He would have slightly more credibility if he were off camera. On camera, you see the disgusting sludge that he is and anything he says feels so much less valid. Notice how professional critics usually are well kept and dressed nicely? Even post cancer Ebert looked relatively nice given his disabilities. This is because your looks are a huge part of your social credibility, that’s how all creatures are. His voice is still nasty, but at least you wouldn’t know what he looked like, giving him some aura of mystery

Bob is a massive narcissist so he's the kind of person who assumes he'd be king in a postapocalyptic scenario. This is the guy who thinks he's a progressive ubermensch despite being a literal basement dweller whose job is making shitty youtube reviews of movies intended for 15 year olds. He's incapable of imagining a world where he's not at the top of the social hierarchy regardless of how low on the totem pole he actually is.

There's always some "FUCK YOU DAD" wish fulfillment in post apocalyptic movies where you think "Man, it would be cool to live without rules!" but Bob's one of the only people to actually take that kind of thing seriously once the movie ends.
