Prior to the start of this month, I was still making plans to go to Dragon Con. I was hoping that things would be relatively normal and I could enjoy going to a convention that I haven't been able to for a couple years now. Then they announced all their ridiculous restrictions that more or less guarantee an unfun clusterfuck, coupled with Atlanta reinstating an indoor mask mandate (in the middle of summer, yeah that'll be great). The fact that they're now also demanding ze papers proof of a coof shot or a negative test has cemented in my mind that I made the right decision. The convention is gonna be a shitshow, a bunch of people are still gonna catch the coof anyway, and all these extra precautions will end up amounting to nothing more than ineffectual theater.

That perpetual shitstain hack fraud John Scalzi is applauding this decision along with Bobby is icing on the cake. As if I needed another reason not to go. (Bob, of course, doesn't go outside.)

There's some self awareness there because of reality, but he always blames it on other factors when he can. He also assumes that while he may not be as smart as he thought he was, that just means everyone else is a knuckle dragging retard.

You see this with politicians claiming that solar power will cause the sun to die out and shit like that. They don't actually believe that nonsense, they just assume their voters are dumb enough to buy it. So when Bob lies and says he can bench 300lbs, he assumes twitter is so dumb that they'd never think to contradict him. If he's too lazy to write a second draft, and never plans out his stories, he assumes that all his fellow writers out there must do the same thing.

It's also the reason he thinks people are evil bastards. He delights in hearing his 'enemies' suffer and he, in his mind, is a good person. Bob used to be a little less self deluding and a bit more open about his own shortcomings in the early days. I recall an event he spoke at once (I believe it was an escapist panel if memory serves.) and he brought up how he got started making online videos and said something like, "Hey, I'm an opinionated jackass with an internet connection! Why don't I do it too?" This always struck me as kind of an unusual statement because it seems like something he'd never say today. In another of his early game overthinker videos he openly admited to being a feminist so he could touch boobs again, though I am somewhat skeptical of the "again" in that sentence as it would imply Bob touched boobs at all.
