Yeah Im pretty ignorant especially concerning world politics but even I'm like, "What the fuck?" China's pretty shady and has plenty of human rights violations, Russia may hate gay people but they're closer in line with western social beliefs and policies than China is. Of the fallen cold war countries, Russia is probably the easiest to get along with in the long run because they have similar goals with the western countries, but different viewpoints as to how to get there. And it seems like a lot of animosity is the whole, "we've always been at war with Eurasia" type of Kremlin fearmongering.
