First of all, he's not a "serious" gamer to begin with (as in a competitive gamer or esports player), he's just a "geek" or "fan" who mainly plays and reviews games which are baby-easy and plots intended for child's reading and comprehension level.

Second, he recommends people be more "well-rounded" by wasting their time on "current events", as in reading tabloid partisan political blogs which are marketed to the 6th grade reading level and are primarily just about selling "sensationalist" drama and rhetoric, not about "informing people" to begin with.

He could bother recommending to so something as mentally stimulating as read an actual book or anything requiring more attention span than a Twitter post, or else he'd have to eat his own words. (Even "movies/TV" as a whole genre will never be as "deep" as actual literature since they're intended to be 1-2 hours long at most; it's like priding yourself on being a "culinary critic" who doesn't review anything but fast food, and probably has never eaten or cooked anything which wasn't pre-packaged or processed to begin with).

So Velma being a teen in a hypersexual age, - there's a high probability that she's having sex with dudes as well as girls. There are women that absolutely can't bring themselves to have sex with men, but Velma doesn't strike me as that type. What disturbs me is that hypersexuality is being pushed onto young teens in the guise of a civil rights or Social Justice movement, and it's going to result in a lot of confused children making immature choices about sex. It's also going to result in a lot of kids being ripe for grooming by older fans who want to convince young teens that it's okay to "explore their sexuality" at an age when they may not be old enough to drive.
