library, the HORDE of NFL simulators (madden used to have great competition), fucking Rayman, Starlord, Warcraft, Worms, etc...

Seriously, Bob lives in a fucking closet under a boulder, behind a mountain.

A lot of what he's calling "Trump Country" was "Obama Country" in 2008 and 2012. If you don't win those states, you don't win, period. It's simple math.

I think he has brain damage from diabetes and from fat replacing brain tissue.

Thanks for the confirmation. Wanted to make sure as I'm not sure what Bob's date of birth is (not that I care).

I also remember that the NES had plenty of text filled games itself (the original Final Fantasy comes in mind). The thing that I wanted to say (but didn't) is that Bob mostly played Nintendo games such as Zelda and Mario, games meant for fun and not thought.

You forgot to include the fact Bob lives on another planet.

Bob's not good at math. He himself admitted it in a Big Picture episode of his (the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon series). Problem is, Bob isn't good in a lot more things. This includes: Thinking, Rationality, Respect and much much more.

Oh there is plenty ole time stupidity Bob. His Mass Effect 3 video is a good example of him not knowing shit.

To be super fair back before he went full nuts, Bob was Meh to okay kind of critic. This was during the AVGN style reviews, thus Bob was a more moderate critic that didn't resort to litanies of profanity. Yeah he wasn't good back then, but compared to the abyssal levels today he was good.

It's because vidya is where he's at his cringiest. The medium of film doesn't have a lot of Nintendo characters for him to sperg over, there's no #MoviegoerGate (yet), and he echoes popular opinion a lot more there rather than writing off entire platforms.

It's interesting watching him totally fail to alter strategy in the face of defeat and failure. Even the dumbest animals will retreat from a soarce of pain but bob continues to smash his face against a well. Bob is litterally dumber my cat who regulary alters tact in her attempts to scratch the chair.
